That's great Wayne, I hope for the best, sounds like she'll be better than ever very soon. -
Good morning! and a thought for the day!

Good advice -
Yeah, a lot of guys use the drop shot with a small fly 18-24" up tipped with a egg or tinny minnow, generally as soon as you see the line move set the hook instantly with a smooth lifting motion not a big bass hook set. I like super lines and feel as well but most guys use the drop shot from what I've seen. I tried the drop shot this fall for the first time with Whites and it worked good but the hook sets took time to get down, just a long slow lifting motion. I actuallly used PowerPro for that as well because it's visible and sensitive anyway, used any small flyes I had tipped with a 1-2" minnow.

They look great, probably the most realistic plastic lures I've seen, the patterns are awesome. I'm still a firm believer in action though, that's why I'll take a wood bait any day of the week (hard to find small wood baits, sucks not to many being made), not saying the action isn't good because I haven't tried them but fishermen get caught up in looks to much when the action of the lure is 80% of the deal in my opinion and wood almost always has better action, too bad more companies couldn't mass produce some wood walleye/bass lures like the old balsa rapalas. Yeah but the expensive musky lures are usually custom wood baits that take a long time to make and built to last. Here's one of the nicest realistic musky lures I've seen, but theres lot's of realistic custom jobs out there in musky world, I think guys don't really make custom walleye/bass cranks because the time involved you would have to charge $40 a lure to a walleye/bass guy so mostly it's all plastic out there, but at the end of the day the looks don't really mean much exept personal opinion the fish don't really care as much as the fisherman. Once you go wood you realize you really should. :

Amazing. Those farm boys learn how to drive a Chevy at a young age. I bet grandpa taught him how to drive the truck.

You guys are too funny. The worst part for me is that my older sister could be the P3TA Chairman. She loves watching me fish off her dock and grill a fresh steak and freshly cleaned walleye on her BBQ. Then I ask her, hows the veggie burger taste ? by the way you know your new purse and shoes are leather rite ? Another question do you have to be a feminist or homosexual to apply to P3TA ? I'd be interested to know how many straight males are on board. No offence to the awesome fishergirls, I know lot's of woman love fishing too.
-
LOL, just another P3TA conclusion, if you pay someone enough money they can come to any conclusion you pay for. Just some points I've found, think about the sharp fins and bones that they feed on ? much more painful than a clean puncture of a hook, and I've caught the same fish at least 3 times in a day on many occasions, you would think if it hurt so bad they wouldn't come back for thirds. But things do happen and can harm the fish, I would say the slime is more harmful than a hook, I've been catching more and more fish each year with infection from slime removal by anglers. As Fisherman we can do a better job of releasing ect.. but 43% of released fish dieing is ridiculous to me, I would guess 5-10% with no proof, if that, more often then not I would say they die from a deep hook set witch rarely happens to me (if it does those are the ones I eat) but for some reason lot's of inexperienced fisherman don't set the hook at the right time, this is evident to me from when I take my family out they don't fish much and a lot of the hooks end up deep but better hook sets come with time. Also the infected fish don't necessarily die and if they get caught again nobody wants to eat them so they get another life, could be a good thing for them in a way.

I catch bass everyday out of season unitentionally in the spring fishing walleye, pike ect... simply because they are everywhere and eat any bait all day, but the reason they have these periods is to let the fish spawn in peace with no stress so it is very important not to target them. All you can do really is make sure to keep the fish in the water and release it quick as possible, honestly I don't even target bass hardly at all, all year, but I bet I catch more bass then all other species put together, they are usually a nuisance to me, they are fun to catch but when your looking for something else and they steal your bait all day it gets annoying. Bass are doing very well on Gbay I would say almost too well. But try other species in other spots, don't go to your secret bass hole and pretend to target something else, for me the bass happen to be everywhere the walleye and pike are and theres nothing you can do about it.

Thanks for the pics, looks like everyone had a good time.
-
Good luck, have fun. I've seen a lot of guys using the saltwater gulp on the WFN latley having lot's of success for a lot of species or live bait is never a bad idea.

I do have a ton of stuff but lately been selling it just because I don't use it or need it anymore, I think over time every angler will find what there best at for me it's jigs. Jigs and spinners are pretty much all I use, or troll cranks, you can catch any species at any time with a jig and minnow or plastic is getting better with the scents and styles they have now. Rather than using 100's of techniques or switching it up all day I find it better to perfect a couple styles, basically I jig for everything other than musky and even musky sometimes, it just works. If I'm on a new area or lake I like to troll a crank or spinner just to find a potential hot spot then cast/jig. Give me a box of various jigs and a mix of size in the baits, plastic or live and I'm good to go with 100% confidence, other than musky but that's a different ball game.

Quality better than Quantity any day of the week!

Amazing, nice fish guys, huge laker. -
Yup, 20 feet of downspout fit snug and will last a lifetime and even drain and dry your baits perfectly. The coat-hangers are a good idea too, you basically got yourself a free set-up. This one has 25 pieces. I think theres two standard sizes of crates but either way you can see it's a good cheap storage. For spinnerbaits you can just cut slots and use 2 side by side holes.

There are so many options and different companies competing today, you can usually find both in one product no matter what you need. A lot of times something less expensive can look and function better.

I guess you all do have some snow up their
GbayGiant replied to aplumma's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, if it wasn't so mild and didn't rain that one week this winter we'd be buried in it. -
It was the lowest I've ever seen it out fishing in late November, I hope all the snow helps a bit and hopefully we have a huge rainy spring.

Insane or mentally challenged, I'm guessing the later.

It's original that's for sure. I would say it is because it takes dedication and practice just like any other, tournaments or not..at the same time it's relaxing and anyone at any age or athletic level can potentially learn and fall in love with the "sport".

Don't want to be an ass, but honestly none. Why ? log into OFC and get a new mag every day, not to mention every mag is just a little different from the next article, one day it's this the next it's that, this color, that color, this technique, that technique ect.. you read one you've read them all, the only change is the popular bait and technique from year to year. Give me a jig and minnow or a large spinner-bait for musky/pike and call it a day, sorry for the negativity but this is what I've concluded. I find the magazines are just confusing people when the most trusted, easiest, oldest, most reliable methods almost always work better than the newest trend. This is coming from a young guy that's tried every style and finally realized it's not as hard as the media makes it out to be. Really though, I get more confused every mag I read or tv show I watch. Keep a eye out for my mag in 2009. Then again I have read all the books and watched all the shows so maybe I'm just confused.

I'm guessing Bucks talking about the weather and a dump of snow, but even a master of slang talk and gibberish like myself is having trouble deciphering this language. Cheers.
-
It would be interesting to see weather it has any fact or truth to the myth, all I know is my Dad told me he caught trout on a cigarette but sprayed with WD-40 on many occasions. Then again that was when you'd be pressed to see another fisherman on the river and the fish never seen hardly any foreign baits.
-
I hardly ice fish, but basically every other day from Walleye opener to ice up, so from May 1st to Dec ? . Wow that would only be a little over 100 so to get 200 in open water season it would have to be every day almost from opener to ice on average in Ontario.
-
I'm on dial-up so I can't even watch the video I'm guessing it's just a fun joke but a simple 60% of water and 40% of rubbing alcohol solution works perfect with a soft cloth used lightly to clean your lcds for anyone wondering.
-
Insane, somebody got rich from a bet.
-
I"m not sure if you talking about the same one that's close to me, if it is then yes there's pike, perch, walleye ect...And yes you can ice fish anywhere mostly. The bad news is it's going to rain again and be warm this week, and the ice is already not to great so the ice could possibly be no good at that date, you'll have to go day to day and make sure it is before you leave. Bait ? not really sure, I know the little ones close to me are closed, theres one in Parry Sound (Divers Nook) around 30-40 min away that is open. Maybe call Champlain park and ask them, they would be able to give you more info. And the river mite be better than any of the surrounding lakes, there's big fish and many species close by.
