jedimaster Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Maybe a good time to start a thread... if you have open water post it here... I heard Bay of Quinte is open West of Bellville.

big guy Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 A watched pot never boils, in this case, a watched lake never melts
jedimaster Posted April 17, 2014 Author Report Posted April 17, 2014 someone said a watched soft lake never hardens... boy were they wrong...
Burtess Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 There was a guy out ice fishing on the bay in Midland today so no open water there lol.... Burt
captpierre Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 on the satellite map, where ever there us current, the ice is gone either side of Trent Locks, narrows or rivermouths
Entropy Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Got out with the kids this eve in a small tiny. Looked for some crappie. We found none, but we all had a good time, just getting out seeing the ducks, and the kids ate some of the ice that is 100 ft off-shore. Good times. We might try again tomorrow but with worms this time. Entropy
grizzlybri Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) Maybe a good time to start a thread... if you have open water post it here... I heard Bay of Quinte is open West of Bellville. Yup I can confirm that, Presqu'ile Bay (Brighton) has open water all the way across the bay Edited April 19, 2014 by DynamicBear
4x4bassin Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Lakes are still completely ice covered in the Parry Sound area with only the area's of incoming streams open . Actually seen someone ice fishing today on Lake Manitouwabing (20 km NE of Parry Sound)

Happy to hear it Beansie. That means the crappie should be prime when we come up the first of May
Big Cliff Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 Channel is open in front of our place on Sturgeon Lake but there is still plenty of ice both sides of the channel. I am hoping I might be able to get the boat in next weekend but unless there is a serious melt I still won't be able to go anywhere except up river.
JerMac Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 Hamilton Harbour is open, not to stained depending on where you go.
lew Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 My neighbor down the road stores his 20' boat in his boat house for the winter but hoists it up on slings to keep it out of the ice. Now the water is rising so high (Clear Lake) that the boat is floating and the water is pushing it closer to the roof of the boat house. Trouble is the ice is only a couple feet outside the boat house and he can't get the boat out. Gonna be a tense few more days until hopefully the water level drops a bit.
ecmilley Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 Sturgeon is splitting open down the middle probably moved 1 km today. Be in boat next weekend if not have to make the drive to cooks bay
Sinker Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 Drove all over yesterday. The only open launch I found was in rosedale, but balsam wass ice covered. Sturg, pigeon, cameron, simcoe, and most of scugog are all ice covered. East end of the bog is opening up, but main lake has ice still. Hopefully next weekend. S.
BillM Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 Got the boat out today for the 3rd time this year, back bays are still ice covered so no crappies for me!
Steve Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 been out five times so far...but all on lake ontario....not much help for "inland lakes".
Paudash Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Brought my boat home from the cottage in the fall as I wanted to do a ton of spring fishing, now the only thing I get to do is listen to my wife complain that I brought the boat home and never used it
