Workin' Down @ The Lake

Recommended Posts

back to Steve...............I have never heard of even a 35 pound laker coming out of Lake Ontario. I would wager a very, very large sum of money that large numbers of 40 lb lake trout will never be caught in Lake Ontario. Not to rain on your parade, just saying that this lake has been stocked with lake trout for decades, there are millions of angler/rod hours, and big lakers over 20 pounds are pretty uncommon given the amount of angler effort. Maybe a question of genetics, maybe a question of food, I do not know, but count me as a die-hard skeptic for big Lake O greys.

Just sayin'...................

Are there any published stories with confirmed weights for Lake O lakers?

True, but the previous New York State record Lake Trout was 39lbs 8 ounces, which was caught in 1994 (May 5th) - in Lake Ontario.

I see pics of Lakers up to 30lbs every year on the various boards from Lake Ontario, including a 34lbs'er last year shown on LOU.

Crap, in the last two years, 20lbs plus Lakers have outpaced 20lbs plus Kings two or three to one...at least in the west end of Lake O and the south shore of Lake O.

Not sure what to tell you Doug, but tons of 20lbs plus lakers in Lake Ontario, a number of 30lbs plus lakers....and likely in less than 10 years, some 40lbs plus lakers.

Over the years I have caught many lakers over 20#'s in Lake O.

Back in the 90's when the Ganny had epic fall laker runs due to the stocking there it was not uncommon to get several over 20 in a few hours in the evening. Also have caught lots in Western Lake O but the biggest (in the mid 30's) came off Pt. Credit in August after a North blow.

Having said that, compared to our Arctic Lakers they fight like wet socks!!! :tease: :tease: :tease:

I guess I can wait to see why you put those notches in the end rafters but maybe you can tell us why - I noticed them from the beginning - when I retired 20 years ago I built a 38' by 40' stand alone garage by myself - always thought that was quite an achievement but when I see what your doing it doesn't seem that great - thanks for posting this building project for us to watch - boy your going to be proud when it is all finished - and the location is something else - best wishes - Joe

Joe, those notches are for the outriggers. They connect the fly rafter to the roof to create the eve's overhang on the gable ends of the building.

Like everyone else has said, very professional looking work.

The thought that's gone into the detail, keeps shinning through.

I'm wondering what the completed inside is going to be like?

Man-cave or a seductive hide away that the fairer sex would melt for? LOL

If all goes according to plan, this (or a reasonable facsimile) is what it should look like when finished. ;)

Finally got out to the cabin today.

Been blowin' a gale all week. Was gusting 70+ on Friday and 50+ on Saturday.

But this morning there wasn't a breath of wind.   :)

It was a bit chilly though after the front went through.

Good run up the lake with my shiny new prop. I removed the vent plugs and it performs better out of the hole now too.

And now the moment a bunch of you have been waiting for. Time to reveal my rig for getting my materials up on the roof.

Got about 3/4 of the South roof sheathed today so I'm pretty happy.

I can lift 3 sheets of sheathing at a time with my lift.
