fish_fishburn Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I have owned my own business for the last 17 years. I sell art and do custom picture framing but am tired of retail and am getting into real estate. I write my final exam this saturday in Ottawa. Making a career change at 48 yrs old is a bit nerve racking but I am really looking forward to it and am really excited about it. Now if I could figure how to get a full nights sleep without waking up thinking about condo's and recreation properties I would be fine.

The JAY Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 (edited) Spent 30-ish years delivering furniture and appliances, now after a major back injury I basically push a broom. Spend my free time fishing, and having my hobbies pay for my fishing; I make custom knives and edge weapons and do a little custom airbrush painting on the side. www.freewebs.com/criticalair/ <--- Some of my stuff. NAW Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 (edited) I design automation. Specifically for the stamping industry. Feeders, transfer system, and tooling. By the looks of it, Spiel knows what I'm talking about.. I don't design coil feeders though.. Fish Farmer.. Nice gig! I worked in a casting factory for 5 years pouring molten iron. To dam hot in the summer time! Good cash though. Edited July 30, 2010 by F-is-H
Nipfisher Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I am a Child Protection Worker with the Children's Aid Society in North Bay. Been doing it for almost 9 years. Basically, I manage anywhere from 22-28 families (depending on caseload) every day, every week, every month, and strive to keep the children safe in "their" homes. Then at the end of every day I go pick my 2 boys (7yrs. and 17 mo.) up at day care and try my best to be a good dad and husband. Some days it is a challenge to give to my own family. I am a member on 3 fishing boards and I find support and fellowship (ladies included) that helps me get by. Fish porn aint too bad niether. I thank you all for all your posts and pictures. CHEERS.
Hooked Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I'm a happily retired Firefighter, who dabbles with Kingpin reels Service and Warranty concerns. I'm kind of like the Maytag guy, that gets very little business. Steelheading is my 2nd greatest love. (Wife is looking) Good answer at the end, haha. I work in the I.T. Department for the Hamilton Hospitals, and have been for 12 years. Can be a pretty cool gig. I have been in the room during brain surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement and countless other operations. The craziest had to of been in Forensics, where a brain freshly taken out of a skull was placed 12" from the mouse I was using, doh! Those Forensics guys are a special breed, let me tell you, haha.
Bob Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I've been a trucker, a miner, a logger and a roofer. I've been a carpenter on housing construction and I've worked highway and bridge construction. Basically, when one type of work started to bore me, I moved to something else. When jobs became harder to find, I bought some equipment and transformed myself into a KJ (karaoke jockey). Now I drink and sing and party with a bunch of good folks and at the end of the party, they pay me. Doesn't get much better. Been doing this now for 15 years and I party 3 nights a week. I'm a local celebrity. Ever hear the song "Kansas City Star"? That's me only in Elliot Lake.

Automation has considerably reduced the employment levels in the steel mills, but thankfully they haven't automated my crane, yet!
lew Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 After a few years in the Navy I joined the Fire Department in 1968 and spent the next 32 years driving fire trucks thru the insane traffic in Toronto. I've been retired for the past 10 years and we now live on a quiet dirt road and I haven't heard a siren in months
Bernie Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I operate an auto repair shop in a small community with many good customers. My house is only a block away and the cottage is only a 20 minute drive. No traffic to contend with. Life is good. My son recently decided to give it a try as an apprentice as well. I'm as happy as can be with that.
