Old Ironmaker if you click on the link I provided you can see most of ships in the world.

Can zoom in or out to where your looking.

By moving your mouse to point at a certain ship it will give you information about it. Clicking on it will give even more info.

Thanks Woodsman, very nice and I can use it especially these days that seem to last 80 hours each. I  went for a visit to the Steel plant here last spring where I worked for a time and the Dock Foreman showed me a similar program to see how far out their incoming vessels were. I wish we had that way back when. Our communications were basic VHF radios and that was hi tech, when they were in range. Often they were at the dock blasting the ships  horn to tell us they had arrived and the 1st Mate yelling over the rail to ask us what marker to dock at. Never too happy when we had to tell them they had to reverse 1500 ft. to hit the mark. The crew needed to get off to get last call at the Ballet down the street from the plant and it wasn't a very happy bunch of sailors that have been on an ore boat for a few weeks, sometimes longer. Yep real hi tech.

Hell I know that 80hr day thing myself.

Also a similar site for planes.

a lot of air traffic still considering we are all under isolation. I use it with my radio hobby and I've learned the sound of the ORNGE helicopter , I live very near the lake and a flight path for heli's, I usually go here follow where it is headed , ambulance chasing from the comfort of my home 🤣

There's an old saying. "Never let anyone watch you make love to your wife or make sausages."

Without a doubt, that is the strangest 'old saying' you will ever hear claimed in your life.

Well, we have decided to head for home early Tuesday morning, if we are going to get it it will be a lot easier to deal with it there than here.  Trudeau announced that closing the borders is a possibility, it's not worth taking the chance.

Big Cliff,

Like here, it appears that Myrtle Beach has changed a lot since you left the area a few weeks ago:

LOL, they aren't spreading anything? I'm on the flight path for Cleveland Hopkins, I used to be able to sit in my yard in the evening and see the landing lights on the planes lined up for miles on the western approach.

" A plane like a Boeing 747 uses approximately 1 gallon of fuel (about 4 liters) every second. Over the course of a 10-hour flight, it might burn 36,000 gallons (150,000 liters). According to Boeing's Web site, the 747 burns approximately 5 gallons of fuel per mile (12 liters per kilometer). "

" A "semi" truck gasoline tanker holds 9,000 gallons, give or take. The capacity is usually controlled by the 80,000 lb gross weight limit for trucks in the US. (I can't speak for other parts of the world.)  A gallon of gasoline weighs about 7 lbs, and the truck weighs quite a bit itself, so you don't see liquid hydrocarbon tanks exceed 10,000 gallons. That would push it into DOT permit load territory which is substantially more paperwork and possibly a mandatory police escort. "

Airports must have a pipeline to deliver fuel? I had the area around Hopkins for my peddle run years ago  and never noticed an unusual amount of tanker traffic.

Wow, it sure has! For an area that relies almost totally on tourism this is going to hit them really hard. We have our place reserved for next winter but if we do end up having to cancel we only loose $40.00 so I can live with that. In the campground we stay at a lot of owners rely on rental income to help defer the cost of lot fees, maintenance, and insurance; without that income I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of places on the market at very reduced prices.

I feel really bad for them we got to be friends with many of them. I pray this ends soon or I fear we could see a huge depression.

Ive avoided this thread for weeks now simply due to my personal decision to not overload myself Covid related information and content.

This thing is scary, and for our neighbors to the south its perhaps really going to get even scarier before it gets better. Rather than us settling into our pattern of distancing to get through this thing, some people are already starting to turn. For republicans in the united states its become a matter of individual rights and freedoms being violated by Covid restrictions.

I dont want to dive into the politics even though I have obviously referenced american politics, lets just say im glad I live in canada where from what I can tell >90% of people understand that our sacrifices are making a difference. We are openly seeing it in the statistics that are coming out this week. We are effectively flattening the curve and our positive projections are aligning with our reality. Canada is going to come out on top of this because we are a nation of smart and caring people. Its honestly making me proud to be Canadian again.

The difference in dialogue between our forum and the american fishing form is in stark contrast and I am extremely happy to say that we are on the positive side of things. Good on everyone!

Dont let the news also twist your outlook on this entire thing. There is very very little content to cover these days with us all on lockdown, hence the small faction of people not adhering to the rules represents a disproportionate amount of the news content. I go for a walk each day, and people stringently adhere to social distancing guidelines, it even becomes the old dance where one person tries to go out to the road to walk by while the other does the same to be polite. How canadian!

My visit to the grocery store was even in contrast to the one i took two weeks ago (I have been doing my best to limit trips) Yesterday not once did i feel frustrated with other shoppers not adhering to the distancing guidelines. People were courteous to step back as you passed, people waited for you to grab items from a safe distance and depart so that they could get their own, and people lined up appropriately according to the measures in place spacing everyone out.

We all have our individual levels of precaution, but for the most part we all also have displayed a very common sense approach to this and are in my opinion taking appropriate measures. Some guys are getting out fishing still even but doing so in a manner that appears to be very very responsible. Others take a more hardline approach...either way at least I dont see anyone here moaning and groaning about the fact that their bass tournaments arent allowed to run...good grief! 🤔

We are a long long way from getting back to the lives we once knew, but at least I think Canada is on right path to getting things back to a more normal existence at least here at home.

You have to remember that here in the states we're about 2-3 weeks ahead of Canada on the curve; this is clearly evident in my business of medical equipment and the push of demand now coming hard from up north...fully back to business as usual in the US.

And I believe your assessment is not an apples to apples comparison as 'getting back to normal' is now on the radar here...where as 2-3 weeks ago it was fully 'hunker down and stay in place'.

I find it curious also the amount of attention Canadians spend "watching" what the US is doing politically and be able to compare and debate it with accuracy (most of the time)...now in the context of COVID-19. Ask Americans what's going on in Canada and 99% would have absolutely no idea...fewer would be even able to tell you who the PM is...

That's neither right or wrong...just a fact.

Not curious at all.

What happens in the US has far more effect on us in Canada than what happens in Canada effects those in the US.

Also our basic tv packages include many US channels. I doubt that US basic tv packages include many Canadian channels.

And the biggest majority of our population lives relatively close to the US-Canada border. The same can't be said for the US population.

" Dr. Acton previously said the state’s numbers, which now include probable cases per CDC guidelines, likely don’t reflect all of the cases in the state because testing is primarily used to screen individuals who are hospitalized or work in the health care field.

An additional 127 cases and 15 deaths are presumed to be linked to COVID-19 under the CDC expanded definitions. "

So the actual number here in Ohio alone could be a good deal higher.

But a lot of Americans know who Red Green is, eh?

This can maybe be taken as a shot at Americans, but honestly I don’t really care, but in my experience significantly far more Americans are completely uneducated about the world outside of America in comparison to Canadians. Some would even go to the extent of calling it ignorance. I.e. if it doesn’t concern America then it doesn’t concern them at all. It’s an unfortunate reality as far as I’m concerned.

im also sure a significant component of Americans would have no clue who the British, German or French president/prime ministers are either.

Canadians know we live in a global society and  most know what’s happening in the G6 countries

the us is the closest country that can threaten us , so of course we keep track of what they are doing

But on a side note, its been ten year since an American has asked me while chatting on ham radio , if I live in an igloo or if I have to watch out for polar bears

Once they start easing on this,we still need to keep the boarders closed to public crossing and the same as flying. No flying in or out  for atleast 6 months or more . Allow essential crossing by trucks caring essential like it is now . Keep Canada, USA ,self isolated . .
