Rod recommendations for pitching jerkbaits.
porkpie replied to Mike Pike's topic in General Discussion
I used a 7 foot 2 piece st. Croix eye con last year for lighter plugs. Matched with a Stradic ci 1000 and 10lb nanofil with a fluoro leader, the outfit is extremely light and can cast light baits a mile. It is listed as a fast action bait rigging rod, but that's just a guideline. It does however make an excellent live bait rod! I have the 7'6" eyecon as well, a little stiffer, but also an excellent value. They run around $110 a piece give or take, depending where you buy. -
Need some info on boat size vs max towing capacity
porkpie replied to hotsky's topic in General Discussion
Years ago I was limited by a honda civic. I thought seriously about it, and then decided to go with a canoe until my next vehicle upgrade, and get a boat then. If I had to do it differently now, the only change I would make is a wide square stern and a small 4 stroke 2.5hp. Almost as fishable as a tinny. I would look at the smallest Scott duck boat if it's not to wide for your roof. Very fishable, and very stable, just another idea. -
I just upgraded my motor this winter. While its certainly not a 60, my reasons where that I wanted a little more horsepower, and brand new reliability as I spend a fair amount of time on the water in the shoulder seasons and reliability is critical. Third, and most important is that I could afford it. I went with a yamaha, and I imagine I'll be quite satisfied, as I have been with the other yamaha products I own. My old motor was a Johnson that was in perfect running order, so it wasn't out of nessecity, but just good timing and the right price off season. If I had the chance and the cash to move from a merc to a yamaha, I would do it to sure! Good luck!

I've had all kinds, best I've found is cabelas gear. Either their gore tex, followed up closely by the dry plus. No suit is perfect, but the cabelas stuff would probably suit your budget!

I use original power pro on baitcasters and a couple spinning rigs that I use for trolling, and nanofil on all my other spinning rigs. I use original seauguar fluoro as leader on almost all of them. Some of my power pro has probably 8 seasons on it. I just reverse it! Works well for me!

Sounds quite reasonable, and a helluva boat! PM me if you pass on it please, I have a friend that is looking right now LOL, good luck!!
-
No advantage. I don't suppose it would hurt anything, but no practical advantage.
-
I agree, not worth the expense on a $50 rod unfortunately, unless they are picking up the shipping!
-
Absolutely right. Far too much abuse, leading to shortages for those truly in need. The lazy and immoral live off the system, and those too embarrassed to ask for help suffer!

I don't believe so. I seldom find an item I am looking for any cheaper than at a shop! It's a fun trip just for browsing, and having a look at boats, but otherwise I would just go to my local tackle guy as his prices are fair. If I lived in the GTA I would definitely go to lebarons as they always have cheaper prices to begin with, add on no tax and it's a deal. Gas kills it for me though, unless I'm buying a big ticket item!

This is what I did. Mind you, the house had been well kept and had some updates. There was nothing I HAD to do to live there. The added benefit was a 70x 160 lot with lots of room. I have to agree with the avoiding the city as well. I live in a small town, well removed from the city, my kids are benefiting from it hugely, and I can drive 3 minutes and buy fresh corn and fresh produce off the farm all summer long. Fishing is literally 4 minutes walk from my front door, and I can have my boat in the water in 10 minutes if I want to. Oh, and the people are nicer! All that said, my final thoughts to you are this: the old saying of a happy wife making for a happy life is true, fortunately I married someone with a similar vision. If she is in tears now, it will be miserable later if you take her to far out of her comfort zone. That may lead to problems in you marriage later, especially if you don't follow through with all the promises you made on the fixer upper. Something to think about anyway! -
The heddon dying flutter comes to mind!

My understanding is that location is one of the highest grossing BPS's out of the entire chain. I doubt they will close it just to avoid making good on a few warranties! I have been wrong before though, LOL.

Where to retire to - Kawarthas or Muskoka?
porkpie replied to fisherman7's topic in General Discussion
Buckhorn without hesitation. I have spent many a fun filled trip in the area, and on lower buck. It is one of my favorite destinations. Muskokas not so much! -

I'm in!!! -
It's been a long time, but I was always partial to Floyd Hales out of Beaverton!
-
I have had good success with fenwick, shimano and St. Croix. They are pretty much the only rods in my arsenal other than a couple of old loomis and a coupl of sage customs due to the fact that they have honoured their warranties in short order!
-
Ya man your blades are badly pooched!!! Buy new, keep em in good shape!!
-
I wil believe it when I see it. Students are notorious rabble rousers who generally fail to show up when it really counts. Reliable as a poncho made of newspaper in a rainstorm! It is the grownups who vote on the basis of who is the handsomest and most personable, rather than on the basis of results. Those are the ones that will see little poo elected, and they are the biggest concern. As was mentioned above, one trudea was enough for this country, another one will see us straight into the toilet like the UK.

I use the improved clinch knot for everything including braid and fluoro. The only time I use another knot is for joining 2 pieces of line together. For this is simply take the tag ends and line them up flush with each other, make a loop and wrap the 2 tags around the line 3 times and tighten it up. This works on almost any connection. The only difference with the improved clinch and fluoro or braid is that I make a few more wraps as they are a little slippier than mono!

Your not alone. If I'm renting a hut, it better have a wood floor, and walls and a serious heater/cook stove! -

I guess I won't complain about my $70 a month gas bills for my little bungalow. -
I am neither for nor against, but I do wonder why? Good flavour? Allergies?? Thanks!
