Bill Shearer Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 I am leasing this Ford Edge, and the lease is up in a year. I'm going to be over the KM allotment, and It's going to need tires before I turn it in, so I might as well get the best of the tires through the winter. I just found out that 20" tires are not reasonably priced! I've shopped Costco for Michelins, and Can Tire, (all brands) and also Beverly Tire for Goodyears, and Yokohama. Seems that $1250+- $50 is what I will be paying. Anybody have any suggestions to save $50-$100?
Tom McCutcheon Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Don't know if it's legal or not (probably not) to do when turning in a leased vehicle, but you could always change the size of the rim to 18". OR put used 20" on that are better than the ones now. Perhaps a wrecker might have some?
Bill Shearer Posted October 31, 2016 Author Report Posted October 31, 2016 Been there, done that, but thanks for the suggestion!
lew Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) I just put 20" Michelin Defenders on my F150 and the total price including road hazard and taxes from Kal Tire was $1193 and they're the best tires I've ever driven on. Edited October 31, 2016 by lew
misfish Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 To be honest, that price is reasonable. I paid that for 18,s on my Avenger when I had it. I just came from Tire depot. Getting 4 new snows installed ballanced tax,s in for $685. 265 R 17,s
cheaptackle Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Yup, that bigger hole in the middle does jack up the price! I think the used tire suggestion by Tom and Kijiji by huzsba are your two best bets. Also, there's a lot (growing every day it seems) of Facebook buy & sell groups that I've even had some success with. Michael
Bill Shearer Posted October 31, 2016 Author Report Posted October 31, 2016 At the end of the day, I realize that in most cases, the price is the price. I guess I was hoping for the rabbit out of the hat deal, but doubtful that it's possible. I even checked south of Ft. Erie, and with the taxes and exchange forget it!
misfish Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Dang, almost for got Johns post here http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=83255
huzzsaba Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Tires23 in Mississauga is pretty good. I was looking for 18 inch tires for my volvo and was quoted 1200 everywhere else. They had them installed balanced for $800 taxes included. Plus their waiting room is one of the best.
farsider Posted October 31, 2016 Report Posted October 31, 2016 Maybe check in with Kenny U-Pull in Hamilton. They have great prices on used tires. Not sure how often your size comes along though. Cheers, Mark
Bill Shearer Posted October 31, 2016 Author Report Posted October 31, 2016 I'm checking with John right now, and will follow up on the other suggestions. Thanks to all
GBW Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 I paid $1100 after tax M/B/I at a dealer in Beaverton for my wheels for my Ram 1500

Tjames09 Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 without clicking the thread I knew tires of that size are $300 per tire. Thats normal and standard pricing. Best bet for cheap tires is Kijiji. There's no "magic" deal from retailers, they will all be within a few dollars of one another, unless you go for an off brand tire.
lew Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 There's no "magic" deal from retailers, they will all be within a few dollars of one another, My Michelin Defenders were $400 cheaper at Peterboro Kal Tire than the local FORD dealer
Sinker Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 My Michelin Defenders were $400 cheaper at Peterboro Kal Tire than the local FORD dealer Of course they were. NEVER go to the dealer!! EVER! S.
lew Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Of course they were. NEVER go to the dealer!! EVER! S. I had no intention of buying the tires from the dealership Shane, I knew they'd be highest price but wanted a benchmark to start from.
DanD Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 If I knew the exact size of these 20" tires; I'd be able to check what my shop can get them for? Dan.
Bill Shearer Posted November 1, 2016 Author Report Posted November 1, 2016 Many thanks to all who had input to offer. I got a return response from John right away, and have to say I'm pleased with his offer. Saved me quite a bit over Costco, and dealers in Hamilton. Like the old add says, "It's worth the drive to Milton." Tires go on the car Thursday!
lew Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Johns a great guy Floatman, he'll treat you well.
Korber Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Best advice, find a tire guy that would sell you Chinese tires. They have HORRID road noise but they are cheap. Past that buy good used ones. That price you got isn't crazy either. Look for rebate deals too. I buying tires is part of my job, albeit for truck tires but the ideas are the same. I can try and see what I can get you prices for. PM me with size and details.
lew Posted November 1, 2016 Report Posted November 1, 2016 Best advice, find a tire guy that would sell you Chinese tires. They have HORRID road noise but they are cheap. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe it's just me, but in my opinion tires are one of the most important parts of a car for keeping me and mine safe and I'll ALWAYS buy the best I can get. I could NEVER understand why anyone would cheap out on something as important as tires. As I said though, maybe it's just me.

If your lease is just about up and you have to turn the car in, cheap is good.
