  1. Yes, there is a hunting regulations summary. Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary Here's the Migratory Game Bird Regs. for Ontario. Ontario Migratory Game Bird Regulations
  2. Glad to hear the CO's are getting the job done.
  3. Yes, what they did was clearly illegal and just plain stupid. Don't think there's anything wrong with nailing the geese as they're taking off, as long as it's safe to do so and not done from a moving, motorized vehicle. IDIOTS !!! Guys like this need to lose their license for at least 5 years, pay a hefty fine, lose their boat and do volunteer work to improve migratory bird habitat. Dang !!! Why didn't I become a judge. Hire more Conservation Officers. We need twice the number we have now.
  4. Nice to hear from you dude.
  5. As a realtor myself, I know how hard it is to shake the image that a few of our peers have instilled in peoples minds. As far as checking property ownership, I'm looking for the legal owner of a property right now for exactly this topic we are discussing and would never think of asking for a fee. My uncle wants to fish a small creek that's posted on both sides of the road, so I told him if he at least asks the owner for permission, there's always a chance he may get in. Don't ask and you'll never know. So he wants me to do a bit of research for him because the property doesn't have a house on it and neighbours he's asked don't seem to know who owns it. If you do get permission, have a bottle of wine or other gift ready in the car to show your appreciation. A small gesture goes a long way. I always offer to help out around the property when looking permission to hunt land. You land owners paying attention here ? I keep an eye on the property for the owner as well. They really appreciate you informing them of tresspassers and other things. Many times the owner doesn't live at the property to keep an eye on it or it's just too large a parcel to see everything that goes on. Hard to sue someone if you don't know who it is. There's no clear identity of the person who left the warning. I don't think it was the owner who left this ticket on the windshield. Probably another angler or hunter who doesn't want anyone else on the property. I've actually hunted with a Conservation Officer and he told me only 1% of landowners in Ontario own the river beds. The other 99% only own up to the high water mark. (highest point the water reaches during spring runoff/flooding) He had investigated complaints from a property owner that anglers were on her land. This was one of many previous complaints from the same person. He checked it out, but there was no evidence anyone was on private property. Only 1 angler fishing at the rivers edge by the overpass. Well within government property and fishing legally. I do believe some anglers wander onto peoples land. It's these inconsiderate few that spoil it for everyone else. The CO was ticked at the property owner for wasting his time. Never even questioned the angler. It was enough for the angler to see the MNR vehicle cruising around.
  6. Very cool. Thanks for the link Wild. Now where exactly is it you said that camera was placed ? Would be really neat to see more of these underwater cameras around.
  7. I've done well with worm tipped spinners and small spoons. Out on a charter a couple of years ago. We caught 21 walleye in about 3 hours. Only 2 or 3 came off the riggers. The rest were on dipseys. The same green and orange spoon took more than half the fish, including 7 bows and about 20 - 25 sheepshead. 35 to 50 feet down was the magic depth, but that was @ the end of July. Don't be scared to kick the speed up a notch too. If you don't find a school of fish, it won't matter what you do.

Thanks Jose. I'll give it a try.

I'd like to know how to convert IMG images to .gif pics. Or do I save the pics as .gif images from the start? OFAH Angler Awards Program requires .gif images, but all my pics are IMG. Help would be greatly appreciated. Funny thing is I entered fish last year and don't remember changing anything. Then again, I don't remember what I did yesterday either.
  10. I was out on the big lake for some salmon and trout this past weekend. Fishing was slow, but I did catch a couple of decent fish and a few smaller ones. A very nice bow @ 33.25 inches and a decent chinook @ 34.75 inches. The bow took off like a bullet, but the chinny was a bleeder and my neighbor asked for one, so it came home. I should be able to get out a few more times in the next couple of weeks. Hope I'll have something else worth posting. Rainbow trout. Chinook salmon

    BPS Question

Just fold up the paper and keep it in a small zip lock bag. Put it in the boat, tackle box, etc. I did this after printing the online temporary renewal. My card came super quick. I think it was about a week.
  12. Bummer to get ripped off, but satisfying to know the pricks got caught. 9 motors, 1 boat, 2 rods/reels, etc. People like this should get an automatic jail sentence. This was obviously a planned theft for the purpose of selling for profit. Not someone passing by and snatching something for their own use. I doubt this was the first time these people did this. They just got caught this time. 5 years without chance of early release sounds about right. They should also reimburse all those affected since they ruined your trip, pay for another trip for your group and pay for any damages to your equipment. Don't think they'll get what they deserve. Crimminals rarely do. DANG !!! I should have been a judge.
  13. It was a pleasure having Malcolm & yourself on board Will. I had hoped to get you into more fish, but things don't always go as planned. To be continued............ The fishing seems to have picked up over the last few days with the stable weather. I'll be out there this weekend at some point and probably a few more times over the next 2 or 3 weeks. The rod & reel combo was a pleasant surprise and definitely the longest catch I ever had in the boat. DANG !!! I forgot to get a picture with it.
  14. SWEET !!!
  15. Excellent day on the water guys.
  16. It's interesting that most of these sightings and claims come from the U.S. People looking for $$$ to tell their stories. If these things did exist. There would be more evidence somewhere. Why are most of the photos and videos fuzzy ??? The ones that are clear look very much like a large human in an ape suit. Older pics and video can claim poor tecnology, but what's the excuse vith modern equipment? Most people would have a camera while camping or hiking. Heck, you can even take pics and video with the cell phone. Most people carry them. When a wild animal spots you, it will normally stand / sit still for a bit and stare at you. At least my experiences have been as such. If they've been watching you for a bit and you get too close, they will run, not calmly walk away. These videos always show a creature walking calmly away from the human with the camera. Almost always a side profile. Don't these creatures ever walk away from people? If they're so reclusive, they'd run away at the site of a human. Seems these creatures aren't too afraid of humans. That would indicate they live close to populated areas and are used to humans, therefore would be sighted more often and leave tracks everywhere. HOAX !!! I find deer hair on fences all the time and droppings & tracks everywhere. Same with moose and bear tracks & droppings. Lots of wolf tracks, but I've only seen 3 in the wild, all at the same time. I was in my treestand & they were chasing an old doe (deer) just a few minutes from a heavily populated area. (yes, I know the difference between wolves and coyotes) Where's the bigfoot hair, droppings (maybe they're on municipal sewage & flush it away ) , decomposing body, (real) tracks, bedding areas, etc.? I do believe there is life on other planets. Whether or not these life forms have visited earth is another story. We discovered recently there may have been life on Mars in the form of organisms & maybe more. Our technlogy doesn't allow us to reach distant solar systems / galaxies, etc. With all the millions of planets and solar systems, there has to be a few similar to ours. Most people assume other life forms are more advanced than us, but they could also be very primitive. I'm sure there's something out there, but doubt it will ever be proven in my lifetime.
  17. Congrats on the fish and beauty prize pack that goes with it.
  18. WOW !!! Congrats on the beauty ski. If you beat that one, Rizzo can eat my hat too.
  19. Very "SWEET" fish ! Great day on the water for you Meely. Congrats !
  20. The word "IDIOT" keeps dancing through my mind. Absolutely hillarious douG. I almost wet myself. I was laughing so hard, the kids came running to see what happened.
  21. .......and here I was thinking rednecks don't care if their meat is fresh.
  22. I have many friends in the evacuation area & my mother in-law lives just a few minutes n/w of the area. She called early this morning explaining the news. We called some friends closest to the danger & they were O.K. Scary stuff.
  23. Fished/camped in a remote area of eastern Georgian Bay years back. The place was infested with these water snakes. Got to the point where we were being chased away from the boats. Had to throw fish scraps to distract them. They picked ' em up from the bottom on the lake & swam away. Venemous or not, these snakes were way too agressive for my liking. Paddled the boat through a shallow, narrow channel between islands. One large snake swam towards the boat, right under us & onto shore on the opposite side. I spotted the head coming out from under the boat & quickly looked to the other side, where I saw the tail still waiting to be pulled under. With the width of the boat as a guide, I estimated the length to be at least seven feet. Although, all the others we saw were around 2 to 4 feet long. Also one bold bass bear who decided to swim across a channel to our island camp because he liked the smell of our lunch. Middle of a hot, sunny summer day. These animals/reptiles had absolutely no fear. Probably never encountered humans before. Once as young teens fishing off the dock in the Moon River Basin, we encountered one of these water snakes hiding under us. As we pulled out panfish, the snake would grab the fish and not let go until we yanked it up & down a few times over the water. This went on for half an hour before the snake finally got tired and swam away. We're lucky these things aren't poisonous. Probably the most agressive creatures I've encountered in Ontario, ....well, except for a few cougars cruising for a mate.
  24. If this guy was bragging about catching & keeping limits for his entire family and then catching more & giving them away, I'll bet he had more fish in his possession than he was letting on and some illegal slot fish too. If he's gotten away with it once, the second, third, ....hundreth time, etc., comes easier for him. Sounds like this wasn't the first time he's done this. You did the right thing Gerritt. MNR officers will get the truth from the family if they investigate. I'd like to see him serve a day in jail for every fish he took over his limit (12+++) along with a $100 fine for each fish over the limit ($1200+++), $100 fine for any fish in the slot limit, forfeit his gear and lose his fishing priviledges for at least 3-5 years. But hey, I'm just a big softie. Of course, a real judge would probably come down hard on "Jeff". A "real" judge would settle for a much smaller fine, no jail time, and let him keep his gear so he continue raping our natural resources. " Jeff ", will learn his lesson and just be more careful not to open his mouth next time he's fishing illegally, which will be as often as he can because the penalties and chances of getting caught are minimal. I'll also bet that if he does get busted, next time someone asked if he caught anything, he'll be much more evasive and his answer will be "no", or "just a couple", no matter how many fish he has. What a dumb !!!
  25. I pay $42/mth for home phone (full features) and high speed internet. A company called CIA or CIA / Cybersurf based in Ottawa. They are associated with my original isp called CYBERSURF based in Calgary. The only downside is that occasionally the phone service is down for a bit. It runs off my high speed internet cable & through a VoIP box. They've had some sort of bug recently and I can only call out. No incoming calls. Hey, works for me. The wife is a little peeved though. Should be rectified shortly. Our cell phones (basic plans) are with Fido (owned by Rogers) and cost us more than double what the home phone & internet costs us. The service has been great, but my contract is up soon & I'll be looking for a cheaper plan for sure.
