Jigger Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Well? Are you planning on staying home to watch our neighbours prez get sworn in? I guess on one hand, I'd like to see it for the historic aspect, but really don't feel like losing a days wage. So I'm going to warm up the car.
Jer Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 I don't think my boss would accept that as a very valid excuse...if he did, I'd probably go fishing...
Fisherman Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Why would anyone stay home and loose a days pay. I don't see what's so historic about it, if he's the 44th, then there were 43 before him. It will be on the news at 5 and 6 and probably later. Now if you could claim a fishing day like Jer, maybe..
BITEME Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 he can talk the talk lets see if he can walk the walk am i excited or will i take time off .....not hes just a man filling a spot I gotta tell you im obama'd out i just hope we dont get hosed I'd hate to see them have to repaint the white house
ricoboxing Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Why would anyone stay home and loose a days pay. I don't see what's so historic about it, if he's the 44th, then there were 43 before him. It will be on the news at 5 and 6 and probably later. Now if you could claim a fishing day like Jer, maybe.. the historic part is that he is the first black president. well actually he's only half black... which means he's just as much white as he is black... which means you are right, there isn't anything historic about it!
diggyj Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Im kinda sick of all the coverage CNN has been giving it. Definately won't be watching itat home. Every news channel tonight will give you the complete play by play of the days events. If you have computer access, you can watch it live on CNN.com
lunkerbasshunter Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 i just hope he does a good job. Helps the economy which in return will help the canadian economy! As for watching him sworn in, how boring is that i rather go to work! Cheers!
anders Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 There's an inauguration today??? I think its a huge waste of money for this "celebration" when the economy is in the state its in. The money can be spent better i think. Hope he does a great job though in the next 4 years. No pressure.
The Urban Fisherman Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 well actually he's only half black... which means he's just as much white as he is black... which means you are right, there isn't anything historic about it! you beat me to it! I couldn't agree more. I have nothing against Obama himself though, best of luck to the guy, hopefully he does a better job than Bush did.
OhioFisherman Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Glad to see we are on the same page. I am an American and voted for him, but dude is getting a job. I don`t show up at the post office when we get a new mailman. I understand the historical significance, but just another American getting a position I wouldn`t want, too much hype too me, just want to see him or any president do a good job like they expect of the people. You can make your own call how that has gone.
tinbanger Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 1/2 or not , can't deny the history that's being made today ! Think back 50 years and NO ONE would have thought there would be a black president . Not even 10 years ago perhaps. As far as the media hype , absolutly overboard. wait and see is all we can do. As far as watching I am working from home today so will most likely flip it on at 11:59am to watch for a few minutes . TB
ccmtcanada Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Take a day off? Nope. That's what live internet video streaming is for!!!
blaque Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 What youve seen of Obama to date, like any political campaign........is nothing different than a few first dates. You act like the person you think your date wants you to be to get in the door. You know, the honeymoon stage. Once your locked in, and feeling secure.........you start lounging around the house in your sweatpants and spilling food on your shirt!
Governator Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Man some of you can be harsh. You can't possibly blame Obama for getting extended media coverage from US news sources like CNN. Personally I feel there is no better candidate to represent the world's superpower than Obama. He's by far the best speaker I've ever heard infront of a mic and his speeches bring the most uplifting words time after time. He's someone people in a tough time will actually listen to. Raf Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 decided to work from home today so that i can watch it. huge moment in history and - i'm glad i was able to see it live.
TJQ Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 He is a great orator, and hopefully will begin to turn the US around and help us follow. I think the US and us for that matter are in need of some good leaders... Im glad I saw it.
POLLIWOGG Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 If he's like our guy he'll quit in 2 weeks.
Moosebunk Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Whether you like Obama or not, think he'll do a good job or not, care whether he's 50% purple, green or turquoise... or not... ... 18+ minutes of his speech just made an unforgettable moment in history in front of the world. I don't usually care... but sitting at home today I was certainly glad I somehow conveniently got out of bed at just the right time, then flipped the channel from "Off The Record" to live coverage of a speech that is totally forever "On The Record." What an amazing showing of people in Washington today. That country should feel proud to have a leader address them with such very uplifting and hopeful words. It's absolutely perfect that in their time of economic uncertainty and divided feelings towards war, that an entire population is reminded that they are still strong and free American's who through unity and perserverance will remain just that. There was nothing on the planet that could have made better TV during the noon hour. Cynics and hopeless critics need not apply to CNN or any other media... The U.S. needs a boost, and today schools, businesses and people on the streets took time to embrace new hope. Well worth the price of admission in dollars, cause if it cost a buck for each person watching in the U.S. it sure as hizeck tasted better than a tripple mocha latte from Starbucks at quadruple the daily rate.
tinbanger Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 truly a great speaker ,caught it at the car dealer as I was picking up my car from service. Half the dealership was in the waiting room watching. And quit pickin on Starbucks Moosebunk LOL tb
hammercarp Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) At home today with a bad knee. I watched and it was great. I agree with mister moosebunk. I think that he has a very tough job ahead of him. The pentagon, the CIA, Wall St. and the rest of their institutions of power all view him as a socialist. He has a lot of enemies and a lot of their gov't institutions will deliberately do a bad job for him. Still if any one can overcome the situation there it is the American people. Over the last couple of years my opinion of Americans has changed as I have gotten to know more of them and about them. If they get their act together they will achieve the changes they are looking for. I wish them luck and hope that they succeed. Edited January 21, 2009 by hammercarp
ccmtcanada Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Yep...like Drew said...like him or not, it's still history in the making. His legacy starts today...whether he does well in office doesn't matter today...today he delivered an amazing speech.
TennesseeGuy Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Our nation hasn't been hit since September 11, 2001. Keeping that streak going will be a huge undertaking. Keep us safe. I can handle the rest of my problems.
Jigger Posted January 20, 2009 Author Report Posted January 20, 2009 We didn't watch the speech at work. No big deal. But when I got home and asked my daughter what her 6th grade class thought of the speech, she said they didn't watch it. They didn't even discuss it except for a moment when the children were counting down at 11 (she said they didn't know what time it was on), the teacher said that it wasn't time. They then went on to discuss the similarities between the aboriginal people and the vikings. What class? Social studies. They didn't even touch on the historical significance of the occasion. I've never called a school that my daughter was attending to voice my displeasure with their teaching practices, but theres a first for everything. Social studies !
BUSTER Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 I took the day off! went fishing got skunked, still better than working or watching that eggnognation
