TJQ Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I was browsing through a recent issue of Field and Stream Magazine, a US based publication, also known the FOX News of Outdoor magazines (.. ok maybe that is a bad example...) I came across an insert on the years Canadian Fishing Regulations.. and lo and behold there is no mention of the imposter "walleye", but only the venerable mighty "pickerel" is mentioned. Hmmfff.. CASE CLOSED www.pickerelcentral.com "Long Live the Mighty Canadian Pickerel"
irishfield Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks for putting it to bed once and for all Boss !!
manitoubass2 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 I lol'd at the Field and Stream, the FOX news of outdoors magazines. So funny
Headhunter Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Sorry boss, but it's a Pickereye! They obviously can't spell in that rag! HH
mercman Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Very Cool TJ, but which is it. I grew up listening to Dad calling them Pickerel. His Dad too. In Quebec its Dore, i believe from D'or Oeil, meaning Golden Eye, but not 100% sure of that.
Pikeslayer Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 No such thing as pike limits back in the day.
SmokestackLightnin Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Wow, 7 and half hours from a set of batteries. If my wife had those I would have more time for fishing.
umKthxbye Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Very Cool TJ, but which is it. I grew up listening to Dad calling them Pickerel. His Dad too. In Quebec its Dore, i believe from D'or Oeil, meaning Golden Eye, but not 100% sure of that. Dore isn't just a Quebec thing. Its the french name for walleye/pickerel. Dore is a colour, golden brown like roasting a marshmallow to perfection (although i like mine charcoal). I find it funny when English people call them Dore and say thats what they are called and get confused when i tell them thats the French word for walleye/pickerel.
Grimace Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 It was only a matter of time before the truth came out. Good sleuthing.
kickingfrog Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Some ideas (and even some people) evolve over 70 years.
Terry Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 well I knew it all along.. now the mods can ban/qmod anyone that calls them the "W" word instead of PICKEREL
Fisherman Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 WALLEYE WALLEYE WALLEYE NA NA AND AN EXTRA NA NA TO YOU TOO.
TJQ Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 Some ideas (and even some people) evolve over 70 years. LOL.. you've been around here long enough to know that that simply is not true.
johnnyb Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Wow, 7 and half hours from a set of batteries. If my wife had those I would have more time for fishing.
mercman Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 pickerel THATS EXCELLENT ! censor the word w.alleye
kickingfrog Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 LOL.. you've been around here long enough to know that that simply is not true. I did say "some". Dinosaurs just die out.
Fang Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 The entire Canadian fishing regulations summarized on 1/2 a magazine page. Wish things were that simple again
jediangler Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 It's from 1941, just keep on living in the past people. If we don't learn from the mistakes made in the past we are bound to repeat them.
carll2 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Very Cool TJ, but which is it. I grew up listening to Dad calling them Pickerel. His Dad too. In Quebec its Dore, i believe from D'or Oeil, meaning Golden Eye, but not 100% sure of that. they got dore from pickerel beeing golden.. d'or=gold=dore(golden in color)
aplumma Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Why would you want to call the mighty walleye such a lousy name as "pickerel". I even asked my dog this question and he agrees with me on this point. Art
Jer Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 If the ministry had confidence in people distinguishing between pike and musky, FMZ 17 would be pike open all year, no limit. Pike is open all year in FMZ 17, though there is a limit.
