  1. I didn't catch any female salmon so bought a pound of roe for $20. I was told it was from farm raised fish. Seemed like a good solution to me.
  2. A friend of mine has good luck with Blue Foxes. I have better luck with Cleos than I've had with Foxes.
  3. My felt sole came off the front half of 1 boot this AM. I limped around in it for a while, but not a good solution!. Any special way to reattach it? Contact cement, possibly? Thx
  4. Nope, not too many women out on the river!
  5. For bows, Little Cleos(blue and silver, or spotted) works better than most lures.(most bows seem to be aught on roe)
  6. For walleye, bass, pike---a big "O", crayfish or white. I've even hit a couple of bows on it.
  7. My Novacraft tripper(16 ft) weighs about 45 lb and moves like a sportscar. My wife loves to paddle, so when we are out canoeing(not fishing) I usually end up just steering for a while so we don't way ahead of other folks. Dana, I didn't realize the Sportspals were so light!! A friend of mine trips with one but he's very strong. He put a hole thru the hull with some 'beaver lumber' while pulling it over a big dam. Stability is a function of hull shape rather than weight of material used.
  8. Not sure about a cold front, but my ex-wife demonstrated a cold back many times!
  9. I have my own kevlar so I don't know how much $$ to rent. You'll need to google that. If you are going thru SS Marie there must be a rental place there.(In fact, even if you're not, there's probably still a rental place there) Kevlars weigh about 50#, but it's not just about weight savings. Sportspals are like barges compared to the type of kevlar normally avail for rent. So., IMO, if you're doing a lot of paddling OR a lot of portaging, it will be worth the money.
  10. forget the Sportspals. Rent a couple of lightweight kevlar ones.
  11. Well, yes and no. As a percentage, no, but there's 1-2 km of relatively fast water in the park.
  12. Must be a close relative of my neighbor!! Leaves??? I've heard the blower going all summer!! Wouldn't want any grass clippings on the grass, I guess, or have to bend a bit to sweep them with a broom!!!!
  13. Any points for correct answers here? That looks like just down from the canoe launch (in your Old Town canoe) with the fast water just ahead! When I fish this river I usually use the canoe mainly to get me to uncrowded spots, then fish from shore.
  14. Another solution---get a canoe. You can access areas that are otherwise hard to get to.
  15. I made a camping cookstove out of a piece of stovepipe. If you pick the bigger sizes of hot air ducting, that might work(Burn off the zinc coating in a well ventilated area outdoors.
  16. that's exactly what I'd like to do with my neighbors leafblower that's been going all summer with clippings etc.. OCD can be such a terrible affliction---I should be a bit more understanding.
  17. Try myccr.com, the best canoeing website in the world!(Or PM me and I can give you some suggestions via phone---I'm a 2 finger typist)
  18. Threw out the neck!! Have some pity on her. She must have dementia! Could you savw some for me. I need some dessicant for my camera and electronics!
  19. Well, you could (a) direct her to this site and possibly risk being cut out of her will, or ( be a good boy and grin and bear it and tell your nan what a nice turkey.. If you choose (a) let us know how it works out for you, willya??
  20. I'd fight you for it!! I've tasted them done either way and, as long as someone else does it, it tastes great!!!
  21. You can buy waterproof versions of the small boat charts----just cost a bit more.
  22. Naah, Leaf fans have far more serious problems than that!
