I always use a trusty jig for everything but, your average 1/8-1/16th jig with a 2" tube/grubs or small live minnows all work great. I'm no pro crappie fisherman but if you know where the walleyes spawn they will be in or around them very close, shallower than summer and fall, 8-15 feet seems to be good up here in spring, they like early weed growth if you find any. Or simply use a plain hook and minnow with a little bobber just off bottom always works good too.

Fireball, cool pic. I see those up here too we call them puffhaters (not sure) but it's cool how they puff their heads out like a Cobra. Daren, I'm surprised you haven't seen one up here before, your best bet is to look on the little back roads on a hot July/August day just before dark they come out and shed their skin on the hot roads, or take a walk in any bush around here and dig around enough around rock piles or brush and you'll get a surprise, there all over the islands too. No joke, they are huge. I've come across a few of those as well, I remember this crazy carpenter I was working with one day grabbed a 5 footer by the tail, twirled it around like a helicopter and tossed it in the water off the dock.

Thanks Smallie, looks good. I've been keeping track for a few years now of my fishing, but I usually only do Date, Water temp and Location. I find water temp is the biggest key for all species as to locate them in future years. I've only got 4 years logged but last year I went back to spots I caught fish when the water temp is the exact same as previous years and caught fish, if the water even 2 or 3 degrees different you might not get anything.

Wow, that looks like a big one sherriff, I 'm in Pointe au Baril too, I think it's the rattle capital, I see at least 4 or 5 a year. The good thing is, they will let you know if there around, anywhere in the 15-20 foot rage you will hear them warn you and it's very loud, the only time people get bit is if they literally step on one or provoke it. Here's the biggest one I've come across but I almost step on one every year, one struck at my mom last year in our drive way at night just missed her leg. this one was out in the middle of Georgian Bay in late October, it was so lethargic it was moving very slow and I handled it for a good 20 min, then when I let it go I lost sight of it in the water, looked at the back of the boat and she was wrapped around the transducer cable trying to climb back in. That's my thick musky net handle on the snake to give you an idea of how thick she was.

I got many bags of gulp, they are definitely the best artificial plastic out there, but out fishing live bait is a myth. Just for fun I've done some little tests and live bait has always out fished them but they do last longer and cheaper than buying minnows every day. The last one I did was ice fishing crappies and perch a couple weeks ago, I set up 3 hooks on a line 6" apart, put a minnow on one hook and the other two had 2 different gulps, and I rotated their position throughout the day, didn't catch one fish one the gulp they took the live minnow every time.

No refurb, I bought it off the origional owner with the receipt and had 3 months left on the year warranty, I loved the carera it had a amazing zoom, worked perfect untill it got damp, didn't even get wet just damp, it was in the soft case. I got an extra card and a extra battery so I'll check all combinations as well, thanks guys.

O.K., so the warranties toast but some good ideas. I'll try leaving it on the cool fresh air filter for a day than place it in a bag of rice for a couple than to the window for a few days above the heating vent and see what happens, then it's off to the oven on broil for good measure and mail the charred remains back to Panasonic and see if they can help me out.

So my new camera got wet for the first time a couple months ago, it was in the soft case so it just got cold and damp at best. I can turn the power on and take one picture that works perfect and than after that nothing works at all, but I can turn the power off than back on and take another one, only one at a time by doing this ? Anyone have any ideas or ever had that happen ? I know it's not worth taking it in to get repaired because they charge almost what I payed for it. It's a Panasonic Lumix if that matters. It only came with a three month warranty and I've had it for 6 so thats out.

Just shows you luck is still a major factor in fishing no matter who you are, you can catch a 1000 bass but you need the one or two lucky monsters to win a tourney.
-
Well, it's a little different, for every 1000 pike there's only one musky (just guessing on those numbers but you get the idea) this is why Muskie guys are so obsessed with releasing them because the population is much smaller than most other fresh water species.

I'm currently looking for my first high quality polarized as well, I've narrowed it down on ebay. You can find many for under $100, under $50 depending how high you want, that are worth 2 or three times that retail. Lot's in Canada as well not just US on there to save the hassle of shipping through customs.. Bolle Serengeti Oakley Smith Spy Arnette Maui-Jim Ray-Ban Coasta Del Mar Any of these brands have many options in Polarized, I'm personally going with a Photochromic Polarized lense in bronze, brown or grey. All of those brands above are high quality and usually half price more or less on ebay.

Lot's of good guys on here, amazing Scott. It's one of the only sites I know of that you can actually trust someone you don't even know and never met before. Wayne's one of those guys too, that's why it came back too you.

You gotta set up a camera pod (usually to fit in the front seat hole like LEW showed me a while back on here) or set it on the bow and kneel down with the fish and set the camera timer, practice at the dock a few times to know exactly where to stand. A friendly boater would be better if one did come by. I always think of this too because I've been there , considering I musky fish alone 90% of the time on GB. Set Timer/place camera Grab fish from water Quickly get in the spot Back in water All while shaking and more excited than Christmas day. I hope I get to try it this year with one like that. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^I guess I type a little slow.

What are you fishing for with 4lbs test ? pan fish ? I use to be the guy at the river with 4lbs leaders catching Salmon, have no idea why I used it, I don't even trust 4lbs anymore for a lazy hook set without it snapping. I usually just do a double uni as well, never had any problems with line twist or failure in the knot. honestly if my line breaks it breaks half way up the leader 90% of the time for some reason, never at the knot, you would think it's the weak spot at the knot but it never fails. Only time I use a swivel is when i have to stop a sliding weight ect...

shimano crestfire vs. abu garcia 6500c3

The abu is a Work Horse, the Crestfire is a good door stop. -
Every manufacture varies, so you really have to just feel them in the store to decide what you need. For Walleye you're better off with a medium or medium light rod. Also the heavier/stiffer the rod means you can use heavier lures and lighter rods = lighter lures, it's really all about matching the rod to the lures you'll be using. You say you already have a Heavy and a Medium Heavy action so I would just get a nice Medium action rod for that last reel and you're good to go for all types of fishing. The medium will be better for Walleye or bass fishing when you're not in the weeds and you can use that Heavy action rod for Pike fishing and small musky baits as well.

Nice stuff.

Various sized jigs a bucket of minnows, can't loose, or a worm harness is hard to beat.
-
I could as well.
-
I'm a jiggin guy, I'd add some big 5-7" Gulp baits or just live bait (suckers) specially in the cold water.
-
It's funny but for a fisherman, the best times are usually early spring and fall when the prices are cheaper but the weathers the worst. The lakefront for a extra $75 is a new one too me but I imagine it's the nicest/biggest cottage as well so that could be why.

A couple of days fishing in Sunny Arizona.

Nice fish Garry, I wish I was there this snow is driving me nuts, the scenery looks amazing with the mountains in the back. -
Yeah, it's usually not bad but if those damn brokerage firms hit you it's ridiculous. I've honestly had shipments where the brokerage charged me more than the actual duty ? they pay the duty without asking you and then charge you 150% on top of the duty. I have no idea how they get away with it, must be bank owned businesses. I usually just add 13% to the final total of the purchase and figure that's what will be the final price when I get it at my door or close to that and decide whether it's still a deal at that price, sometimes customs miss it and you pay nothing, but not to often.

Going fishing in front of a Nudist Camp tomorrow.

Which head was the toque on ? a guy can get serious frost bite out there. If anything the guy probably didn't look to threatening after that little ride out on the sled with a minor case of shrivelitus. -
Ha, that things huge, probably stretches to 3-4 feet in the water, I'd say better for pike /musky. I have had a 16" walleye eat a 10" believer though, so you never know.
