  2. You might have trouble with a 45" shaft on that boat if the wind kicks up.... usually those shorter shafts are for bass boats which are much lower to the water than deep V hulls.. that is why the guy got rid of it in the first place. You also bought an regular I-pilot motor, not an I-pilot link. So its just a GPS motor and does not have the capability to hook up to a fish finder. You would have to upgrade the head unit if you wanted that. If you do that, then you'll have to buy a Humminbird fish finder that is compatible for Link... check below. https://minnkota.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/support/compatibility/link As for batteries... if you have confined space 2 100ah mini lithium trolling motor batteries might be a good option. There are some budget brands who make them which get decent reviews right now. Getting into higher tech electronic outfits for your boat is not a cheap endeavor. Its a "do it right the first time and try and make it last as long as possible" type of thing. Good luck BM

  3. I take an ol' fella out with me occasionally that uses nothing but mooching reels for rigging. He doesnt own a level wind at all. As you know, there are limitless options for rods, but I have this stuck in my wee brain for now. It has to be resolved. lol I have experienced very little line twist using the run feature on the reels over the last 10 years or so. Maybe because I face into the wind and cast out a long lead?

  4. Had a great year last season with tonnes of great numbers. Hammered walleye from a kayak in a super back lake with my dad. Later flipped the same kayak in the middle of a trout lake and almost died of hypothermia lol, was a fun year!

  5. leafs ever win the cup...southern ontario will most certainly be closed the day of the final game and the following. It might actually get downright weird for a bit.

  6. Honestly, if you can get a full refund, I would head to the upper French. Many lodges to choose from. I've fished the French both above and below the Chaudiere dams for 30 years. Probably well over 75 trips. Fishing has sometimes been tough (it can be on a 3 day trip), but is usually quite good. Walleye, Bass, Pike and Muskie. Lodge possibilties: 1) Crane's Lochaven ( my personal favorite....talk to Sue) 2) Chaudiere 3) Lunge Lodge 4) The Tilted Toque (Used to be Casa Blanca...went there for 15 years). 5) Totem Lodge 6) Breyer Lodge 7) Wolsey Lodge Also, you might take a guide first day. The whole friggin river looks fishy.....not the case. Crane's has a fleet of pontoon boats ( sans covers) that make for very comfortable fishing. Includes a wonderful shore lunch. Tell the guide you'd like to fish relatively close so you can fish the spots in your last two days. Walleye can be awesome. But, take some small topwater (ie Rebel PopR). Bass will nail them ( let them go), but pike love them as well. And....you be surprised at the muskie that will hit that smaller plug. Now I wish I was going. Damn!

  9. I do. We were living on Durie St in the High Park neighborhood of TO. At the final buzzer everyone ran out into the street to celebrate. Car horns blaring everywhere. I remember by Dad walking around and pouring shots of Crown for the neighbours on the front porch. As a 9 year old, I thought I'd see that sight again, at least a few more times in the years ahead. Still waiting. Hope I see it while I'm still upright on this planet. When or if it happens, it'll probably be the only time I'll miss being back in the city...just to experience the collective jubilation. Never mind the World Series, NBA Championships or Grey Cups...Toronto has and (hopefully) always will be a Hockey town. There'd be one hell of a hangover afterwards..

  11. Personally I think that the guy who sized these motors must be the same guy that sizes outboard motors for Legend. I have a Starcraft 168 and it came with a 12V 55lb iPilot and it was under powered for the boat. I since then purchased a new Terrova 80lb 60" 24V

  12. I ended up buying a Terrova off Marketplace. Owner didn't have manuals. I'll download them and watch Youtube as I have no clue how to use it. It'a 45" 80lbs thrust. He bought a longer unit because he had bought a 18' boat. He said I needed to make sure that I had a newer model finder that can link the I-pilot features to be able to take advantage of the full spectrum of options on these Terrovas.. So that I can network it and be able to use Navionics maps. Honestly, it'll be a learning curve. I'm sure between YouTube and a downloaded manual, I'll figure it out. A friend is helping me get it all wired and ready for the season. Need another 12V battery to begin with. So I was thinking of installing a brand new Garmin Strike Vivid 4cv. I picked up up on sale last fall to put in my previous boat. Can these be linked up with the Terrovas? What else should I be considering before I get into this setup? Thanks!

  13. I know, not a rod any self respecting seasoned angler would give a second look but I bought one I believe back in the late 80's maybe early 90's? It was an Omni "Ten Four" Twist. Trophy XL Rigger Rod. It stayed in the boat as a backup and I had to resort to it one day as my Fenwick Stiks got left behind. I fell in love on the first hookup. Rated at 10-25lb and spooled with Ande green 15lb it handled 30lb+ chinooks like butter. I later had the rod redone with straight guides for river run salmon on the Sydenham River. Some of you may remember the heydays. Insane amounts of big Chinooks. I used it for years with 10lb test until it vanished do due to my carelessnes. Of all the rigger rods I have owned over the years, it's my favorite. I have only found 3 since then and recently sent one down the road with a friend. Forward to these days and I cant find any info on Omni rods. I currently fish Chinooks with Fenwick Legacy spinning rods and Okuma baitrunner reels spooled with 8lb floro. If it's crowded, I break out the Ten Fours. I normally stay away from the crowd of boats because I like to fish lighter gear. I prefer a good battle over numbers. So my question is, did they build spinning rods in the 9-10 foot range? I've seen a couple old 7' that were nice soft rods, but too short. Nothing I put my hands on that comes off the rack now days feels right to me. Even my old River Runner, Wild River, Canadian Northern all seem to be better rods than anything I can buy now. There has to some hanging in a shed somewhere, or in the forgotten corner of a basement?

  16. Hopefully Max Domi can turn the tide tonight. I think his style of play is crucial for a series win.

  17. How big of a boat are we talking about? There's no fishing boat out there that couldn't get under the bridge and zigzag around the tree stumps. I've done well for largies and crappie in Maclean but I rarely ever fish it as GPool is right there.

  18. I've had this happen more times than I care to think about. Losing an expensive lure on the first cast. The only difference was my vulgar shouts that I am sure could be heard for miles.

  19. I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ll say it again. The motherboard for those older ones is no longer available. I just confirmed this with aikmans. I’m repairing mine at the moment and brushes and seals etc are available. Motherboard not so much. Not a problem unless that main component goes on you. You should be leary of buying used stuff by now. Unless you have the ability to walk away from deals when something doesn’t seem right, you should probably stick with newer stuff. They have the terrova with the mini remote for sale for $2k plus tax at cabelas. I’d buy that before I spent $1800 on an 11 year old electric.

  20. I drove truck in the GTA up until I retired a few years ago. You had to really be on your toes every second. Cyclists, coming out of no where in seconds, people who had no idea of where they were going (or how to drive). Sitting up high in a truck I saw lots of things going on in cars but the biggest problem was people talking on cell phones. Perhaps we need to put some cops in trucks, I bet I could have handed out a hundred tickets a day easily.
