Do you use a transom saver/outboard motor support?

Hi everyone,

 

 

I'm looking at a new aluminum boat that will have a 4 stroke merc 115hp outboard on it. Just wondering if I should purchase a transom saver/motor support for trailering it? I plan to keep it at a marina for the season, so I likely won't be trailering that often, and when I do, it won't be a long distance. Any thoughts or advice?

Does everyone really think there's more stress placed on the transome while trailering than when running over a 1 foot chop at full throttle?

Its all relative to the frequency of the action. IMO.

$50 bucks or so to protect a brand new boat that cost thousands... makes sense to me. I use one for a smaller boat then yours.

Very handy... percher has been using a similar bracket for years and my e-tec has one built in.

The reason for a transom saver is while trailering the lower unit is raised and puts a lot og torque load on the transom. So yes it does put mor load on the transom.

NO for the last 27 years........but I only have a 50hp outboard...if it was a big boy motor like you're planning on I probably would have one.

I don't but I trailer the boat 3km a year now

i have used them for years !!! never had any problems with them or because of using them,and they do protect your motor from bouncing

I think you're outnumbered 15-4, it's a no brainer, yes for the transom saver. Some people take better care of their kit.

My boat/motor came from the factory with a transom saver already installed and I can't imagine Skeeter/Yamaha would do that if it was a waste of money or not advised.

we have a 20ft aluminum (legend) with the 115 4stroke and that was the first accessory i added.

People freak out when you hold a big Walleye/Pike/Musky up without supporting the weight because it damages the gills........engine's weigh a LITTLE more than that, so imagine what "damage" it can do to a transom if not properly secured....

 

When you're talking thousands of dollars to repair a ripped off transom/engine... better safe than sorry!
