Headhunter Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 So this morning, my wife looks out the back window and see's this critter wandering around the pool. Anyone know what one might call this? An hour latter, there were three deer in the back as well. HH 10000000_473375540571499_1150515636682663768_n.mp4 1
LostAnotherOne Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 It’s definitely picked up on a scent
Fisherman Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 A well fed coyote mix maybe with a ratty tail. 1
Headhunter Posted April 27, 2021 Author Report Posted April 27, 2021 We had a vet visit for our dog this afternoon and showed the video to the vet. He thought it was a Coywolf. Arriving at home after the visit to the vet, the "Coywolf" was back, resting in the ravine in our backyard. I whistled to it, it just look at me, gave itself a scratch and wandered away. In thing I left out.... when it was here this morning around 9:00am and left, a group of deer showed up about an hour later. Three or four of them. My dog has been sniffing up a storm in the backyard and no, we won't let him out there without us having checked it out beforehand. Here's the "sniffy one" resting up for his next encounter. 4
ketchenany Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 The neighbour across the street from me had a guy trim his bushes, under it was a den and two came running out! That explained rabbit heads and fur all over the place! keep dog inside for sure.
Headhunter Posted April 27, 2021 Author Report Posted April 27, 2021 I like George, but we have decided to call him Boris. Kinda gives off that vibe. HH
Hack_Fisherman Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 What’s with the tail on that thing?
Northerner1212 Posted April 27, 2021 Report Posted April 27, 2021 Coyote with mange watch your pets they can pick up mange too from that yote being around
akaShag Posted April 28, 2021 Report Posted April 28, 2021 Wolf, or wolf/coyote cross, with an injured tail. I don't think it has mange, the coat looks healthy enough for an end-of-winter coat. It looks to be a fair size, like 60 pounds plus? 1
akaShag Posted April 28, 2021 Report Posted April 28, 2021 and it looks like it may be pregnant............ 1
Headhunter Posted April 28, 2021 Author Report Posted April 28, 2021 Well, it's bigger than my 85 lb Lab! And yes, our vet who saw the video also thought it looked pregnant! I really don't need a bunch of Coywolfs running around in my backyard! Hopefully, it will choose a better place to make it's den. No sign of it so far today, but that's not so unusual. HH

This means women, children, and people who just plain don't want to see vulgarity who are on the site have to read them. We are a family site and wish to encourage people to fish, learn and support the great outdoors that Canada has to offer. Art
Snidley Posted April 28, 2021 Report Posted April 28, 2021 Don't let Doug Ford see it or he will want to move in to your backyard to be closer to it.
porkpie Posted April 28, 2021 Report Posted April 28, 2021 (edited) Garden variety coyote with mange tail or some other injury. It’s not a “coywolf”. Edited April 28, 2021 by porkpie

Snidley Posted April 28, 2021 Report Posted April 28, 2021 I saw an episode of Nature of Things concerning Coywolfs and to me telling them apart is VERY difficult. That thing could be either without a weigh scale and maybe even a blood test. Don't let it near your dog though. 1
