ccmtcanada Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 As we were all talking on the weekend about our fishing adventures, I realized that there are many "local" areas I'd love to fish...but for some reason, I haven't gone. It may be because time is limited, or I don't have the confidence to take my little boat on bigger or strange waters, or I don't have the expertise or know-how in certain types of fishing and locations. Being a relative newbie angler, there's always breaking that knowledge barrier. I have put in a lot of time and effort into things like bass/walleye/muskie fishing Kawartha lakes, carp fishing using boilies and mixing my own ground bait, pounding local creeks for steelhead and casting for salmon from piers, but I have lots of things on my to do list still. Anyhow, what is "close by" to you? Is there something you'd like to try or a place you'd like to venture? Here's what's on my list...they are all local to me...just haven't gotten around to them yet... 1) Steelhead fishing the niagara...either from shore on in a boat 2) Brook trout fishing waters in Southern Ontario streams. 3) Fishing for Lake O salmon/trout...either downrigging, using torpedo divers or dipseys. 4) Venturing to the Blue Zone 5) Fishing the nuke plant outflow in the dead of winter 6) Steelhead fishing some of the bigger Lake Huron tibutaries.
fishnsled Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 We can easily cross off numbers 3, 4 & 5 for ya Cliff. I've done your 1, 2 and 6 wishes and wouldn't mind doing them again. For myself, I'd love to do some back lake speckle fishing, well I've done that before but would love to do it again. Gar fishing, never caught one of those. Monster catfish down in Dunnville, Crossed off many since I've been on the board.
cuzza Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 From your avatar it looks like you're doing OK for a newbie! My list would be.... 1) Gar on the fly 2) Stalking carp on the Erie 'flats' 3) Steelheading on the Niagara 4) Finally getting round to trying ice fishing
adolson Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) I couldn't really narrow it down, but the stuff Moosebunk's posted twice now really is something I won't forget - and I wasn't even there. Aside from that, I think I'd like to do a bunch of stuff Robson Green does in his show. Marlin fishing, catching trout in the Grand Canyon, etc. As for nearby, I wish I could remember the places my dad took me as a kid, because I remember us catching trout, and I'd like to revisit wherever that was. And then there's my plans to try actual brooks and creeks for brookies next year. Edited October 25, 2011 by Dana
oldphart Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 ~~~~I like phishen for Perch, so the Nile Perch is on my bucket list
Fang Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Pinks on superior Fishing has been OK last few years for the small amount of time I get out but not really seeing that one big fish or that one day were quality and numbers come to gether. I had a few days on Lake O this year that were high double digits but all shaker size I really want one of those stupid fish days again on either Erie, Niagara or Quinte. Hasn't happened in a while for me. You know, that "you should have been here yesterday" bite!!!
mercman Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I'd love to fish the waters of the St Lawerence from Boucherville to Lake St Pierre.Walleye and Musky fishing is sposed top be the best in Quebec. Its in my plans for next season.
NAW Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I've always wanted to go back up to Pickle Lake where I was born. Should be some decent fishing up that way..
craigdritchie Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I keep thinking I should spend more time fishing for crappies. I often think about it, but for one reason of another never actually get around to it.
Rod Caster Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 There is a native population of land locked atlantic salmon nearby. (Only one in Ontario) The season is only open for one week each year... I'm hoping to try that some day.. Catching one would be a huge prize
smally21 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 lac seul or something like esnagi. northern ontario walleye fishing. id like to do some of these walk ins like get posted here that leave us all in mouth watering walleye and pike envy. i just dont think i have it in me!
ecmilley Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Cliff done all but the mighty niagra on your list, so when you want to do some stream brookies let me know I'll show you all my spots in southern or central ontario. as for me, i would like to to pre-spawn bass on champlain, hopefully spring 2011. figure out where all the crappies go after walleye season opens up. like to spend more time fising central lake ontario bass and walleye cause i know there there. maybe actually use my snowmobile to go into some back woods speckle lakes in the hali-bancroft district this winter. my dream fishing trip is dragging my boat down to lake ochkeechobee or lake fork
Pikeslayer Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 New Zealand. Black Marlin. Within the next 2 years. Slayer.
bigbuck Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Back up to Lake of The Woods. I haven't even scratched the surface there.
Twocoda Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 The BEST WESTERN in London has some HUGE COY....i would like to try that again
MJL Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Aside from the steelhead rivers I still have yet to fish, I’d really love to try fishing for big, lake dwelling brookies...I don’t really care where.
bigugli Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Anywheres I ain't fished before. I couldn't narrow it down any further.
northernpike56 Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 I still have to catch some southern ontario speckles! panfish would be nice too.
Garnet Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 My current fascination is surf fishing with large wood top water plugs for Strippers. Heading back to cape cod next year. I've had a stupid days for steelhead, Salmon, bass and 3 for walleye this year. Work is just over rated.
Jen Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 I have gar on my list, and I definately want to spend more time ice fishing the lakes up in the Haliburton forest...
backbay Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 I would like to go to my home town of Hawkesbury and fish muskies
Harrison Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 (edited) I would like to fish from shore more. I have spent years bouncing around the ponds in boats. I would like to use some of that knowledge and put it to use fishing from shore where I can sneak away for an hour or two with no prep work at all or expense. I have multi-speices Lake O at my doorstep, we'll see what I can do this fall when some fish move shallow. Edited October 26, 2011 by Harrison
Dontcryformejanhrdina Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 I live in Belleville but have never fished on the Bay of Quinte. Hopefully I'll end up buying a bigger boat this winter and I'll do some fishing for walleye there next year.
