  1. We can almost drive to the fly in lakes.. the roads and trails are actually gated during the summer fishing season but you can fish the off season. It's a long drive better suited for an ATV than a truck... we aren't as ambitious as we used to be and if you want your honey hole to remain great you don't tell a soul about it... that being said a fly-in is a whole lot less physically demanding..
  2. All the Lakes we fish up north are empty besides us so it feels like we're on a fly-in.. one day I will try to bushwhack into the lake that produced 60 or 70 fish for three of us in just over a couple of hours..the MNR thought it was wise to start restricting access to some of the Old Logging roads so they took out 13 culverts and bridges but you can still get in by ATV..
  3. I'd love to do a fly in but finding 3 other people that are reliable enough to commit could be a problem for me. Not to mention the cost.. my trips consist of drive-to locations but there are a few gems where we can get into fishing that would rival a fly-in. Total costs for a week with food, lodging and gas are around 400 each but the level of work involved is much higher..
  4. I am not familiar with the regulations but they are considered a species at risk in Ontario..
  5. I have a lot of friends that think it's all a big conspiracy. In the future it will be clearer what steps worked and what didn't and which countries messed it up. What we should take from this is we can't expect other countries to bail us out in crisis. Made in Canada really does matter...
  6. I still hope to head north in June but I may have to stay at a friends property in town and make day trips into the back lakes.. not ideal but it will be better than staying home..
  7. Sadly the competition between States and the Federal government has driven up the price of ppe
  8. Stelco is considered essential so we are working. My department has 4 or 5 in isolation and we can't find cleaning supplies or gloves. A few of our orders have been diverted to medical facilities but if they want to run they need to come up with a solution. The old Stelco attitude is on full display on the frontline..
  9. Hamilton Conservation authority is closing all parks and trails on Wednesday.. I expect Niagara to do the same soon..
  10. Mountsberg is now closed. Anyone found on the property will be charged with trespassing..
  11. The battery top is in bad shape and each time we hot idle it gets worse. Lake Erie is on the verge of a total battery failure and is currently running at less than 50 percent.. repairs are somewhere in the range of 140 million and counting..
  12. Yeah, cheap gas will definitely cost us later. Fishing season is coming... slowly..🤔😜
  13. My wife is off and has applied for EI.. we are plodding along at Stelco and we have had to convince the company to take it seriously. The office staff has been doing it for a while now but some of the managers in the plant are acting like the old school bosses we used to have. It took a public shaming for them to act. Shutting down could cause catastrophic damage to the coke ovens and furnaces..
  14. Although they may have a refund of their vendor fees I'm sure a lot of exhibitors already put out money beforehand. It was already hard for retailers there to recoup their costs and all the extra stock they're now stuck with they're going to have to sell off somehow..
  15. Close to what I'm looking for except I want a double console so that it can be used as a family boat as well...
  16. I have the 2018 version and has been rock solid. 50,000 k and it has not been babied. 3 trips to the Nipigon area, 1 to Quebec and another pulling my camper to PEI.. I will have to keep it for awhile because it has some scratches from the bush.. my only complaint is that the wheels and tires are for in town driving and not off road..
  17. If they come close just start hacking and coughing.. problem solved.. In all seriousness fishing is probably one of the safest things you could do in a pandemic..
  18. It's been a while since I have targeted Crappie and I miss it. There was a study on them years ago and the population is susceptible to collapse from year to year. As much as 40%.. The good thing is that they can rebound ..
  19. I guess because it's a national magazine they have to include areas from across the country. I would think NW ON has some of the best in the world..
  20. It's an interesting lake for sure. The Ontario side is wilderness while the Quebec side is farmland. The fish are light colored due to the suspended clay particles in the water.. Google earth gives you an idea of how vast the lake is.. I'd love to fish it one day..
  21. One of the guys I fish with up Near Nipigon gets a little excited at net time.. You would think as a former resort owner and guide that he would be cool as a cucumber but man he used to yell at how we even reeled in the fish..Thankfully he's mellowed in the last few years and actually let's someone else run the boat and net the fish although he still hates losing a fish. It's not like we don't catch a lot because we almost always limit out...
  22. My wife and daughter really wanted a rink but I stood firm and said no... it takes too much of my time just to melt away.. this year has been one of those where it would have melted before it was done..
  23. Now that's a day for the memory books..
  24. When I go to my Aunts place in Nova Scotia there's a bald eagle that follows us on the lake until we feed it fish.. not unlike the ones on Nipigon that will come when they see you cleaning fish on shore. At moose camp we have skunk, mink and whiskey jacks that show up for meals of Grouse guts..
