  1. Being licensed, In all honesty guys, unless you are licensed to be working on a gas appliance, i would not recomend it. It can lean toward unsafe operating conditions and potential further expenses. Some gas fireplaces come with a ppilot assembly that you need to replace the whole thing as opposed to replacing the pilot tube, thermocouple or thermopile. The potential for more damage while replacing parts is great too, if you don't know what you are doing. Please call a licensed contractor or maybe a local guy can check it out for you. I'm not trying to drum up busines lol just trying to keep people safe.
  2. Looking at getting one from a friend for free. Its an older one that has to be wired to the house. Have an electrician ready to do it. But my wife is holding out because of the possiblilty of bigger bills. what kind of energy consumption am I looking at in terms of electricity, is it going to make a huge spike in my bill?
  3. Most hrv's work a lot better interlocked with the furnace fan. I agree with the humidy being directly related to the outdoor temp, but try telling a customer to follow those guidelines The Venmar units are fantastic particularily constructo model
  4. I would highly recomend an Hrv in any new home, Code or not. The exchange of air will remove the humidity. I have a friend of mine whose windows were constantly running(older home) Installled an hrv for them and now the moisture level has droped considerably! A house should be somewhere between 35 to 45 %, A little more if you have hardwood. Another thing to check is the venting for your furnace if it is a high efficeincey. I service call i went on, the alternate plug for the furnace was not in correctly, allowing the products of combustion back into the house, which too contains moisture. If you have any more questions drop me a line and i'll see if i can help.
  5. we had the same thing here in ottawa about this time last year. Very sad, my heart goes out to the family.
  6. There are several different ways to install an HRV, one being a dedicated system and one being non dedicated. Dedicated is having all bathroom vents and kitchen attached to the system and interlocked with the furnace blower motor. A non dedicated install would be installing to the duct work itself. The ideal way is dedicated system, but non dedicated is good as well. This can be interlocked to the furnace as well.
  7. I work in a trade too, and if the guy beside me is drinking or incapacitaed in some way, you bet i am going to get him tossed off the site. I want to go home to my family in one piece.
  8. he actually ended up giving it to the americans guys in the cabin behind him, who ate it for breakfast
  9. He was on a liquid diet all week lol
  10. All they fished with all week was Ray with a white Senko and white crank bait and Dave used a white spinner with a white mister twister on it. They were hitting pike, walleye and bass, same 300 yards all week. I go out with them and i get nothing> lol had better luck off the dock!
