I have to wonder how folks would feel if that crap show going on in Ottawa was happening in THEIR backyard... HH

All of us take for granted our freedom, freedom to go fishing, hunting, to travel, to have firearms, to speak, to assemble, to raise our kids in the best way we know how in God's image. You might not see it now, but these rallies and protests in Canada and worldwide are happening because some people are awake and can see something bad is happening. Evil, terrible things have happened in history. It's naive to think they could never happen again. It's crunch time. Time to decide what side of history you will be on.

It’s sad to see the damage that Russian and Chinese social media misinformation campaigns have ravaged on the populous, alas, here we are with our own people halting our economy, dying preventable deaths by refusing treatment due to a misinformation campaign, fighting one another, attempting to coupe our own elected leader, some people saying “you need to be on this side or that side” Civil war isn’t a good thing no matter what “side” you fall on. Those that really don’t have our interests in mind are smiling right now. I guess nearly three years of this is enough to drive some people to or over the edge, it’s not surprising but it’s sad to watch. The world will never be the same…I think I speak for all of us when I say that we really just all need the opportunity to go fishing and drink a few beers with our buddies and family without any consideration for anything except what we feel like catching and drinking that particular day, just like we did back in the day.

I'm fired, I've lost my job, 25 years service, 5 years away from my pension, that's how strongly I disagree with what's happening right now, I've got a 6 year old son and I want him to have the same quality of life I was fortunate to have, I'm dug in, I'm boots on the ground, I'm gonna fight this globalist, new world order crap

Should definitely be biodegradable........we no longer use lead shot for waterfowl eliminating non-biodegradable plastics should be next on the list.

my pre tournament fishing involves a heck of a lot of time staring at navionics web app on my work computer monitor. its so fast and nice to look at the maps on a big old screen.

we have not had the martial law act since the 80s. The measures brought in today are much different (I wonder if those same people who showed up in Ottawa to try to change Americn law also go to C Tire to return Walmart stuff?)

I've lost my faith in Canada and Canada's gov't and the media they control, just today they enacted martial law and are talking about seizing bank accounts, they do it slowly, calculated and meticulously, the vast majority of Canadians are oblivious to their 2030 agenda, so now we are in a state of martial law when a few cops with ticket books and a few heavy tows could easily solve the blockade, gotta wake up here people

Hit Tim Hales with Cliff yesterday. Have not fished in a rental hut since the 80's. They have not changed much since then. Warm and comfortable huts lotsa pinhead minnows and no walking and dragging all my own gear out. Action was pretty steady for perch although yesterday the smaller ones visited more frequently than the bigger ones. Came home with 2 feeds for Debbe and I. Cliff did a little better than I did. However my favourite take away from the day was just hooking up with an old fishing buddy who I have not had face time with for far too long. Thx Cliff it was a great day.

Maybe they should try the appropriate sized rubber baits on humans for a year or two before they go to market and see what the uptake in Exlax is for that period.

Well, if you insist on being obstreperous, WHAT PART OF SPLAKE DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? Maybe if you can't tell a splake from a walleye, even with an identification of the fish in question, your not having "seen a distressed fish" tells you that you need to have your eyes checked. And for your further edification, the bait was not petrified. We also caught lake trout in Loughborough Lake with big heads and skinny bodies back ten or twelve years ago when the smelt population crashed, that had undigested bits of plastic baits in their stomachs and intestines, and APPARENTLY blocking their digestive tracts. I am not a fisheries biologist, I am an angler that takes note of unusual things when I catch and/or clean fish. BTW please note that I EAT fish, quite a bit in fact, and resent your inference that I or the other folks posting on here, are members of the extremist animal rights organization you name.

Here's a study from Carleton University back in 2013 done on Charleston lake. Pretty alarming. I posted this study back then on a Fish-Hawk thread about discarded plastics and made the mistake of pointing out that it was mostly bass fisherman by far that used plastics. Well some of the bass guys freaked out big time getting on my case saying I didn't like bass fishermen and was picking on them lol. Talk about overly sensitive and easily offended bunch of guys, it was wild the comments they were coming out with. Fortunately the owner and some other members recognized that I was just posting facts and stuck up for me. Dougie I think you were around there back then. That is a Facebook link, and I am not a FB user, so I can't see it. But if it refers to soft plastics being stuck in the stomachs and intestines of fish, I reported on that about fifteen years ago, and have seen many other such posts. I used to throw away a plastic bait after it was no longer useable, like a grub with no tail, but ever since then I have kept them and disposed of them at home. Berkley GULP is biodegradable, and there may be other baits that similarly break down in water (or inside fish). If that is NOT what the article is about, perhaps you could summarize it here for those of us who are not FB folks. You can't blame this on people not getting vaxxed, that's total bull and you know it. Whether they were vaxxed or not, someone brought it there. The vax doesn't stop you from getting the rona,and you stil spread it too. I know more sick people who are vaccinated than i do unvaxxed. I'm not for or against it, just saying.....its not the un-vaxed that are spreading it around. S.

I have written this and deleted and updated a few times for fear of seeming like I am whining or not aware of how lucky I am that I have kept working during all of this and for the most part my family and friends have stayed healthy similar to others I realize I miss people and “hanging out” over this time frame. Maybe what this experience has taught me is that things are nice but in reality health, friendships and family are what really matters

JD, I was forced to leave work because of the virus, company declared bankruptcy. After almost 50 years in the advertising industry, I was at home! Made the best of it, no more driving to work . . . built a home office, my passion with typography connected with my old friends and got some leads, not that I needed them, but after all of those years I wanted to keep my feet in. My feet are in, nothing to write home about, but it still lights up my email with prospects. I have devoted my knowledge on the past, I’m working on a website to preserve Canadian Typography History. To me now, this is my goal, and it will happen soon. To all of us who have had long careers, we are fortunate and hopefully our young ones, will follow us. Besides family gatherings on holidays etc., I missed out on 2 spring trips to Nipigon. My buddies brother lives in Thunder Bay and we stay in a cabin that is pretty remote. Both are getting older and sooner rather than later that opportunity will be gone..

I don't spend too much time dwelling on what I've lost, but rather I see what my kids (8,6,3) lost during 16 months of very little interaction with other kids. I am excited that we can start to visit outdoors again with one other family very soon, and can't wait until we can have a gathering with a few of the families we used to get to enjoy spending time with. The kids need it.

honestly...and I understand the privilege and entitlement that saying this accompanies because I know health care workers have been put through the ringer. People have had family members die. People are experiencing long haul complications related to this illness. But if you are asking about me personally I have lost the one thing that literally aside from my family and girlfriend that I love the most, and thats just going fishing with my buddies. Absolutely ive done my best with the situation to have some work arounds. Last year twice I quarantined in advance and after to go and camp on my friends lawn to have a mini fishing derby with the guys, but that also meant I could only fish with one friend all weekend. In the winter I had friends come up and fish with me for the day in their own hut. But seriously the old days have been taken away from me by this stupid virus. Once again im not trying to complain because things could be worse, way worse...but im tired and ready to move on. Im lucky enough to be fully vaccinated, so I can for the most part do whatever I want on my own accord, but I still have to be extremely mindful of who I interact with for their own health. This includes primarily my immuno compromised mom and my girlfriends father. I also am still not allowed to go to my best friend's trailer to fish due to their "no visitor" policy. Heres what I want...and honestly I feel like it may happen sooner then later...but to say im waiting patiently for it would be an understatement. I want...to be able to call my buddies up and say "hey lets fish this weekend" and what that entails is us meeting up wherever the hell we want, with 2-3-4-5 of us, we arrive, we gear up and rig our rods, we wake up early, we have a coffee, we go fish all day, we come home, we play some poker and talk about our day on the water with some cold beers, we cook some steaks and we inevitably pass the Ef out early to wake up and fish again the next morning. Literally, for a guy like me, this is what I live for. Its my favourite thing in the world to do and its been taken from me. Maybe Im a cry baby, but maybe some people can relate to what I'm saying.
