  1. Wow! I'm trying to imagine your trip. You must have a big group to use so many minnows. How many people? I think we'll hedge our bets by taking a few anyway. It's not such a big hassle on a remote drive-in trip.
  2. Ok, now that we got this rant going, here's the thing that really gets me---the ones who get into the car and drive off still on the phone!! (come out of a store or whatever!!
  3. Oh, I misunderstood your topi title. I thought it was like this one: http://www.jokes.com/funny/aging/baseball-in-heaven
  4. Can never find a good Sherpa when you really need one!
  5. Thx for the tips! Keep 'er comin', boyz! So, Mike, I guess I need some painkiller for my problematic rotator cuff?! I gather that this comment applies to places a bit further north than Grimsby? It sounds like I might have to crouch down in the boat to put on bait!??
  6. OK, here's a question to get y'all distracted from the MNR and NHL talk!. We are going to a fairly remote drive-in cabin near Nakina for the first week of June, fishing for walleye and(we hope) some monster pike. What type of lures work best? Should we bother with the hassle of finding and carrying minnows? I figured drift fishing with minnows might be quite productive and give our arms a break from casting and be a change of routine from trolling. I know Mike Solo has fished up there but he seems to be able to catch fish on a bare hook in a barrel, but what about the rest of you folks? Of course, many of your tips would apply to other areas and might be appreciated by others who are looking to improve their 'luck'. Thx for your input.
  7. priceless pix! esp the first. I couldn't get my kids interested either. Like was said above, I need to catch more!
  8. Man, I'm speechless!!. What trout, what a well written report---can feel the drama! Flesh it out a bit and submit to a magazine
  9. At that age and with all that time in the bush I'm surprised that even a moose would start to look good!
  10. Apart from freezing tour butt, how was the fishing?
  11. I've seen guys fly fish the Elora Gorge for browns, I think.
  12. No kidding. What a snow job!! Seems to me that if OFAH wants to get more people on their side they would be a bit more forthcoming with straight answers.
  13. Where's the duct tape? The last time I tried towing the boat it went off without a hitch.
  14. Similar to WD, I just dust with a bit of flour and pan fry with oil. Leave the skin on to keep the moisture in. To each his own I guess, but I no more want to add extraneous flavors to a fine piece of fish than I would to a fine cut of beef.
  15. It's good to know that I'm not alone in taking a 'kitchen sink" approach to taking lure etc on a fishing trip. But what I find is that I just use a handful of the 'tried and true' or 'lucky' ones even though I have a box full(or 2) to choose from. Anyone else do the same?
  16. Thx for your continued input, folks. As my friend Dalton would say:"I have to hit the pause button for a little while on this one"
  17. Most of us already know 'how to fail'. It's dealing with it that causes us the distress. e.g.How long was it before you admitted to yourself that you weren't gonna make the NHL? I've played pick-up hockey with some guys into their twenties who seemed to think there were NHL scouts in the stands.
  18. Oh, the weather outside is crappy and no one's very happy I'l tell it where to go bloody snow, bloody snow, bloody snow. (saltier versions available on request!)
  19. If no live bait is allowed then worms aren't allowed.
  20. YP, I'm curious about your choice of lines. The std recommendation seems to be to use a leader lighter than the main line so that the leader breaks first.
  21. Trout also tend to come into near shallows and to feed near dusk. They also tend to gather at the mouth of streams, presumably because there's more oxygen in the water as well as food being washed down.
  22. In my experience the specks won't touch anything other than a fly once the Mayfly hatch has started.
