  1. This guy was tiny but check out the size of the lure he attacked, just shows how aggressive these guys really are. I just had to take the little guys picture because of his gutsy attitude LOL

  6. And this is why western canada hates us. What do you think kids in Flin Flon did? When I was of trick or treating age, it was standard procedure, your halloween costume could fit your snowsuit underneath it. I recall Halloween 94 or 95 it was legitimately -20 when we were trick or treating. I felt the same way when i first moved to ontario and they would force us to have recess inside any time Ontario issued an "extreme cold weather alert" because daytime temperatures didnt reach over -10. In flin flon you didnt see warmer than -10 from december to April every year lol.

  7. I stood in the rain with my 2 youngest. They didnt seem to mind, and neither did I. Sometimes life throws you lemons. Showing kids how to make the best of it despite the circumstances helps them develop personal strength.

  9. https://www.afs-oc.org/wiper-caught-in-lake-ontario/ I don't know if any of our states stock Wipers or Striped Bass where they could migrate to the Great Lakes.

  14. The bite is at sunrise as well as sunet if you are fishing from shore. I'm not sure what type of rod you are bringing, that will determine what you can throw. Send me a PM and I can help as much as I can. Cheers!

  16. This is about as big as I have caught. I'd like to have a better pic but when I tried to hold it up it jumped out of the canoe ---T'was a big laugh. The story was better than a pic! No steel leader---per MNR there were no pike listed for that lake!πŸ˜ƒ

  17. Back in the 1960s when alewife were taking over the Great Lakes there was a lot of debate in the US about whether to introduce striped bass or coho salmon as a way of dealing with them. Back then stripers were being introduced to freshwater systems all over the southern US, and creating amazing fisheries. But as they started planting them in systems farther north, they began running into problems with winter kills, especially in parts of Kentucky and Tennessee. The thought was that the water was too cold in winter, and that belief was a big factor in the decision to stock salmon into the Great Lakes. Having said that, today New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI all have huge striped bass populations and all of those paces are cold in the winter. I don't know if it being salt water habitat versus fresh water makes a difference, perhaps it does. In New Brunswick the stripers are said to be major predators of Atlantic salmon smolts. That being the case, I doubt MNR or the OFAH would be very happy to see them show up in Lake Ontario.Personally, I'd be happier with more rainbows.

  20. I remember our first Hallowe'en in Manitoba, -10 and 2 feet of snow. Do you think that stopped the kids, nope. Dress right and fill the pillow case. My boys went out twice to make sure they got a full load.

  22. Canada is turning into a nation of marshmallows. Why not just buy 5lbs of candy stay home and plunk the kids in front of the screen

  23. Changing Halloween is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Enough helicopter parenting. If you want candy that badly, grab a poncho and an umbrella, also a flash light and go get your candy.

  26. Stick to Lund, Alumacraft, Princecraft, Crestliner, Smokercraft, those brands are more expensive for a reason. Yamaha 4stroke on the back for bulletproof reliability and you will be happy for many years to come.

  27. We went to Big Gull lake near Northbrook Ont. in Sept. I couldn't believe how small they were. 12 or 14 inches long. A guy was telling us about the one that got away and he said you won't believe this but I bet that pike was 2 feet long. I haven't been there since 2006 and the fishing was getting bad then I thought but man I couldn't believe it. The lake is as beautiful as it ever was but the fishing pressure must be relentless. Big boats every where and blast by you at full tilt 20 yards away. How far north or west do you have to go these days to get into fishing like it was 30 or 40 years ago.
