cheaptackle Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Just east of willow beach, truck with family of four went thru. All out & safe thankfully. Tailgate pointing skywards the only sign of it on the news video. Michael
Rustic-Fisher Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Glad everyone got out. You had to know this was coming sooner or later. R
BillM Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I'm glad the family made it out, but I hope the driver gets charged through the teeth! I dunno how anyone can be so stupid.
Fisherman Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Sometimes I believe that it's unfortunate that procreation comes naturally, otherwise those that do the stoopid things would need instructions to complete the act. Hopefully his stoopid genes didn't make the trip with his offspring.
Ice_ice Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Next year I'm using my winch as a tip up too! Sad.
cheaptackle Posted February 21, 2012 Author Report Posted February 21, 2012 That's the one Joey. Not meaning to sound ghoulish but I wonder if we'll see the vehicle recovery and hear more about what happens with charges etc. against the driver? I shudder to think of how this COULD have ended up if they didn't have the time to get out? Michael
Sinker Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I shudder to think of how this guy could drive out on that ice with his whole family in the truck!! Glad to hear they all made it out safely, but the driver needs a swift kick in the S.
woodenboater Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Glad to hear everyone is fine more or less. His family must have been riding in the bed or it went in slooooow. Regardless, he needs to have a serious rethink about taking his truck on the ice next year...if his wife lets him.
Marko Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 we saw a pick up about 20 yards from the shore on Sunday....we couldnt believe it. I didnt think anybody would be stupid enough to take their car on that ice....let alone put their families in it.
NAW Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I shudder to think of how this guy could drive out on that ice with his whole family in the truck!! Glad to hear they all made it out safely, but the driver needs a swift kick in the S. X2..
SirCranksalot Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 X3!!! The competition for the Darwin awards is heating up!!
Billy Bob Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 So how does that work in Canada....does their car insurance pay for everything/anything..... I 'heard' down here you would be crap out of luck, but really don't know for sure when it comes to insurance on something this dumb....
Thrilla Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Not sure about the area said but I seen a lot of cars, trucks, vans driving out of port bolster the other day, the was minimum 20" of ice where we drilled, does this area have current or what?
woodenboater Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 BB, I would think insurance would tell you to go eat dirt if you did this and rightly so. Depends on the coverage I guess, comprehensive should be in the works for this guy though....and hefty premiums lol.
16 Footer Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Glad they got out ok but how do you get the truck out with the ice so weak? Leave until spring and lift it out using a barge?
jedimaster Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 As far as I know insurance ends when the road ends. I know a few people that ran into this while offroading. I would imagine its null and void in the middle of a lake. Would suck if its a newish car your making payments on.
Rod Caster Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) So how does that work in Canada....does their car insurance pay for everything/anything..... I 'heard' down here you would be crap out of luck, but really don't know for sure when it comes to insurance on something this dumb.... Its part of our culture apparently, so yes its insured with PDL coverage. It has to be insured, because who could afford to remove their vehicle from 30 feet of water and the subsequent MOE fines. Definitely insured. You wouldnt see half the vehicles on the ice if it wasn't. Edited February 21, 2012 by Rod Caster

All depends on the particular insurance company and the level of coverage. Some do, some don't. All it does is make the price for everyone else go up, you sink it, you pay for it out of your own pocket.
grimsbylander Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Yesterday off Virginia Beach there were lots of cars, pickups, full size SUV's all out running around. Not just near shore, right to Georgina Island. Sitting in the hut, we'd hear the ice cracking and popping as the vehicles went past. I'll walk, it's good exercise!!

Billy Bob Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 HEY BILLY BOB...THE INSURANCE COMPANY UP HERE DOES PAY FOR IT...THEY ACCUALLY PAY FOR STUPIDITY..THE COST CAN BE SOMETIMES OVER 100.000.00 NOT INCLUDING THE TRUCK Well, actually in a way I'm glad they do pay.......but again I would think there should be a 1 time limit to this nonsense.....don't you think....
skeeter Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 There is a 1 time limit and your premiums sky rocket as well. There is also the $500.oo per day fine from the ministry. Fines from the police. Recovery fee's ect Thousands of dollars by the time it's all over. The driver needs to be treated like a penguin from every one.
Sinker Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I"ve never heard about these fines you guys are talking about??? S.

And if the insurance company consider it careless driving, like our subject above, you will get charged and be on the hook for the entire recovery bill.
