kickingfrog Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 The American Sportfishing Association (ASA) polled their Legacy program members to name the products that had the most impact on the sport in the past 75 years. Here's the results: Gear-Driven Electric trolling motor (Minn Kota, 1934) Original floating Rapala (1936) Spring-loaded Bobber (Nibble Nabber, 1947) Mitchell 300 spinning reel (1949) Creme Plastic worm (1949) Closed face spincast reel (Zero hour bomb company. 1949) Fish Lo-K-Tor (Lowrance Electronics, 1957) Nylon Monofilament line (DuPont/Stren, 1958) High Modulus Graphite rod (Fenwick, 1972) Ugly Stik (Shakespeare, 1976)
Dondorfish Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Hmmm . . . . .. - was sure that OFC would have been in the top 3! Don
chickenhawk Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Here's the results: Gear-Driven Electric trolling motor (Minn Kota, 1934) Original floating Rapala (1936) Spring-loaded Bobber (Nibble Nabber, 1947) Mitchell 300 spinning reel (1949) Creme Plastic worm (1949) Closed face spincast reel (Zero hour bomb company. 1949) Fish Lo-K-Tor (Lowrance Electronics, 1957) Nylon Monofilament line (DuPont/Stren, 1958) High Modulus Graphite rod (Fenwick, 1972) Ugly Stik (Shakespeare, 1976) Cody Colfax ( March 26, 1989) lol Hawk
GbayGiant Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Wow, thats old school, a more recent list would be something like this. The trolling motor, yes for sure. Fish finder, for sure GPS Senko Braided line lindy rigs Gulp Theres a few anyway.
johnnyb Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 what about scent/salt impregnated soft baits?
pike slayer Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 i gotta say rapala xrap 2005 and also fish finders and gps'
Dutch Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Twister tail grubs should be there. I guess that may be covered by the plastic worm as all soft plastic may have come after the initial worm. I would think flashers/sonar/structure finders should be there as well.
Rizzo Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 how about downriggers (this coming from a guy who has never used one) and underwater cameras
Dondorfish Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 how about downriggers (this coming from a guy who has never used one) and underwater cameras Might as well add planer boards and inline boards to the list as well Don
timmeh Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 A few others that come to mind: polarized sunglasses downriggers, for sure neoprene waders
jwl Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 well if someone added riggers,boards,..certainly all the little gizmos that go along with that such as dipsies, jets and so on have certainly helped revolutionize open water trolling
sirfish Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Line counters, lead core, vexilar, The pocket fisherman.
Rich Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) White bucket is #1 IMO Edited October 29, 2008 by Rich
Greencoachdog Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 Well if you'll go back a little further, it's when they conjoined the net (trawler) with the motorized boat... it was the beginning of the end for many species. Throw in todays advanced sonar and the fish don't have a chance. I remember back in grade school in the early 60's they taught us that the oceans resources were so vast that they would never be depleted... little did they know...
LeXXington Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 I would have too add, Meeps spinners. Portable outboard
fishing n autograph Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 how about dynamite???? Inline spinners, spoons..... plastic baits in general...
Beans Posted October 29, 2008 Report Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) I would have put the Mitchel 300 Spinning reel at the top of the list... It sure opened up a whole new world of fishing for me... Edited October 29, 2008 by Beans
fishindevil Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 I think: -digital sonar -downriggers -rapal lures [they have all the world records for world records, for i think 181 fish species world wide !!!]
kemper Posted October 30, 2008 Report Posted October 30, 2008 I think: -digital sonar -downriggers -rapal lures [they have all the world records for world records, for i think 181 fish species world wide !!!] this is true...but I wonder if they are all true. example, if I ever catch a world record I would consider saying that I "caught her on a rapala" . It equals publicity, and in all likelyhood a cheque or two
