  1. I think I remember seeing that. Yeah they look cute as a button, but I wasn't going to attempt to pet him. But I had the camera only a few inches from his face and he was being calm.
  2. Apparently I have a new friend and he likes Walleye carcass. It's funny my grandma was telling me of these things a couple weeks ago that turn white in the winter and I had no idea what she was talking about, then I woke up today and seen this guy digging around in a bag from two days ago that had a couple walleye remains in it (must of forgot to take it to the dump, lol) Is it a weasel or mink or martin ? I have no idea, first time seeing one but he is a vicious little meat eating creature. He had no fear of me at all, I could have kept him as a pet but he might bite my finger off.
  3. That's Jabba the Hut.
  4. Thanks, I never seen any hatcheries or read about it before. I guess my bait is usually to big for these guys so I usually don't catch them this small, but it's good to see them in the river then.
  5. Yeah, I don't really know how big the average yearlings are but this picture makes it look bigger too and the other one I caught was half this size, pretty much the size of the chubs I was using.
  6. Well a little off my PB, this one was around 4.5" and a smaller one was around 2.5". I've caught three of these little guys all last week in the river. They look like they just hatched a couple weeks ago ? do you think the walleye are spawning twice or what ? or do some spawn this prematurely ? I've never seen this before or caught any this small period. They ate minnows the same size as them.
  7. Nice one, another big night pike, I guess ofners are putting that myth to rest this year. Looks clean.
  8. Yep, I have no problem pulling them in on a medium walleye rod, but it would depend on lure weight/reel size/line diameter as well, I think a MH to H bass flipping rod 7-8' would probably be the best all around pike rod, I find musky rods are way to heavy even for the biggest pike and a medium action walleye rod can't handle heavy lures. So if I had to choose one I'd go with a MH or Heavy bass flipping rod or I'm sure some companies probably make Pike signatures, not sure but they would be similar to a flipping rod. When you say medium it all depends because they always vary in strength, like a bass medium, walleye medium and musky medium are all way different but basically a MH bass would be good all around.
  9. Have a good one Lew, mines in two days, pretty close. My best friends was today as well.
  10. Very nice, congrats. Lure looks like a "loke" natural perch, can't go wrong with that.
  11. Yes please. I was down there when I picked up my motorguide at backwater last year for the first time, looked like a real nice area. I was looking at some of Brians fat muskies, some biggins out there. I asked him for his gps cords but he wasn't interested (jk).
  12. Yeah, I've only caught one other little pike that I can remember at night. Maybe she was confused because it was so bright outside with the full moon, and it was really low and the sun just went down ? the moon could have been the biggest factor and gave her a little better sight to see the bait ? I'm not sure but I'm starting to believe in this full moon phenomenon that people have been talking about:D . It's weird though because a guy in another boat the next night caught a pike at 8pm, so I guess they do every once in a while.
  13. Great stuff, always entertaining to read.
  14. Nice fish guys. What lure and how fast were you trolling ?
  15. Yup it was a bright one, I wish every night was like that. For sure, let me know.
  16. Very nice, those are some beauts, congrats on the first, I'm sure it won't be the last, you'll just be more addicted now. Zib, that's crazy never sen a fry musky, but look at the colors, perfect.
  17. Way to go fellas, good pics, I miss the river chrome, this brings back some memories.
  18. That's amazing, never seen that many in one spot before. It's cool how you can see the color differences on each fish when there side by side like that.
  19. That's classic Lew. Get those tickets.
  20. Thanks guys, I'm waiting for the next full moon now. Should be a cold one, I think I was out on the December one last year, gets a little crisp.
  21. Well it has been good fishing lately (finally water cooled down) What a great night, the moon was so bright no lights were necessary, the water didn't have a single ripple and I was the only boat on the water (at least where I was fishing) I haven't been skunked all year(knock on wood) I thought tonight was going to be the first, up until dark I hadn't a single bite so I was getting a little worried. I had my trusty jig and minnow combo ( I rarely use anything else anymore it just works) sticking to the basics. I thought I had a snag, but then felt the head-shake of what ended up being another Northern 43" same length as the one in my avatar caught a couple weeks ago but much fatter caught near the same spot, could have been the same fish ? but she had the fall belly. This time she took me a good 10-15 min to get her in the net with the 8lbs mono leader on 10lbs power pro I didn't want to force it to much, the release shot came out good the timer one didn't come out at all, but off she goes into the moon rise. Still no walleyes, my intended target, but the last 5 nights I've been out I caught my only fish at 8pm like clock work, it was 7pm and dark but I waited it out untill 8pm and the train decided to come through once again. The big one gave me the best walleye fight that I can remember, a good 10 min of tug a war, I thought it could be another pike knowing my luck. Unfortunately I gave her the club because she had a 1/4oz chartreuse jig in her tummy and I figured she would have died anyway, but nothing gets wasted and I'll be happy to eat this one. I'm not a firm believer in the full moon thing, but it was good fishing tonight. 22" released. 30" and a 16" that I took home. And the dinner shot. I made sure to get the cheek meat of the big one, that's the one good thing about big walleyes.
  22. I said " I wonder how many Americans do this ?" not, I think every American does this. It was just a hypothetical question. Just to make it clear I don't have anything against any Americans for the record, other than this guy I was speaking of and any other poachers. He was American and I made it clear in my post, that's true. I apologize for offending anyone, that really wasn't my intention, I understand I should have singled out the poacher not an entire country.
  23. Yes Canadians still break the laws too, but on a hunting/fishing vacation in another country you would think someone would respect the regulations, I wonder if this guy would have done the same at home ? Maybe, maybe not. I would have posted this regardless even if he was Canadian. Just stirring the pot. The American OFNERs are all good people. I would feel the same way if a Canadian was poaching in the US. That was the Yanks weapon Wayne.
  24. I wasn't fishing today but was just talking to the MNR 30min ago at my parents store, he didn't give any details. He said the guy was American, anyway the opp and MNR confiscated a black bear and his weapon, and gave him a $500 fine for a first offence. I guess someone called it in, and when they (mnr/opp) got there this imbecile was still fishing in the river with a illegal black bear beside him in the boat. What are people thinking ? I guess some don't think at all. I think he got off easy, first offence is just a slap on the wrist I guess. I bet if he was catching any fish he would have kept over his limmit as well and who knows what else this clown would do. This area is 80% Americans that hunt and fish, I wonder how many of them just do what ever they want because they think were just dumb Canadians and they think they can get away with it.
  25. Good point Roy, ya a crome shiner is always good to since it would reflect all colors.
