Nice Painting. So does anyone ever win who chooses NO for the mailing list option on the entry form.

Nice catch. I imagine the twilight bite will be slow to non existent but giant walleyes like to sit in with the pike so you never know. I guess they bite in the afternoon in colder months and ice fishing because it's the warmest time of the day and the water warms up a couple degrees, I find 11am-3pm is best but have caught lot's in the morning as well. I caught a pike same as my Avatar at dark in October but that was rare it was only my second night pike, and I remember a couple other guys on this board caught some at night this year but it's rare.

Damn, I thought Izumi and Real Fishing would be number one. Honestly I like Extreme and Fishin Canada, at the top of the list for me next to Bobby, Mercer's Fishing Facts and Musky Hunter. As for the music and sound effects I think there trying to appeal to a younger/middle age American audience, personally I only watch the shows to see the fish being caught, witch are the real stars of any show anyway. One show that drives me crazy is Cronzie's show where he waists three quarters of the show talking about shore lunch, lol, and then theres that American show (I forget the show, think it's Lunkerville) the guy breaths heavy like he just ran a 100 metre sprint every time he gets a musky or pike, lol, but all in all I like all the guys but all the shows are repetitive and have the same advice over and over it's just whats new each year for lures, so once again I watch for the fish being caught anyway, they all have their flaws like everyone.

Just got home. Email sent.

I want in ! I could try the swim baits or spinners out, I don't see any pics on the site but those are what I could give a good go. Or the "Counter Strike" in the cranks.

Yep action over paint any day. It's funny over the years making wood baits (only 3 or 4 years so far) You have to water test your baits before paint and epoxy to make sure they run true. I've caught a couple pike and had some follows by musky with nothing but a wood paint job. And if you go to lure building sites lot's of guys report this all the time, and in reality 90% of fish have a white bottom so really pretty much every lure should have a white bottom with green and black for most species, but hey it looks good and gives guys confidence so it can't hurt. I just looked up, good point Robin, lol.

Top 10 OFAH Fish in Ontario Out of Doors Magazine.
GbayGiant replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Yeah those are some crazy fish at the top, 53" pike, 36" walleye, those are some monsters. Seeing that picture though, that is one long pike. Nice fish guys. -
No worries, Keith on ExtremeAngler I think it was, he was eating the gulp baits, chewed and swallowed them.

For me the diameter is a big plus, using a 20lbs braids compared to 6lb mono means less lost fish, specially if you hook a surprise pike or other huge fish. The floro leaders typically larger than you would use in mono as well because it's invisible anyway so I usually match it up to the braid in weight. As far as the knots, they should never fail either if you tie a good knot, I've never had one fail to this point. The biggest thing for me is the sensitivity though, considering I jig and cast 80% of the time, but I like to troll with it too other than down rigging or planner boards. The price is really cheaper if you think about it too, I got some reels going on the fourth year with no problems, just rotate it every year. I use powerpro or spiderwire.

I have used a Induron 400 for the last 2 years, has some plastic in it, it has stood up but I use it on lighter baits once I realized it was a little more fragile compared to a ABU. If I had to choose I think I'd take a ABU instead if you can get them for the same price. The Idurons would make for a sweet Pike reel (the 250 or 400) or Lighter/Medium Musky baits from my view after a couple years.

Whoa, what a beast, nice catch, she was probably stuffed to the brim with eggs, nice release.
-
I like them all, I usually use mixed chubs 3-6" untill late fall I switch to big shiners, they die to quick in warm water, dead minnows are great too but it's good when they stay alive a little longer.

The top floor, just below the penthouse or outside on the roof ?
-
Hopefully I'll make it down next year, I'm glad it was a success.
-
Yeah I agree, lot's of duplicates, but who knows how many he harvests, the fact he encourages keeping them is what gets me, but anyway it looks likes he's on the lower French, not far at all from the mouth of the bay.
-
Yeah I should have remembered. I have a case of attention deficit disorder and short term memory loss, this was a self diagnosis but I'm sure the doctors would agree, I pretty sure the Alzheimer's will kick in around the time I'm 39 at this rate.

Sorry bud, maybe I got confused with Daplumma and Applumma, I thought you were one of the elite OFC catfish slayers. All I know is if I could find some more of those 20lbers I'd be all over it, nice fight.

White or not you know what I ment as we in Ontario only have one kind, it says white on his site that's what I went by. I don't claim to be a Sturgeon expert that's why I'm asking so many questions, thanks for clearing that up Roy. Should have know this guy has no clue because they are in fact Lake Sturgeon.
-
So do you know if Misha Rapids are on the upper or lower French ? that's where this guys lodge is/was catching Sturgeon. I've fished Nippising , Sturgeon and the French but not too familiar with everything, didn't realize Sturgeon river was that big but I have fished it one time, nice spot.
-
Thanks Randy. Those pics I posted were from 2006, I didn't look at the regs but I'm glad they changed it then and glad I didn't go try to catch one. What about the lower French and the upper sturgeon rivers ? and are you not allowed to fish for them period or do you mean they have to be released ?

Carp-Do people really throw the fish on shore as fertilizer
GbayGiant replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
Well it's not just carp that make a good fertilizer, technically any fish would work the same, but I agree that carp are more harmful than good in the fishing world, plus there numbers grow rapidly and they grown in size fast and don't have many predators, at some point they have to be controlled, specially if those huge Asian carp get into the great lakes. -
HA, I know your a catfish guy, I got my personal best off the dock a couple years ago only around 20lbs but it was a good surprise because I don't fish them but I was hoping it was a 20lbs walleye. There's a guy I know who fed me a rumor of a Sturgeon hole where they use to be caught, we'll see, maybe I'll try for a day this year, the good thing about the bay like you say is that I'll probably still end up getting a pike, musky, carp or catfish dragging a dead bait for sturgeon.
-
Very nice Pike. We'll see how much he likes it after the taxidermy bill. Maybe dad will help out on that.
-
Yeah, I have always wondered that considering "Sturgeon Bay" is rite here, I know they use to be in there, my grandpa told me he caught 1 of them and seen a couple huge ones swim by over the years by accident when he was young the last time being in the early 60's. I haven't herd of or seen anyone catch one since I've been around fishing. I always want to try, but so much water and no signs of them discourage me. I wonder if the MNR has seen any, they are up here every year netting Muskies for research in Sturgeon Bay. The muskies up here wouldn't help to much if the Sturgeon were reproducing. but then again there doing ok in the French with the same muskies. Another crazy thing about this guy. Who the heck are his visitors telling him that Sturgeon tastes like alligator tail ? lol...ridiculous.

So I was looking into fishing for some sturgeon this year considering I'm 45 min from the French and started doing a little research tonight on the subject and came across this site. French lodge He basically promotes keeping the sturgeon to eat because it's a delicacy, (yeah maybe because they are almost extinct in Ontario) I don't want to start a huge argument on weather it's legal or not (this is just my opinion) but I think the MNR should put a no fish limit on White Sturgeon if they are , I can't See why anyone would keep it anyway but this guy telling his visitors to keep them doesn't help and you would think it doesn't help his future sturgeon fishing either ? Just doesn't make too much sense to me, but damn it looks like the French is doing better then I thought for Sturgeon. I'm still planning on going up to try but it won't be with this lodge. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, frog legs, alligator tail anyone ? delicious.
