I bough a bunch of fishing stuff off Kijiji really cheap. Incl was a bunch of Fenwick fishing line. It seems to be good quality but I haven't used it much so it's hard for me to say. Anyone ever use that brand?

What does 'portable' mean when applied to fish finders? The FF posted above seems to require a 12V battery. I though 'portable' meant it would run on dry cells such as AA's.

I saw a fresh deer hide left close to the road on a trail leading to the river but that was near Baxter. I spoke to 2 grouse hunters who just came out of the woods. I understood from them that it was legal to hunt deer there right now, so I thought it was more like bad environmental practice or even 'littering', but not a crime.

Elora Gorge is a place you an practice at least the basic manoevers in a fairly safe environment. Then there's Missinabi Outfitters. They do the upper part of the river, but I don't know if they do the lower part of the river.

I'm having trouble finding a pair of hip waders in the stores that I like and that fit. There's a pair of neoprene Red Ball's for sale (supposedly great cond)on Kijiji for $80. Would you consider that a reasonable price?

I love canoe trips. Part of being a 'minimalist' could be a light weight canoe e.g. Kevlar ones can be less than 50#. But decent water shoes and/or hiking boots will make a world of difference. Did you take the geetar on the trip, or was that just at the base-camp put-in? I get mixed feelings after portaging in to a fly-in fishing lake and see the look of surprise on the fly-ins' faces.

My understanding is that roe MUST be cured if it's to be sold. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

I hope I'm not hi-jacking this thread too much, but that sort of procedure is also recommended by ins companies, for e.g., when leaving your house for vacations etc. I have done it often, but not always. I think ins co's recommend for anything longer than 48 hrs, which might sound a bit extreme. You mighr want to check with your ins broker.

I hire someone to clean mine and he does it from the top. However, my brother cleans his from the bottom but I have never seen him do it.

Some folks wear an automatically inflating PFD when wading deep rivers. (With the rocks on the Bighead a hardhat might be a better idea, lest you get a big head)
