Scugog Ice Conditions

Looked out the window this morning to see that the lake has frozen. There are a few open patches. I'm not saying go out and see how thick it is, don't be stupid people.

 

Just a heads up that it is starting, and with cold temps this week, I might see how thick it is next weekend. I will be standing where my dock is in the summer, water only up to my knees when I'm checking the thickness.

 

Sadly someone will die this year on Scugog, stay off till it is safe, don't let it be you.

Glad to see the you're back with the ice condition reports again. They were the reason why I first joined this forum.

Checked it out 10 min ago. Near shore there is mostly frozen slush, that is very weak. Depth is 1". Under this there is a few inches of unfrozen slush. It just kept coming out with the ice scoop.

What side of the lake are you on? I'm assuming east side, since a west wind would pile up the slush like you describe??

Sturgeon Lake is frozen right across in front of my place this morning. -12 right now and no wind so it may give it a chance to actually thicken up over night. You won't catch me going out and cutting holes for a while yet though, I'm way too old to take a cold bath (heck at my age a cold shower isn't even necessary any more LOL)

I think this might be the earliest year I'll be able to get on the ice if this is the case!

I've ice fished scugog on rememberance day about 20 years ago.....maybe even longer. We slayed them!

But Orr lake and little lake Barrie have been slimmed over since the weekend.

I'm trying not to get excited. Because we all know it won't last?

Heck I plan on casting and trolling musky this weekend. I know Mother Nature has other plans but I hope the launches are open. Squid and Lew have been here when we had to play icebreaker to get out fishing.

How much ice do you guys have? Was hoping to try a lake in the huntsville area before the 15th...

Tough to say chris. I live a few hours north of huntsville but we will certainly have plenty of ice by that time (smaller lakes).

I wouldn't go on lakes in the Huntsville area yet. Maybe by the 15th if the cold nights keep up and the snow is minimal.

But, I'm sure with this snow on the ground and some ice on the lake it is only a matter of time till some 'crazy' rips along the shore of the lake on a new machine.

 

One year I was walking along the shore (on shore) and saw a helmet beside some open water, gloves were on the ice beside the hole. Sure makes your heart skip a beat seeing that. Young guy with a new machine ... he got out and got the machine out latter that eve.
