I was going to ask Chris K this on our next long drive to our ice fishing destination but figured I would let everyone chime in.

If you were told you were only allowed to use one artificial fishing bait, in one colour (you can use different sizes) what would it be?

For me, I would have to go with a crayfish coloured crank bait. For years, my top brand would be the Rebel one that swims backwords but as of recent I think I would take the Live target one in dark brown. It means I would have to ice fish with only minnows and a hook from now on, but the number of Bass, Walleye and Pike I land off of that crank over the summer make up for it.

How about you guys? No loopholes, just one artificial bait, one colour, one brand.

1/4 ounce northland shakeyhead jig with a 6" pumpkin/fleck senko.

I can even ice fish with it?

Jig it, swim it, fish it weedless/snagless, and wacky rig it?

Caught tons of fish the past two to three years doing all these, especially pike, walleye and smallies. I can trim the worm, its deadly on crappie as well.

A big ole #950 Grim Reaper spinnerbait, black with orange blades and a 7" orange worm hanging off the side of it.

Never met any self respecting musky that could resist it. :Gonefishing:

White twister on a jig head for me as well, in 3, 4, 6 and 8" sizes. Would catch everything. A jig in general is the most versatile bait possible, so it's an easy choice when you can only pick one.

In various sizes, I could catch just about anything with a basic in-line spinner. I really like the blue and silver.

They are incredibly simple and easy to fish .... you can count them down to any depth, troll them, and even slow roll them on the bottom.
