I'm also a firm believed in this... I do a lot of cold weather fishing and a lot of night fishing... There's not many people around to help you if things go bad... I have a Gatorade bottle that's been in my boat for YEARS... Anyone that has fished with me has probably used the bottle we so fondly call "Dirty Gurty" ... She's old and dirty and seen her fair share of... Well you know... But I've never had a close call using Gurty... Over the gunnels I've had a few close calls... I have something similar..........a old one qt plastic square jar that has a large opening with a screw on lid. When not in use I fill it up with lake water to hold it down in the splash well area of my boat. Get one at the dollar store... already has a handle to hang off the boat and more importantly to get a good hold on the container when nature calls. As for the boater, condolences to his family.
