  1. Since they have an Open Season all year they were probably legally hunted but disposed of in an unethical manner..
  2. I have to say.. Yellowknife is beautiful and I really hope to visit my cousin up there next year..
  3. Watch the parking regs. The township of Georgian Bay to the south does not allow roadside parking and signage is minimal to non existent. You will get a ticket... I don't know if Parry Sound is the same..
  4. My cousin, his wife and 2 kids are participating in it. His son was filmed for a segment to be aired this weekend...
  5. Depends where you live.. I am minimum 2 hours from any ice and that's if I can get through Toronto without slowing down..
  6. We have coyotes at work.. they will stand and watch you but so far they haven't bothered anyone... with close to a 1000 acres there are plenty of areas that they can hunt for rabbits, cats and geese when they are nesting. Thankfully they are relatively small and don't seem to have interbred..
  7. So far this year I haven't even looked at my ice gear. It isn't looking too good for the rest of the season either. We don't even have frost really because I was able to put up a temporary fence to keep the dogs out of the worst of the mud.. the rebar went right into the ground without any hammering..
  8. Scary stuff.. and yeah it can happen anywhere. Surrounded by water may give a false sense of security. We have boaters living all year round in Hamilton too. I'm surprised that I haven't seen any out of their slips.. only commercial crafts are moving around..
  9. Except for my pay.. I have lost a good portion of my buying power in the last 10 years.. a new boat is out of the question..
  10. So that's what a real winter looks like.... lol
  11. We regularly get yotes at our back fence. They will also try to lure domestic dogs for an ambush.. I don't know why they have evolved to weigh as much as 50 pounds without interbreeding with either dogs or wolves.. most would weigh in around 35 to 40 pounds..
  12. My cousin works in Yellowknife and hes been posting about the cold as well..
  13. Tonight at work we had a potluck.. porchetta, meatballs, cannelloni, fruit and veggie trays and piles of desserts... and since I'm going to be a bit of a zombie tomorrow we're having the traditional turkey dinner on boxing day..
  14. We are humming along.. I spend quite a bit of my breaks studying Google earth. I think I need to order a map of Nipigon for my possible spring trip...
  15. I totally disconnect on my trips to Greenstone and the only way I talk to home is through my OnStar calling feature in my truck. It satisfies my wife's desire to know that I'm still alive...lol
  16. I basically bought a new truck just for a reliable ride on road trips. Its been to the east coast once and Greenstone 3 times which is about a 2800 km round trip. My wife won't go past Orillia but shes fine with the east coast. This coming spring I hope to be heading up for a Nipigon fishing trip and then moose in the fall. Hwy 11 has changed a lot in the last 20 plus years of going up as many small towns die.. This past year saw the Husky on Hwy 11 in Geraldton close which surprised me... We stay in Jellico while in town at a house co-owned by a high school buddy and another fellow I've known for 25 years owns a place the next street over..
  17. Up on Hamilton mountain there was heavy, wet snow but down in the lower city 5 minutes away it was just rain.. my driveway will be a skating rink if it freezes..
  18. I bought the Suzuki 2.5 four stroke - liquid cooled.. beautiful motor.. propane certainly has advantages but not enough to convince me..
  19. I can't afford the fly in trips so I prefer a semi isolated off grid trip. I know of some lakes accessible by ATV that are pretty good for Walleye and Pike. My fall fishing and bird hunting trip was 9 days long and the cost was less than 500 bucks... With any luck I will be hitting Nipigon this spring in a remote cabin looking for big trout and pike..
  20. Unless you fill your own little tanks it could be very expensive for fuel.. of course refilling comes with some dangers if you aren't careful..
  21. The internet is great isn't it?. It's scary that so much of our information is out there for the taking.. especially hunting and fishing stuff.. it's a shopping list for criminals..
  22. Did we trigger the millennial?.. go to your safe space and colour..
  23. I find the neoprene very comfortable and light but they don't last long for me..
