  1. New and different from the old acid rain problem. Global warming makes oceans more acidic.
  2. Yikes. Can't say I've ever had a craving for snapping turtle.
  3. Any brands you like that have great quality and low price?
  4. Have a couple of pairs of Smiths with the polarchromic lenses (the tint changes to match brightness of day). They are definitely better than the cheapies that I used to have, but no idea how to compare with Mauis, Costas, etc. The Costa 580G lenses are pretty famous for being amazing. Two notes that may help: - bigger is better.....make sure they're big enough to properly cover your eyes/face - bronze/copper is good all around on ontario lakes, but the saltwater guys (on clear water) almost always have greens, I think. May be worth looking into that.
  5. The winch is pretty slow for a general purpose reel. You might be happier with a reel that has less power but more speed. (ie the revo tor in HS or in 5.4:1 if you can find a used one somewhere) Just don't use the giant blades.
  6. Even if you don't share with the community, Lowrance uses your data to improve their own maps.. Could be wrong, but that's how I understand it. Spend any time mapping uncharted lakes, or getting more detail on your favorite fishing spots......and there's a good chance you're passing that data on to Lowrance.
  7. why aren't the police all over these guys? Of all the things to go after, this should be one of them.
  8. What's the name of this place that's keeping your boat? Everyone want to throw in $20 each to pay this guy to keep the boat til May long weekend? I think it'd be hilarious.
  9. What do you want the guy to do? Move everyone's boats whenever someone wants there's out? That seems kind of unreasonable to me.
  10. If you get the 899, it comes with a smaller non-HD transducer. You can trade it in (Humminbird is in Burlington) for a larger, HD transducer for a fee (50 bucks or something like that). I don't know how much of a difference there is between the images, but might be worth checking out if you end up picking that one up. Edited to add -- the trade off is that the larger transducer is supposed to be a little more finicky and harder to get tuned in relative to the compact transducer. Either way it's not rocket science.
  11. Not sure I'd upgrade my entire unit if the intent is just to get SI (it's not *that* good), but if you're upgrading anyway it's probably worth it. The transducer needs to be placed perfectly (with good sideways clearance both ways) so measure twice (or 5 times) and cut/drill once. Recommend you get one of the plastic boards for the back of your boat so that you're not drilling multiple holes if you need to move it.
  12. If you make your charts available here, they're going to come up for anyone on the web (not just ofc members) surfing the web. This website is REALLY well indexed by google (probably because the content is so awesome) so anyone searching will find your charts.
  13. Lebarons. If you don't see them on the shelf, ask and they will sometimes have in the back...and/or can order for you.
  14. You're the one who brought up Harper! As for Trudeau...he seems like a good dude, but his "forecasting" leaves a lot to be desired so far. Wasn't he emphatic just a few months ago that he'd be running a 10B deficit? (and it now looks a lot more like 30-40).
  15. Further, Harper LOWERED taxes from what i remember. Wynne has raised them a few times.
  16. Dutch...I'm not a big fan of Harper, but a massive chunk of that was stimulus spending following the '08 crash. You can't hang that on him. Further - TD says that Trudeau is on course to burn through 150B in the next 5 yrs....http://www.theglobeandmail.com//news/politics/liberal-spending-could-add-150-billion-to-national-debt-td-economists-say/article28964092/?cmpid=rss1
  17. The "Province of Northern Ontario" wouldn't be able to fund itself. As much as everyone dislikes Southern Ontario, that's where all your tax revenue comes from.
  18. Try it on and move around to get a feel for fit. Try sitting, pretend-castng, twisting, etc. I have a 1-piece Helly Hansen (which is a step below what you're looking at, i think) and it's pretty comfortable once worn in.. You can also still hang the top off iwth the suspenders on (like a 2 piece), if you're too hot.
  19. You're really talented. I love the table and benches.
