  1. What kind of wood is the best for whitefish?.. I would think maple or apple/pear would be good rather than hickory but I haven't tried to smoke one yet..
  2. I haven't really found a great method for ribs yet but for salmon I use a simple water, kosher salt and brown sugar brine.. I found that apple gives the best flavour for fish along with a maple syrup glaze.. All of my smoking wood is stuff I cut myself so I can choose the size. I recently tried a combination of soaked chunks and dry sawdust and it worked great.. Offset smoker with homemade charcoal..
  3. Lots going on.. Lol.. The power is back on thankfully.. .I think we have all of our shingles but a lot of damage around the area..
  4. One gust at the Hamilton airport was reported at 127km/h.. all the new homes around us are losing shingles..of course they use OSB and cheap 3 tab shingles so what can you expect...
  5. Last year I looked over the side of the boat and there was a pike eyeing the Walleye that was on the stringer. I quickly pulled up the stringer and the pike went after my nephews jig.... He joined the walleye on the stringer..
  6. I have a tiny patch of snow left in the yard.. I may pull up a chair just to cheer on its demise..!
  7. The fine seems to be in line with the offence this time.. 3 thousand dollars is a lot for too many crappie. They are one of my favourite fish but in most lakes they are actually invasive. Hopefully this sends a signal that limits will be enforced...
  8. The overnight news on Friday was saying that the truck T-boned the bus. By morning it was "under investigation" which means that the police weren't about to jump to conclusions. Witnesses or survivors may have been the ones mentioning the fact that the truck blew the stop sign..
  9. If it's the same Martin lake North of Northwind then you can't drive to it.. We made our way in to the lake last year but didn't fish it.. ATV, canoe and bush wack.. Lol.. Very pretty lake but I'm not sure how the fishing is. Years ago there was a cabin on it that I believe a logging company had been using.. The loggers fished it heavily at the time..
  10. I believe that you have to walk in once at the gate.. The Ontario government created the conservation reserve back in the early 2000's.. Bauers has benefitted for sure but I don't think they had anything to do with it... There is a limit to the number of boat caches (15) for commercial operations and 29 private, the private ones being scattered at different ares of the lake.. We moose hunt up there with a trapper ( his zone) and the maze of old logging roads lead to a lot of interesting places...
  11. Yes, you need to rent a boat from an outfitter at Onaman..I have never fished it due to the fact that we have easier access to smaller lakes in the area..
  12. An extra prop is probably on your list already.. Definitely a small tool kit as well..
  13. If you choose to go to Onaman for the day be aware that the drive up the 801 can take awhile. You may have to dodge logging trucks as well. Pasha Lake may still have boats that you can rent for the day ( they are at the 5k mark). You used to be able to drive right to the lake but there is a gate to limit access.
  14. Are you launching at Onaman River??.
  15. The new law is just window dressing.. The PM promised that he would toughen up the firearms laws without actually knowing the legislation that was already in place. When you apply for a licence under the new law you will have to list all of your former spouses going back to your teens??.. If an ex wife from 20 years ago still hates you then you probably won't be able to get a license.. Doesn't matter if you are a perfect citizen..
  16. I would say that Missinabie is a great idea as well.. Love that place!
  17. Man, I only wish I had a decent Crappie spot.. By far it's my favorite fish through the ice!!.
  18. Sadly I am on days so I will not make it this year.. So many great deals..
  19. Oi knows a little about wind, being on Lake Erie.. Not many places to get shelter there.. A lot of fishermen have learned that you should be off the water by noon if you want to stay dry. If you get to the ramp and see the slightest bit of a whitecaps, go home..
  20. Haha.. I thought it seemed familiar.. Looks fun..
  21. The kids would be walking to the bus stop in complete darkness.. Since there is a driver shortage they have some schools starting early so that the buses can do a second run to a different school that starts later..
  22. Townsend was where everyone was going to live and Nanticoke was where they would work.. Stelco still owns around 5000 acres of land out there....
  23. Very Cool!
  24. A hundred bucks plus to go to Disney it isn't worth it for me.. Especially when you have people paying a premium to jump in front of you in line.. Too bad a about the Charter guy.. That's bad business..
