Nice Whities. What happened did the old man get skunked or just camera shy ?
-
Any fish is a good fish, nice job.

Very nice, hard to beat a day like that, man those are some clean healthy lakers too.

I strongly suggest getting braid. If you haven't tried it your missing out. It's not the best for every technique but 90% of the time it is, it's all I personally use for everything with a 1-2' leader of fluorocarbon. Since you like 8lbs by the looks of it, try a 15lbs braid (just thick enough to tie a good knot), it has a 4-6lbs mono diameter, 10 times as sensitive as mono and you won't loose a big fish and increase hook ups. I also fish the Parry Sound area. Another good bonus of the green braid is that sometimes you don't even feel a light bite or a fish running away with your bait but with this line you can see it move unlike a clear mono, that's why I don't even watch my rod tip I watch the line. Since the first day I switched to braid theres been no looking back, it makes a huge difference. (This should be a commercial, lol) Stick to the mono on the rigger rods. Spiderwire or PowerPro are my favorite brands, usually moss green color works great. PowerPro, Spiderwire reps ? feel free to shoot me some free line, give me a PM.

I'm guessing 45-10 for the Pats, not much of a game, but the Pats are going down as the best team ever or the Giants can take the biggest upset ever, so it's interesting either way.

I respect the kids, other than that I'm a big fan of vulgar profanity mixed in with intelligent vocabulary, just add a curse word every now and then for added emphasis. Personally I'm uncomfortable around people that don't swear at all. Go figure ? I guess it makes me feel like there to up tight and have no sense of humor. If you notice one thing almost all comedians have in common is that they like to curse. Swearing directly at somebody is another story.

Switch to braided and go up to 8 and 10lbs instead would be my choice, like others said it's just line not worth the hassle to worry about it.

That's a monster, good stuff. She made it, takes a while. This is the stuff that makes me daydream all winter, can't wait till opener.

Yeah, no doubt, it's just ridiculous is what I was getting at, so obviously that means politics are involved. Perfect example is how I confused myself and I even got to make my own question, lol. I meant it like this (10x3) + (5x6) divided by 2. The kid was unaware.

I'm not sure, I think it's 30. LOL.

So I was looking at the Dave Mercer behind the scenes contest and seen this. It seems like every contest since the beginning of contests have done this, just wondering why, what does it matter ? Could you imagine winning and then getting the question wrong, talk about breaking a guys heart. Do they really care ? is it just to make sure the winner isn't illiterate on TV, lol ? I just don't get it. what if it was a young kid that was just daydreaming, exited and couldn't answer it correctly ? Operator : " Hi, is this James ? " Kid: " Yes I'm James " Operator: " You just won the Fishing contest " kid: " Mom, Mom ! I won, I won, Oh my god I can't believe it, this is the best day ever" Mom: " Won what sweetie ? " Kid: " The fishing contest " Operator : " James, are you still there ? Hello." Kid: " Yes I'm still here " Operator " You have to awswer this time-limited mathematical skill testing question first OK ? " Kid: " What do you mean ? what question ? " Operator : " What is 10 times 3 plus 5 times 6 divided by 2 ? You have 1 minute to answer starting now " Kid : " (*insert Jeopardy theme music) " Ummm, Ummmmm...... is it 20 ? " Operator : " Is that your final answer ? " Kid: " Yes " Operator : " Oh, I'm so sorry James that is incorrect. What we are going to do is mail you a free tackle box for your cooperation, once again I'm sorry. Have a nice day. " Kid : * Insert your own ending. Could you imagine ?

I love my loomis imx rod, it's my favorite rod but I could only afford 1, lol, sometimes you get a dud. One thing that can do that is a nick from anything just tapping or hitting the side of the boat, sometimes you wouldn't even know but that little pressure crack will snap the rod on the next hook set. I could hang a 25lbs dead weight off my medium imx rod out of water, literally. Then again it's hard to justify their prices because there are so many rods that are almost or just as good for half the price and since there mostly 1 pieces the shipping will kill you on a return for warranty issues sometimes it's not even worth it. All that said, at the price they charge it should be no hassle over the counter free replacement. I had a Fenwick break on me at the 2nd eye last year and asked them if I could break it in half to save shipping and they allowed me to. So instead of $35 it was only $10 to ship and get replaced. Now let's not talk about Canadapost rip-offs.

I use a medium st.croix 30" for everything from lakers, pike, walleye and perch, love the thing, it's pulled in 20lbs pike no problem and sensitive enough for perch, perfect for walleye. I find ice rods vary a lot though, one medium is another brands heavy or light so it comes down to quality just like any other. I think the st croix I got is IM8 graphite just like a regular rod it's amazing how strong and sensitive they are for the size, so I say just spend a little more and get high quality, I think it cost around $35 each for them so it's still cheap for a top quality ice rod.

MAXI - MATE tackle box... where can you get them?
GbayGiant replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
Wayne you could make your own, this is all you need. -
Hey Mepps I seen your avatar picture on the WFN commercial today...nice one. I would go with 2 big game abu's 7000 as well. The Luna gets the best reviews from a lot of the big musky boards even better than the Calcutta some would say but I've never tried one and as far as I know the St Croix is the exact same reel as the Luna, made by daiwa it just has a St Croix sticker on it so those are the same. Another reel is the Okuma Induron 400, I've had one for the last two years, it has some plastic but it's cheap and works good.

I sold almost all mine, just because I don't really use them. For me I would rather twitch a crank bait, you can still get whatever depth by using a sinking crank or floating, too me it has way better action than most gliders.

Thanks Vanselena and others, good info. I have always used stabalizer at the begining and end of season. I use the gas quickly so never any problems during thre season, but i guess its the best quality this year, I can see it being 1.50 +/ L this year, should be fun.

LOL, nice report some nice fish too. I have dropped two cell phones in the water so far and they both came back to life, amazing how they do that, my digital camera got rain on it and broke. -
Interesting, I'll have to read up on it. Great, another extra 10c a litre this year, can't wait.
-
That's too bad, I wish his family the best. He made some of the best baits ever, those things are amazing, almost to pretty to actually fish with.
-
My dad was saying something about having to use premium gas in boats this year because regular is adding ethinol or something like that, can't remember exactly what he said ? Is this true ?
-
Thanks guys, good info. I just found the old motor manual it says 13.25"-17p as well, so I'll just stick with that and have no worries .
-
Thanks Art. Wow, I checked that site but it's crazy the results came out as 13.5" , 23 pitch but the latest models it does is 2000. That's a big pitch difference, I guess I'll stick with the old size.
-
Any prop experts on here ? I need to get a new prop for a 1991 70hp Merc. The old one was 13.25" and 17pitch. Does it just have to be the same 17 pitch or both. Could I get a 17pitch 14" for instance ? I'm just trying to figure out my options.
