  1. There was some mention a while ago that the 5 fish limit on salmon is too high. I totally agree. Who the heck needs to keep 5 salmon, esp considering their size? How many fish eating friends, neighbors, acquaintenances do you want to supply?? I don't mean to stir the pot here and create yet another "urinating contest". If there is general agreement on this, what can we do to encourage MNR to lower the limit?
  2. Pick me! Pick me!!!!( I an even provide canoes!!!!)
  3. I understand that salmon and bows run a bit later in the Bighead than other area rivers.
  4. I don't get this. The OP posted a valid fishing topic with a point of view that many apparently disagree with. Why crap over the OP??? It's a legit argument regardless of whether you agree or not. Now, bring up something like the NHL lockout and it engenders many pages of discussion!
  5. Thx. I guess I'll cross that 1 off my bucket list. It'll leave more room in my bucket for something else!
  6. Do you know if there are any speks in the section between T lake and the falls?
  7. The bridge is below the dam, right? So does that mean there are bass in the whole stretch from Dwight up to the dam?
  8. Did you catch the bass downstream of the falls? I understood that there were specks above the falls, but if the bass have gotten in there----well, there goes the neighbourhood!
  9. I've never been down the Bad River channel but I have canoed in that area quite a bit. With the small boat charts an a GPS navigation is no big problem. You could either go from Key River or from Byng/Britt. It's a bit longer from Byng but not by much.(and you get to see some spectacular scenery along the way, whereas going out the Key you're just travelling along a geological fault line with the possibility of strong West winds being funneled off the bay)
  10. I've caught a good sized rainbow in the Haliburton area on a lake that you could access with a regular car. Check the stocking records on the MNR "FishON" website.
  11. Pike are shaped like logs, so cut them across the body rather than along. i.e make steaks rather than fillets. The bones are easy to pick out as you savor the flavor!
  12. I'm relatively inexperienced when it comes to line types, but I tried braid for the first time last year and I do like the feel of it. I use a mono or fluor leader, then a length of braid as long as I could cast or would use when trolling, then mono as a backing to fill the reel. That way I get the relatively expensive braid to go a bit further e.g 1 spool does 2 reels.
  13. I really like my Canon SX20. I am used to a film SLR camera, but this one has most of the "controlability" that I ever want(shutter speeds, aperture etc) The 20 times zoom(real, not 'digital') is great for wildlife and small children.. I've had it for 2-3 yrs so do doubt it's been replaced by a 'new and improved' model. There was a newer version just out when I bought mine but most of the improvement was, according to the guy at Henry's, in 'hi-def' video, which I wasn't interested in. Mine does regular videos. If you want quality I suggest either a Canon or Nikon.
  14. I'm gonna need a bigger bucket!!
  15. Sort of like watching the Leafs play after Jan----you already know the outcome. ('cept here you at least see some real hockey)
  16. Do you happen to know anybody who has gone there lately?
  17. I didn't think there was a North River near the Saugeen. Do you mean the one in Simcoe Cty?
  18. I've cooked bass up to $200, but $500 is a bit out of my range so, sorry, can't help!
  19. If you don't mind catching specks instead of bass, Mike Solo might have a place for you near Nakina! See his report from June. It's called Seven Lakes outfitters.
  20. took the words right out of my mouth!!
  21. Aren't they the same???? (At least according to some!!!) Why would your friend play for the Leafs when he can play for a real NHL team??
  22. Not me. I am so sick and tired of seeing Mike hold up specks that I can't even dream of catching that I've been swallowing gravol like nobody's business! No more speck porn puhleeze!!
  23. Let's see if this one works! If it does maybe we can start one to have the Leafs kicked out of the league!(Maybe bring in a rule that the owners gotta at least try to ice a winning team)
  24. Water levels in the Great Lakes are available on-line as hourly to yearly data, on Am as well as Can websites(both of which get their data from the same source, the IJC. See here, for e.g http://www.waterlevels.gc.ca/C&A/wldata/colllast.htm http://www.great-lakes.net/envt/water/levels/levels_current.html I attended the IJC study group public info session in Collingwood a year or two ago. The main point that I remember is that the 2 main determinants of Lake Huron water level are the in-flow from the Huron-Michigan watershed(on the plus side) and evaporation(on the minus side). The inflow from Superior and outflow into the St. Clair River have less influence. So the level is an environmental issue, not a political one as some people like to make it(unless you regard global warming as a political issue).
  25. 40-50 for Alliston. But best to stay away. The fishing will be lousy!!
