lew Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 For 36 years I worked either Christmas or New Years but fortunately those days are far behind me now. How bout you guys, anyone stuck working Christmas this year ??
Terry Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 my wife is a nurse, so she has to work one or the other but she got screwed this year she was told she had xmas off but had to work newyears when the schedule came out she has to work till 6am on xmas morning..they say it counts as the 24th not the 25th....so this year she works both
Woodsman Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I'm working New Years. Going in at 11 am to get machines ready to start-up for the midnight shift which starts at 11 pm. Edited December 23, 2013 by Woodsman
misfish Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 That means when she gets home Terry, she,ll need to sleep. You might as well join me for a few hours fishing.LOL
Whopper Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Not a chance Lew! Did it twice years ago when I first got started and didn't like it one bit
lew Posted December 23, 2013 Author Report Posted December 23, 2013 didn't like it one bit I didn't like it either Phil, but the boss said he didn't care what I thought
Whopper Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I can't quote ya here at work Lew but that is the same thing my boss at the time told me
fishing n autograph Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Yup I work all of Xmas and New Year's Day. First time in seven years. My kids are sad but I made them believe that it's daddy's turn to protect Santa Claus so that's why I have to work
porkpie Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) new years eve/day for me. Edited December 23, 2013 by porkpie
Ralph Field Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I don't work ! Retirement is great this time of year. Edited December 23, 2013 by staffman
Handlebarz Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Not here I have not worked either in 17-20 years. In my teen years I would work Christmas if needed so others with little kids could have it off. I have not and will not miss a Christmas with my kids New Years well it does not matter near as much it's just another day. We always do stuff as a family but I would rather miss it then Christmas
Rustic-Fisher Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Off this year, usually the way it works at our place is the guys with older kids or no kids cover for guys with a young family on Christmas . When I first started I covered every Christmas I could. Nice to see 12 years later guys pay it back :-)
Joeytier Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 25 - 29 for sure, potentially new years eve/day. No kids, and it sure is hard to turn down triple time.
pics Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Scheduled off on Christmas but working New Years day..
mike rousseau Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 24-25-26 shut down and 31-1 shut down as well.... But we are entering our slow season... Might have OT on the 26th
Raf Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 wife works xmas (long term care) but i off.
4x4bassin Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Working right through the holidays , no shut down at Air Canada . Been there for 25 years so I'm use too the shift work .
DanD Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Haven't had to work Xmas or new years since I left the farm; Dad always had something for us to work on. Been working as a mechanic for the last 37 years; 31 of them in my own garage. We're closed as of noon on the 24th and back in on Monday the 30th. Closed again at noon on the 31st and back in on the 2nd. Taking the Friday (27th) off to let my techs have a 5 day holiday. Hopefully they don't eat and drink to much and come back refreshed; because I'm going to eat and drink way to much. LOL It's good to be the boss; sometimes. Dan.
mercman Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I don't, but my store will be kept open by one of my guys. He will take off in January, so its ok
ch312 Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 W...w...work? What's this work thing you speak of? A few years of working my arse off and being mortgage free has allowed me to work the equivalent of 4 months in the last 2 years while living comfortably and fishing or hunting whenever I'd like. I feel for you guys who are forced to work during the holidays. For those who are suppose to work, I say call in sick for the next two weeks! :D Time with family and friends > working
manitoubass2 Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I got two weeks off but im always on call. Should be good unless it dumps snow. So far so good
grt1 Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I start a 10 day rotation on Christmas day, 5 days of day shift then right into 5 night shifts. Christmas and new years are just ordinary days in the justice system
Rod Caster Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I've taking unofficial holidays starting today... but I'm still on call, so I could be anywhere between tonight and New Years. Hopefully i'll be with familly, as planned. Hard to say no to Triple Time, Joey!!
davey buoy Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) I don't ever remember working those two days .That's just fine with me. .Merry Christmas to all!!! Edited December 23, 2013 by davey buoy
