I seen wolves chasing a deer while I watched from my tree stand. Just NE of Newmarket. Yes, they were wolves. 2 almost as big as the one in this thread and a third about the size of a full grown German Sheppard. The deer ran along the edge of a field, around a corner and down into a gully. Three wolves appeared at the edge of the field and appeared to be communicating about how to get the deer, which was now circling back into the bush. Two wolves went after the deer and a third doubled back into the bush to cut off the deer as it tried to run back through the forest. After a few minutes, the two wolves that went after the deer re-appeared at the edge of the forest, completing a big circle. The third wolf remained in the bush, listening and waiting for the deer to run back to the deep woods. I made a soft doe call and they started walking toward me. Had them about 15 yards away, when they walked behind a small bush, just big enough to conceal them, and disappeared. Kind of freaked me out a bit how they just vanished. I watched that bush for about 20 minutes and nothing moved out from behind the bush. I was worried about getting out of my stand because I wasn't sure if they had left. Yes, I believe wolves have some planning and strategy to their hunts. Never would have believed it if I hadn't seem it myself.

MNR Aurora District Shoots Bear Near Restaurant In Newmarket

Thanks for the laugh !!! -
Had a huge coyote run straight at me while turkey hunting. At first, I thought it was a wolf because of the size. At least I know my turkey calling sounds authentic. It got about 15ft. away, then started moving toward my decoy, caught my scent and did a 180 in a hurry. I didn't move. Shotgun was pointed away from it too, making it tough to swing it around and get a shot. He couldn't see me, just smelled me. I guess my odor is enough to make anything run off in a hurry.

Sounds like a great day for you on the ice. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a great day for all of you. Nice when the fish co-operate. -
Hit the jackpot on the perch. Good shooting !!!

Licking his chops before taking a bite out of you !!! Very nice deer. I've seen quite a few deer (as many as 16 in one field) in the last few weeks and none had antlers. He should be quite a trophy next season.

I've been a Toronto fan my whole life. I take the good and bad, but it's sure sweet when there's lots of good. Even if they're out of the playoffs this year, at least there's something to look forward to next season. GO LEAFS !!!

Safe ice? Do you know what to do if you fall through?

Great videos. Thanks for posting. -
I do both. Don't keep many fish and never shot anything that wasn't going to be eaten.

I would think even a small in/out flow would be enough to oxygenate the water. Rainbow trout are probably your best bet if trout is what you had in mind. They can survive a broader temperature range than other trout. Otherwise, the suggestions already made are good ones. LM bass, panfish, minnows, etc. If you have frogs around the pond, that means tadpoles in spring for the fish to eat. Heck ! If you stock LM bass, they'll eventually start feeding on the adult frogs. Insects will also make up part of the diet. You can feed the fish earth worms from your garden too. If you don't have any trees around the edge of the pond, plant some. Place them in a position to block some of the sunlight. This will provide shade for the fish, keep the water temps. lower in summer and help with soil erosion. A few cedars near the waters edge should be fine. Good luck.

How can all those fish be coming out of that one shallow hole ? Even if they are guided in by the wooden posts, I can't understand how they all end up in that one spot in as great a number as we're seeing on the video. I guess these guys will have lots of time for the vodka next winter as there won't be any fish left to scoop out. Yes, it could be some sort of fish farm to be producing that kind of harvest, but it's still hard to believe the number of fish. They're just piled on top of each other in that one spot. Seems like an endless supply of fish, but.................

Congrats Laszlo, AKA LAZAH !!!!

Very impressive Ron. We use a Jiffy 10 inch auger and it has been excellent for about 25years. Still going strong and the only thing we do is mix the fuel and go.

I've always known CO's to be earning a salary in the same range as police officers and firefighters and don't have a problem with the salary they earn. I also agree that we should have more CO's. About double the current # would be a start. It's not about recovering the money spent on enforcement, but having some sort of enforcement in place to protect our fish and wildlife. ....and the rant starts ! I wonder how many more CO's (country wide) could be hired with the 'BILLIONS' spent on a faulty, useless gun registry ? Thank the Liberal party for, once again, wasting 'BILLIONS' of our tax dollars to buy votes. Did I mention the 'BILLIONS' wasted on a faulty gun registry while it has done nothing to reduce gun crimes. Don't forget the 'hundreds of millions' (that we know of) that the Liberal party laundered to friends and family. I guess that's O.K. because they consider it "charitable contributions" as well as helping out those in need ........of GREED !!! Remember what the Liberal party has done to us next time you vote. Don't turn a blind eye, as many others have. I'm not a fan of politicians in general, but have a special hate brewing inside of me for the people who are responsible for the gun registry and theft of our money. There are many politicians who should be in prison right now, but use our weak legal system and it's loopholes to continue stealing from us. In my opinion, the colour red in political circles represents nothing good. Broken liberal promises don't make them worthy of the elected positions they hold. Yes, they lie to get elected, then steal our money before we figure out the mistake we made. .....and the apology. Sorry for the rant. Hire more CO's, raise fines and enforce prison terms for serious crimes to the fish and wildlife act, especially repeat offenders. Third time offenders should be banned from hunting and fishing activities for life. No exceptions. Including guiding, commercial fishing, etc.

SWEEEEEET !!! Congrats on the nice deer Ben.

The billions spent on the gun registry would be better spent on increased law enforcement to deal with the real criminals.

I have 2 Excalibur crossbows. Never had a problem, just a string change you can do yourself. They're 12 and 10 years old respectively and still shooting like day one. About 25 fps. difference between them, but they both have plenty of power to take game within 40 yards. Most of the game I shoot are at 10 yards or less with the furthest being being about 25 yards. Bolts go right through a deer most times. -
AWESOME !!! SIMPLY AWESOME !!! thanks Cliff.

If Hamilton gets a team, it will suceed and won't affect the sales of tickets to Leafs games one bit. Buffalo may have an issue though. It will be more profitable than any of the southern U.S. teams that are struggling and came to be under Bettmans tenure. He simply doesn't want to admit that his plan to establish the NHL in a weak southern U.S. market has failed miserably. How does he get away with it? He makes the profitable teams pay money to support the weak teams. He's an egomaniac and refuses to admit Canada is the best place to move the next team. He had a bid from Jim Balsilie for 70 or 80 million $$$ more than the next buyer, but his ego got in the way of a smart business move. How dare a Canadian think they could buy one of his debt ridden U.S. teams and re-locate them to a viable, profitable Canadian city where they wouldn't have to discount tickets and beg the fans to come watch a game. Shame on you Gary Bettman. Hamilton should have a team, as well as Winnipeg and Quebec City. Regina could probably support one too. No shortage of hockey fans in the prairies. Lots of NHL players from the prairies. How about Halifax, Nova Scotia ??? Yeah, I heard there are a few hockey fans in Nova Scotia. Isn't that where that terrible, awful player named Sidney Crosby comes from ??? He won a Stanley Cup last season. DOH !!! Five cities I just named that would have a much better chance of survival in the NHL than any of the struggling southern U.S. teams. You're an ass Bettman. Let Canada show you how to run a hockey league, you miserable weenie !!! Sorry for the rant. Leafs are my #1 team, regardless of their record this season, or any other for that matter. I just hope they win the Stanley Cup once in my lifetime. Last time was the year before I was born.

They are there, but as mentioned, it's not easy to catch them. My uncle works at the Pickering nuke station and sees the odd muskie get sucked against the water intake grill, along with numerous other species. They have to pull it up to clean it and there's always a lot of fish trapped against the grill. They just get too close or are already dead or weak and float towards the intake. I've heard of muskie being hooked by shore anglers at the mouth of the Credit River in Mississauga. A rare occurance, but it does happen. Probably any large rivermouth around Lake Ontario attracts baitfish and has the potential for holding a ski or two. There's little structure, if any, so these fish roam a very large area of open water. That's why it's like finding a needle in a haystack. The east end of Lake Ontario has much more structure and prefered habitat and therefore, logically and factually, holds more muskie than the rest of the lake. There's also more current where the lake starts to narrow towards the St. Larry, attracting other species that the skies feed on. I would think there's a few around the Toronto islands because they spawn in the same areas as pike and frequent similar water temp. and habitats. Not as numerous as the pike though, so again, not easy to catch one here. Give it a try. Even if you don't get one, at least you tried and spent some time fishing. Good luck !!!

Haven't been there in years, but I'd definitely bring the boat. Baptiste Lake is connected to Elephant Lake and offers some good fishing as well.

WOW !!! Definitely a dream buck. Congrats on the compound doe. I use a crossbow as well and have been thinking of trying the compound. We shall see......

Dangled my feet off the dock at Sparrow Lake for many summers as a kid. I've caught small muskie in Sparrow, but nothing even close to this beast. AWESOME !!!
