  1. The fact that this old lady says she owns the river bed should be a tip off that she knows a bit about it and has been through this situation before. I would have politely asked her to call the Ministry of Natural Resources and ask that a Conservation Officer be sent to investigate. She's probably called many times in the past and the CO's are sick of her moaning about her property rights. A CO I know, now retired, told me only about 1% of all the riverbeds in Ontario are privately owned, mostly in southern Ontario. This is a guy who retired recently with about 35 years service under his belt. He handed out more fines than other CO's in his area, but was always fair with hunters and anglers. Once, in my presence, he checked out a repeat complaint by an old lady that anglers were trespassing on her land. When he showed up, there was one guy standing in the water fishing, just a few metres downstream of a bridge that the road passed over. The CO looked, didn't see anything wrong and drove off. Investigation complete !!! He was actually upset with this lady for wasting his time. Rightfully so. Didn't even bother talking to the lady who made the complaint since he had spoken to her numerous times in the past. Always the same Bull story. She claims to own land under the river because she doesn't want anglers walking along the riverbank beside her property. From what I understood, it was only up to the high water mark that she actually owned, so most of the year, you could actually walk on dry land at the river's edge and not be on her property. She's obviously been informed that she can't ask people to leave unless she owns the river bed, so now she claims to own that as well in an effort to drive away anglers. The CO's are well informed and if she had the right to ask people to leave, they would make sure you knew you were trespassing. Get the address or emergency # (small green road sign with white numbers) for both sides of the river (if possible) and go to the local land registry office or in some cases the planning department. Make sure you have the correct township/municipality and the correct road name. You may have to pay a fee for the info, but if you wish to fish a good stretch of river unmolested, it's well worth the hassle. Obviously, if the landowner does have rights to the river bed, you're limited to fishing from the road bridge and the edges of the river around the bridge. They can't chase you away from the government land around the bridge, although I've heard that many try that too. Some landowners like to fish themselves and try to scare away anglers to protect "their" fish.
  2. Can Pittsburg win in Detroit ??? Gonna be tough to win the cup in the motor city. We'll find out soon. GO PENS !!!
  3. Excellent !!! Good shooting guys.
  4. Not a wings fan and I'd like to see someone else win the cup, so I'm on the Pittsburg bandwagon for this one. Last night: The look on Zetterburg's face after the last Pittsburg goal summed it all up. Frustration, bewilderment, disappointment !!! Pens passing was awesome. It was making me dizzy watching from home, so I can just imagine what the Red Wings felt like. The wings are lucky to have only allowed 4 goals. It could have been much worse. Having said that, I think Detroit will come out strong in game 5. What happens after that is a crap shoot.
  5. Same here. Bummer !!! The to do list is always growing too. Should be able to get out either Sunday or Monday for some wallys. Maybe Rice Lake.
  6. Thanks report and pic. Sweet !!!
  7. Nice to see a report from you Clive. Looks like you had a good trip, but sounds as if there was a lot of running around. cheers dude.
  8. Carp

    Hey Joey!

    Happy Birthday Joey. cheers
  9. Just another day in the core of Toronto. I avoid that place like an east wind. Very nice to view the city from the lake at night though Last year I stayed out until dark just for that reason. No roads for the protesters to block out there. Late nights driving along the Gardiner Expressway is very nice too. Providing there are no pedestrians going for a stroll across the highway.
  10. Good to see the walleye around the islands. They're biting during daylight hours too. Bonus !!! Nice shootin' !
  11. We have a 16 ft. Legend that we bought new in 1990. (Smokercraft riveted hull) It's gets used on some big water like: L.Simcoe, Georgian Bay, L.Nippising, Bay of Quinte, L.Erie, Kawarthas and L.Ontario. Never had a leak problem.
  12. Ummmm. Looks like a skull. Yeah, first thought was a plastic bag caught round some brush, but the hole gives it away as a plastic jug. I used to run a lot, but she kept calling the police and they would always bring me home.
  13. Nice to see the boys and girls in green on the job. Report poachers with as much info as you can gather. Wish the government would put some more cash into enforcement. I'd like to see the number o CO's in Ontario double. About one third of Canada's population is found in this province and the number of CO's protecting our fish and wildlife should reflect this as well.
  14. What would happen if every last cormorant was destroyed (which won't happen in my lifetime)? Vegetation would flourish once again, sportfish populations would increase, people, animals, other nesting birds would be able to use the islands and shorelines again and there would be a significant increase in water quality around these areas too. I can't see a negative impact on any other living creature with the demise of the cormorant. Am I missing something ? If these cormorant lovers have a few birds hanging around their own properties, destroying their vegetation and stinking up the place, I'm sure they wouldn't be so opposed to a cull. They're always ready to oppose necessary measures to control wildlife somewhere else, but when it's happening in their own backyard, the tune changes quickly. How many people in Newmarket, Ontario supported the cancellation of the spring bear hunt to protect those cute, cuddly bears they see on TV, then turned around and wanted more control measures put in place when bears were spotted running around on their city streets and in their yards recently?
  15. I was at the ACC last March as well. First ever Iron Maiden show for me. Awesome show. Got there early and Bruce was back stage talking to a couple of guys. They spotted me pointing the camera and tried to stand in front of him to block my view. Then, he walked right by me (standing at the tunnel) to go get ready for the show, but I wasn't prepared for it and missed the opportunity for a pic. Had the first seat at the right front corner of the stage, near the bands entrance/exit tunnel. Got some nice pics and video. A few pics and video of them clowning around back stage too. Bruce looked right at me a number of times during the show (with camera at the ready), then made a comment during the show about people and their audio/visual/picture/digital stuff and it was obvious it ticked him off a bit. Then told the fans he couldn't do anything about it, but they knew who the people were and could do something. It's probably a good thing I didn't try and stop him for a pic when he walked by.
  16. OK, so stop yapping about it and let's GET IT ON !!! Give some details about how, where, when, etc. Haven't done a hockey pool for a while, but what the heck, I'm in.
  17. Forget the walleye opener. You can fish walleye anytime of year. Your daughter's competitions are more important.
  18. Mmmmmm!!! Sweeet !!!!

  22. So that's where all the bait fish went.
  23. Good shooting.
