  1. I bought a 'student grade' set of teflon coated pots at W mart that included a big fry pan. I removed the handles so they pack well(nest) and use a potholder. Letsgofishing sometime and I'll show you my set-up, and you can show me where to catch some biguns!
  2. I got a treble on my Rapala hooked into my hand last year on a canoe trip. I was paddling with the rod stashed at the stern but with the lure still on the line. In the process of landing I hooked my hand. Fortunately, my friend Howard who is very patient, prepared and methodical had a pair of mini pliers in his kit. He very slowly worked it back out the way it went in----fairly painless.
  3. Wow---nothing like getting off to a good start! I've caught lots of specks but I don't think any were that big. Cast Iron fry pan? You should have asked what not to take on portages.
  4. Here's an illustration of why the 'views' can be much higher than the posts: The recent 'drop-shoting' thread interested me because I had not tried that technique. As the thread went on for quite a while I 'dropped' in to view it several times and eventually chimed in with a post. Then I naturally checked back to see the reaction to my post. So my ratio was maybe 5 or 6 to 1. If I wasn't a member my ratio would have been 5 or 6 to 0, not a huge difference. For anyone but repeat contributors to a given thread the ratio would tend to be at least 2:1 i.e. read, post, check to see reaction to post. I don't think registering to view is going to change these numbers significantly but will cut down on the number of new members.(BTW, I viewed this thread several times before making this post)
  5. A friend of mine hauls tractor trailer loads of worms from Ont to as far away as N. Dakota,(which I find hard to believe) so there must be money to be made somewhere.
  6. Illegal you say?? Well I be darned! . I live on the river so I'll have no trouble getting rid of mine----but some steelheaders might get a rude surprise in the fall.
  7. I guess bears like to hang around 'dumps'.
  8. I assume that this technique would be more effective in the summer than now while the water temps are still a bit cool. Right?
  9. But the Leafs are not a real hockey team----they're a group of golfers that get together when there's snow on the golf courses!
  10. We retired to Wasaga Beach. We love it here and think it's a good balance between being 'way out there' where med services and modern conveniences are hard to come by, and being in the big city where a minute's peace and quiet is equally hard to come by. We never would have thought of Wasaga but our friends bought here first. They originally had decided on Deep River but chickened out(or came to their senses) when they realized how far they would be away from family, friends, a groc store, hardware store etc etc.
  11. Well, I'm not one of your buddies, but if you want someone to fish with midweek let me know.----thx
  12. I guess we all have our limits and it's very subjective, but I must admit I'd keep my distance from anyone who would string live kittens or ducklings on a hook. I'd be concerned about a sadistic streak. Mind you, some folks think that about all fishers.
  13. If you strung a few mini marshmallows around the mouse's chest for a PFD I think you'd have the best of both worlds and the mouse would stay alive a lot longer!! (Seriously, though, I've used frogs once but couldn't do it again. Why it's OK to do minnows I could't tell you. All subjective I guess).
  14. Are you sure that's not an OOS walleye??
  15. We've had store bought eggs uncooked last for a week. Definitely do not cook them.
  16. Anybody try these. Would seem to be useful for steelhead, for e.g, in changing from roe bag to worm. Also would work as well as a normal snap when fishing with spoons.
  17. I've caught lams. Do they count? I would like to catch a bluefin tuna---they go up to 1000# and jump straight into the air!
  18. That's one of the most amazing pix I've seen anywhere, incl. in Nat Geo.!
  19. See, what'd I tell ya, IF? Persistence paid off. I used to remove the mouse using needle nose pliers. These days I thro the trap and all into the garbage. So, you gonna' have him mounted?
  20. I know this is a minority opinion here, but most of the 'stuff' on our TV is hard enough to watch on regular TV. With HD it would be just plain nauseating!(My wife puts on Private Practice and the other sick soap opera just like it---I have to block it out somehow.)
  21. Now, be gar, that's quite the fish. It isn't the ass that's ugly, its the snout! I've only seen one alive and have never caught one. I wouldn't want to have 1 charge me in my canoe. How big was it? How big do they get?
  22. I heard on the radio that Ont is sending a whole bunch to England for a special feast for the queen's jubilee! I suppose the English are not that famous for their fine cuisine!. The guy on radio said they could have lots more if they wanted them! I know we are all supposed to be conservation minded here, but this is a case where I'd kill first and ask questions later.
  23. Don't give up yet. It's a bit like fishing---you can't 'land' them all. I get mice often in the spring and fall. I just use the cheap traps with p. butter. Some of those traps are a bit harder to trip than others---some are so sensitive that they are hard to set. I guess the quality control on such cheap items is not the best
