Just glad the family is okay especially my parents. My dad who drives his cab 60hrs week never stopped working. He's 72 lol. He made a small fortune cause most cabbies in Hamilton took a break. Both my parents are getting there second shot Sunday👍.2 points

honestly...and I understand the privilege and entitlement that saying this accompanies because I know health care workers have been put through the ringer. People have had family members die. People are experiencing long haul complications related to this illness. But if you are asking about me personally I have lost the one thing that literally aside from my family and girlfriend that I love the most, and thats just going fishing with my buddies. Absolutely ive done my best with the situation to have some work arounds. Last year twice I quarantined in advance and after to go and camp on my friends lawn to have a mini fishing derby with the guys, but that also meant I could only fish with one friend all weekend. In the winter I had friends come up and fish with me for the day in their own hut. But seriously the old days have been taken away from me by this stupid virus. Once again im not trying to complain because things could be worse, way worse...but im tired and ready to move on. Im lucky enough to be fully vaccinated, so I can for the most part do whatever I want on my own accord, but I still have to be extremely mindful of who I interact with for their own health. This includes primarily my immuno compromised mom and my girlfriends father. I also am still not allowed to go to my best friend's trailer to fish due to their "no visitor" policy. Heres what I want...and honestly I feel like it may happen sooner then later...but to say im waiting patiently for it would be an understatement. I want...to be able to call my buddies up and say "hey lets fish this weekend" and what that entails is us meeting up wherever the hell we want, with 2-3-4-5 of us, we arrive, we gear up and rig our rods, we wake up early, we have a coffee, we go fish all day, we come home, we play some poker and talk about our day on the water with some cold beers, we cook some steaks and we inevitably pass the Ef out early to wake up and fish again the next morning. Literally, for a guy like me, this is what I live for. Its my favourite thing in the world to do and its been taken from me. Maybe Im a cry baby, but maybe some people can relate to what I'm saying.2 points

Stay in the middle of the channel in most places and you'll be fine. What are you going to be fishing for? If you want walleyes, I did real well above Dallas rapids vertical jigging spoons tipped with a piece of worm. If heading towards Dallas be on the look out for a huge rock right in the middle of the channel once you make your right hand turn off the main channel. I stick to the left side when going in, go slow the first time and mark it, then it's nothing to worry about. You'll also want to be careful about half way down the main outlet, there's a bit of a zigzag there. Again, go slow the first time and after that you're golden. I wouldn't waste my time with Canoe channel, but I would head east from the lodge and check out the rapids below the train bridge. Should be able to get into some walleye there as well (Be on the look out for big toothy critters as well) Be weary of the slot on the French, especially for walleye.1 point

Stop at the French river trading post right before your turn off to Hartley Bay Road for a waterproof map. (Not sure if the lodge sells them) Ask the guys at the lodge to put x marks on good areas. They’ll tell you hazards to avoid like tinnermans rock, rapids etc. I’ve only been a few times but had decent luck with crank baits, spinner baits and both white and pumpkinseed Gary Yamamoto grubs. There’s some big Muskie right around the lodge area. Saw a monster chasing a pike follow. Re; rocks; you sound like a novice boater. Just be careful and you’ll do ok. Ask your wife to keep watch up front. Go slow in areas you aren’t sure of. Go wide around points as points usually indicate shallows right off of them, sometimes far reaching. Watch wave patterns/splashes or surface water. Changes in water patterns can indicate shallows/rocks. IIRC, their boats are tillers without depthfinders. Watch kijiji or marketplace for used portables. I have one for rental boats and my canoe, it’s basic but tells you what water your in and can help you find shoals you didn’t know were there. (The good ones with fish on them)1 point

First off thanks for all the earlier tips , finally got her out for a few hours . First thing that was blatantly obvious was the insane amount of usable deck space compared to our Lund 1650 Rebel with the full windshield. Kids moved around casting and jigging and never once was I worried I’d be snagged by one of them lol . Boat handled some decent whitecaps effortlessly. Not sure about the baitwell or onboard built in cooler .. seemed like a wasted bit of space BUT it houses a battery now . We hit some weedlines looking for Walleye , utilizing the Ultrex and spot lock , what a game changer that is ! I’m a little late to the game with regards to certain technology but man it’s worth every penny! The Helix 10 G2N mega si is unfortunately having transducer issues, units not reading the transducer . No ideas nor did the fella at hummingbird , sounds like a bad transducer, new one on the way . NOW .. the Yamaha 70hp Tiller ....It pushes this rig great but you’ll get a great arm workout lol, it’s fun rig to fly around in , perfectly planes out . Now the fishing ..... We stuck to deeper weed lines , 30$ polarized glasses and Minnkota spot lock were key ! not the 1500$ graph that didn’t work lol ! We were ripping jigs , each kid nailed a few decent walleye on perch colored bucktails, I was busy messing around with the graph and only managed to miss a few fish . Stellar day to spend a few hours on the lake and get to know the new rig , can’t wait for the graph to function properly. Thanks again for the tips !1 point

I have written this and deleted and updated a few times for fear of seeming like I am whining or not aware of how lucky I am that I have kept working during all of this and for the most part my family and friends have stayed healthy similar to others I realize I miss people and “hanging out” over this time frame. Maybe what this experience has taught me is that things are nice but in reality health, friendships and family are what really matters1 point

This was filmed in Stoney Creek on one take. I suspect that the drone was slowed down at certain points.. I'm impressed with the flying skills either way.1 point

All I wanted was for my family & friends to stay healthy and make it thru this virus and so far so good. I haven't seen my daughter since Christmas but hopefully it won't be much longer.1 point

Check with the renter and see if they will still do the renters check list to make you legal vs the need for a boaters card. Many will not anymore, including my Sister in law at Manitoulin Resort. Boaters card or no rental, thanks to insurance liability from their provider.1 point

Just recently got my boating license from boaterexam, and although the exam part was not that bad, but the studying part is time consuming 😩. Just relieved I passed the first try with over 90% 😌1 point

Although it is strongly recommended, you do not need a pleasure craft operator card to rent a boat in Ontario. There are specific responsibilities of a person without proof of competency renting a pleasure craft fitted with a motor that include: the completion of the Rental Boat Safety Checklist with the rental boat/outfitter representative; understand the knowledge and skills given by the rental boat/outfitter representative; sign the Rental Boat Safety Checklist; and carry onboard the co-signed section of the Rental Boat Safety Checklist as proof of competency for the duration of the rental. It is also recommended that you be aware of the rental operator’s responsibilities. The above comes from this web site. Renting a boat. Like Lew. Just trying to help; don't think the site is outdated? Dan.1 point

Pretty sure the fella that owns the camp can give you a mini test so your legally licensed to operate his boats while your there....but I may be wrong.1 point

I agree---one of our greatest species we have I thought so---so much that when we built I had a pond dug and stocked it with them and some bows Was one of the greatest things I ever "had" Had as much fun feedin them as catchin them--but alas----predators and fluctuating water levels put me outta the game Great tho while it lasted---this was them1 point
