Entropy Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Looked out the window this morning to see that the lake has frozen. There are a few open patches. I'm not saying go out and see how thick it is, don't be stupid people. Just a heads up that it is starting, and with cold temps this week, I might see how thick it is next weekend. I will be standing where my dock is in the summer, water only up to my knees when I'm checking the thickness. Sadly someone will die this year on Scugog, stay off till it is safe, don't let it be you. Entropy
Locnar Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Glad to see the you're back with the ice condition reports again. They were the reason why I first joined this forum.
Entropy Posted November 24, 2013 Author Report Posted November 24, 2013 Checked it out 10 min ago. Near shore there is mostly frozen slush, that is very weak. Depth is 1". Under this there is a few inches of unfrozen slush. It just kept coming out with the ice scoop.
crappieperchhunter Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Thx for the report. Sounds like first ice will be closer to a normal time this year
Sinker Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 What side of the lake are you on? I'm assuming east side, since a west wind would pile up the slush like you describe?? S.
Big Cliff Posted November 25, 2013 Report Posted November 25, 2013 Sturgeon Lake is frozen right across in front of my place this morning. -12 right now and no wind so it may give it a chance to actually thicken up over night. You won't catch me going out and cutting holes for a while yet though, I'm way too old to take a cold bath (heck at my age a cold shower isn't even necessary any more LOL)
EC1 Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 I think this might be the earliest year I'll be able to get on the ice if this is the case!
Sinker Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I've ice fished scugog on rememberance day about 20 years ago.....maybe even longer. We slayed them! S.
NAW Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) I know it's not the gog.But Orr lake and little lake Barrie have been slimmed over since the weekend.I'm trying not to get excited. Because we all know it won't last? Edited November 27, 2013 by N.A.W
Terry Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 dang, I had better get my fishing gear ready
GBW Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I know it's no the gog. It's The Bog, not gog... Me, I for one cannot wait to get out on some GOOD SOLID ICE!!!!
irishfield Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Just don't be like the two duck hunters in Wab today. One spent an hour in the water and amazingly is still alive!
Joeytier Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 We're gonna be out on the machines and drilling holes this weekend for brookies.
GBW Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 We're gonna be out on the machines and drilling holes this weekend for brookies. Just not on SCUGOG.
Joeytier Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Nope. Spent enough time on that dead swamp
Skeet2000 Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Just not on SCUGOG. No, please don't go out on the Gog this weekend, not even lying on your stomach and crawling.............still a few weeks yet guys.
Handlebarz Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Heck I plan on casting and trolling musky this weekend. I know Mother Nature has other plans but I hope the launches are open. Squid and Lew have been here when we had to play icebreaker to get out fishing.
Christopheraaron Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Nope. Spent enough time on that dead swamp How much ice do you guys have? Was hoping to try a lake in the huntsville area before the 15th...
Joeytier Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Tough to say chris. I live a few hours north of huntsville but we will certainly have plenty of ice by that time (smaller lakes).
jimmer Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I wouldn't go on lakes in the Huntsville area yet. Maybe by the 15th if the cold nights keep up and the snow is minimal.
misfish Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 cold nights keep up and the snow is minimal. Have got some good reports of 4" on small lakes. No names.
Entropy Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 I will measure it Friday or Sat and report back. But, I'm sure with this snow on the ground and some ice on the lake it is only a matter of time till some 'crazy' rips along the shore of the lake on a new machine. One year I was walking along the shore (on shore) and saw a helmet beside some open water, gloves were on the ice beside the hole. Sure makes your heart skip a beat seeing that. Young guy with a new machine ... he got out and got the machine out latter that eve. Entropy
Freshtrax Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Scary man, I lost my uncle on Sturgeon years back, Someone always goes through on the bog. Every year no fail.
