Old Ironmaker
I told you this would have been a reality TV hit. Now you can show us the 2 dozen workers you have hiding in the bush. Holmes has that many minimum on any build, more sometimes. Amazing simply amazing. I'm building a small shed and that will take me a week more to finish with help. You could build it at lunch break. 16 Footer
Great job and material lift! I can see from your work you are a pro at construction. Question: Why are you using OSB or aspenite sheathing on the roof when half inch plywood is used on most new house roofs?

Question: Why are you using OSB or aspenite sheathing on the roof when half inch plywood is used on most new house roofs? They use OSB on new construction around here. Not sure why but it's plenty strong and less expensive. Maybe that's why. Also our snow loads are very low here compared to a lot of places. DRIFTER_016
Got out to the cabin on Friday night and worked hard all day Saturday before heading back to town before dark. Would have stayed out all weekend but there is a front moving through tonight and they are calling for some pretty crappy weather tomorrow. 45 kph winds gusting over 70 kph out of the East. They are the worst for my place. Coming straight into my dock from across the lake. There will probably be 3-4 footers hitting my shore. Not good winds for carrying sheathing on top of the cabin. Got some more sheathing done on the South side as well as some on the North side. Also got a bunch of my collar ties temporarily in place so I could remove the center brace and crane. I will level out all the collar ties when the loft is in place.

16 Footer
Metal roof last a long time and is the way to go. Snow will slide off a metal roof but put catch clips over doorways. Shingles don't last in harsh weather conditions and are a pain to remove / get rid of when they go bad.
Old Ironmaker
Get the OSB covered asap, it doesn't like water. You know that already. I see it holding up much better than some ridiculously thin plywood I have seen used.

I see it holding up much better than some ridiculously thin plywood I have seen used. Actually Grade 1 (exterior) OSB is quite resistant to water and can be exposed for quite a while without harm. I hope to get it all finished and covered for the winter this weekend though.
DRIFTER_016
Crappy weekend this week. Sick on Saturday, good day on Sunday and rain on Monday. I didn't get done what I wanted to but did get a little done before heading home early due to the weather. Too dangerous to be up on the roof when it's wet. Saturday I was able to work for 10 mins before taking a 30 min break. Too weak from the sickness. Got the door in and some of the exterior sheathing and tuck taping done on the front and South side. Also got half of the back gable end sheathed. Sunday I got all of the blocking on the North side rafters done as well as the eve and front fly rafters. I redid the sheathing as it wasn't working out from the top down. Hopefully next weekends weather is good and I can get the roof finished.
