  1. bring a fat buddy and have him sit right up front
  2. internet search! There aren't many secrets out there anymore. On a saturday? look where other boats are. On a weekday? troll around looking for edges/structure. Remember the first time I went after musky on St. Clair...we couldn't find any edge or structure after boating away from marina for a few minutes...so we said screw it lets just troll at 6 mph til we do find something. Bam 8 seconds later a musky was on the line. My buddies first ever, thought musky fishing was a breeze.
  3. ....and soon will get off scot-free with probation I bet
  4. haha cougars. For most of us living in the city is to help out the wife and kids (schools, shopping etc) or to be close to our jobs. Once those things aren't priorities anymore I hope to find what Lew has. But for now I have found a balance...out my back windows we have other homes but out my front windows we have forest or farmers fields. We are the last house on the edge of town
  5. or turning engine to the side may buy an inch or two as well
  6. I had the same issue...garage at 19'8" in a newer house. Measured the boat/motor a wack of times before buying and was able to get a 16'8" Alumacraft in with a swing-tongue trailer. I also have to trim the motor down. Sometimes even the make of the engine can affect total length...each of them has a slightly different shape I believe, might be able to shave an inch or 2 depending on brand!
  7. hit Balsam while the weather unloaded on us. ...sounds about right. I was gonna head there on Thursday...just saw winds are 40-50 km gusts that day. Had a few hairy days on Balsam in my past, don't think I will add to that list
  8. ...haha ya it has been a few years since I was there....and that is what I was told then. Thats why I thought I'd better ask. Is it still operational? Do they actually open each day etc. I remember going there in the past and they pretty much ignored their own posted hours. I like in the old days I would just go in middle of the night, help myself, and leave some money under the coffee tin in the corner.
  9. ...better than the last lady in that regard...but the last one was waaaaaayyyy friendlier. At this point in my life I will take friendly over sightly any day
  10. Anyone know what time they open this Thursday? I once showed up before their regular hours and the young lady taught me some words that would make a sailor blush. Have been calling them but they don't answer the phone.
  11. I'm no hunter but that bear shows up anywhere near my kids I would absolutely shoot it...now if it is approaching the monster-in-law....different story
  12. a shadrap in perch flavour twitched over some weeds ought to do the trick. I have one that is all beat to heck....lots of chomp marks and many fish caught on it....then I have another in mint condition, fish seem to ignore that one....that's the one I will give my buddy when he gets upset I am catching and he isn't
  13. Negatory. But hope to get out there for 2 days the following week. Let me know how you make out even if just by PM and I will repay the favour the next week!
  14. The one at Lighthouse Cove is not the greatest....but if your boat is not too huge it should be ok. I saw them doing work on the Jeannette's creek launch (2 years ago?) so I imagine it is better than L. Cove. Personally I use the LC launch when I plan on fishing the lake and the J. Creek launch if I plan to fish the river
  15. don't recognize them but sure hope they get caught
  16. was waiting for someone to post that "honey badger don't give a ...." video. Nearly pissed myself a couple years ago when I first saw it..glad to see its still out there. The narrator is hilarious
  17. Gross. Had a "lone star" stick on me once. Read up about them and found the good news "doesn't cause lyme disease" but also the bad news "can make you allergic to red meat!!!". That was a couple years ago...still pounding back the steaks and burgers so guess I was a fortunate one
  18. Had the same thing before...spun hub. Wasn't too costly a fix
  19. Kawarthas? I don't worry about it. Always somewhere you can go. For st Clair I think 20 km is about the most I want to deal with...although direction will alter that decision as well as how desperate am I to go...and I'm usually pretty desperate
  20. Man oh man that is a lot of sunfish my kids could deep hook
  21. hahaha great photos boys. I thought Bill looked far more gruff than Lew ever did...until Lew posted his pic.
  22. I always thought it was an offense here too....isn't the wording something like "fish must be returned to the water as soon as possible"? If that is what it says, then a photo is a no no here as well
  23. sheesh. All these reports and I haven't got out once yet. That second one is a beaut!
  24. Lake St. john near Orillia used to always cough up scads of pike when I used to go there. Lake Muskoka too...chance at some bruisers
