Karma... it is a three way street correct?

Thanks folks!

This started out as a "big shoulder" for me, but as time has gone on it appears it's been a very valuable 2 way street. I have had a fair number of members share their cancer battles with me during this time period, including JohnF. As recently as last night a board member shared their/their family cancer story with me and the battle that they have ahead of them. He told me that seeing Jennifer's attitude, through her battle, has given his wife the inspiration to fight hers. That right there makes this expanse of bandwidth worth while!

It's something isn't it, how the younger ones face such obstacles with greater determination than us adults do. We know a girl down here, a little younger than Wayne/Leah's daughter who is having all kinds of prolems with Chrones disease as well. Surgery after surgery, procedure after procedure, and this young lady is braver and stronger than a lot of people I know.

After a tentative date was given this Thursday (of June 29th) a day later

they called her to tell her that her surgery, to remove her entire right

pelvic bone and part of her sacrum, will be on Wednesday July 6th. Nothing

is getting replaced. Chemo has shrunk the soft tissue tumour back into the

bone, but it unfortunately doesn't kill bone tumours so it all has to come

out.

The most we know at this point is she has to be there first thing in the

morning... the pre-op a week back was a blur but I think that was 7am for

admission and I'll clarify that with Jennifer later. Surgery at minimum will

be approximately 10 hours, could be up to 18 hours depending on what they

find once they start. A big issue will be whether her nerve "line" that runs

across the pelvic bone, that controls the ability to pick up your toes, is

attached too firmly to the bone or easy to seperate. They are hoping it is

not bonded to the bone, otherwise she'll need a brace to hold her toes up.

If they can seperate it from the pelvic bone she should still have control

of those muscles.

We are heading off to the lake (Temagami) on Thursday (23rd) for about

10days to hopefully enjoy some R n R.. cut the grass and all that goes with

on Island Camp. Sounds like Jen is going to take the train up to Temagami, from Union Station, on Sunday or

Monday to met us there........ as she'd like to climb the fire tower one

more time before surgery. Then we'll come back on the 4th, so we can be in

Toronto for the 5th.

our thoughts and best wishes for all of you Wayne. Great news on the cancer, but still a heavy load. The strength Jen, you and family show is a great example on how much a positive atitiude contributes to beating these curses life throws at us. What a great idea to climb the Tower! May the surgery go well and the best outcome possible be the end result.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well she set out to do something and she did so !!!

My Brother has now challenged her to do it again post-op. That one's gonna take some time, but we have no doubts in our minds she'll be back up there again!!

Please cross what ever you have come Wednesday am ..

WE will all be thinking of you guys this week. Makes my little issues seem really small. Just curious...how long do they (specialists and surgeons) anticipate before they can replace some of the pelvic structure? That is quite alot of bone mass to lose. Jen is a champ. I get winded climbing the tower.

Nothing is being replaced Nip... Once they take as much of her sacrum as they can, without hitting spinal nerves, there is no hard bone left to attach anything to.

Wow I just read back and had missed that part. I fractured my Saccrum falling while playing hockey as a teenager. I had to sit on one of them donut rings for months. Especially whole sitting in a car.

Well she's still wound up like a rubber band. Making little piles of stuff that she can instruct us to bring in as time goes on. Hopefully we can get to bed soon as 5am is gonna come way tooooo early. She has to be in admissions by 6am.

I will try to post an update here late tomorrow, but it might very well be Thursday before I can do so. The fellow that bumped her surgery date last week was 15 hours on the table last Wednesday and they had to stop and then do another 8 hours on Thursday. Hope to God that isn't the case with Jen tomorrow and the surgery gets completed in one day.

All the best wishes and prayers for Jen to come through this.

One thing that is clear in this thread is the strength of spirit that she has and huge support all around for her.

It will be super tough but you all will get through to way better times.

May your daughter be graced by His strength through the surgeons hands.

May He bless and comfort you and your wife's heart through all this.

And may he carry Jenn's spirit in His hands during the procedure to comfort her and talk with her about her fears and anxiety of what tomorrow may bring for her.

God bless

Ron and family
