Loafers are a pita and I don't buy them. Avons aren't bad, but you need a little larger diameter tubing for them, but it will work top and bottom so I can live with it! I carry 2 styles of tubing bought in bulk. If it won't fit into those 2 styles of tubing, I won't use it! Loafers don't fit so their out!

Join canadian gun nutz and apply for access to the equipment exchange. You can find some great deals if you are patient, and they have an excellent trader rating system, so dealing with guys is pretty reliable. If you would prefer to deal with a shop, I would second the recommendation for Elwood Epps. I have always had good dealings there!

Obtaining Roe...tough to do it properly...
porkpie replied to Familyfisherman's topic in General Discussion
I'm sorry, perhaps your misunderstanding me, I am referring to people fishing 1-2 feet of fast water overtop of spawning chinook. -
Obtaining Roe...tough to do it properly...
porkpie replied to Familyfisherman's topic in General Discussion
Bonk fish, take home. I'm not even going to get into the whole lining thing, other than to say I've never personally witnessed a chinook HIT a bait in 2 feet of water. FYI, scraped skein is one of the finest baits available! -
To be honest it's not really an issue I have. I don't post reports etc, as I have no personal interest in it. That said, if someone wants to post they're slayfest on my favorite river, I don't really care. I can always find a bit of water to fish, and the odd fish to catch, wether I am fishing with 1 or 100 of my closest friends. If not, I'll move on down the road! I don't see the issue with backgrounds, and frankly I don't enjoy fish in the muck pictures, or a fish laying beside a float reel. They all look the same to me! To each their own.

That wasn't a reaction, that was my best trolling. Damn you for not taking the bait, LOL!

I think that is an excellent idea. Further, we should also ban any recreational or stakes based tournaments, and perhaps guide services as well. I believe they take a serious toll on our fisheries, I am sure you will agree!

why do bright colours work with steelhead
porkpie replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
There's that too, but I might say at any time of year. There is certainly no mystery to it, and it doesn't take very long to become relatively skilled at it! -
why do bright colours work with steelhead
porkpie replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
As to the why of it, I couldn't say. Anything I came up with would be pure speculation. I do know that bright colors often work. Over many years of fishing, my most consistent producer has been chartreuse roe bags. I can't imagine why, but it works so I use em! I frequently use natural colors, both in roe bags, fly patterns and of course worms, but my most consistent producers are chartreuse based flies and bags. Off times even in clearer water, go figure! By all means, carry a selection of bright baits and naturals. I always do, even though I am most consistent with certain patterns. You never know when the blue bags are going to produce, lol! -
Superwinches are OK, and if your doing some light plowing it will work fine. If your plowing a massive driveway, and the blade is going to be up and down constantly, then your going to do your neighbors driveway etc. plus go mudding, and need to extricate yourself often, then go with the warn. I have a warn 2500 on my machine, and its great but I've owned the cheapy superwinches before and can't say I've had one go bad on me, mind you I'm don't use my winch heavily. Usually its the actuator that fries not the winch itself. And realistically you can replace your superwinch 3 times for that coin! My 2 cents!

With Blackberry in the shape there in???????????NF
porkpie replied to davey buoy's topic in General Discussion
I use an iPhone 5, I am not a teenage girl, nor do I have any game apps on it. What I do have is a bunch of useful functions for work, navionics and a GPS, a pretty good pocket camera, a photo editor that can turn even marginal pictures into half decent ones, google maps a calender and a few other useful apps. I can also put some music on it for the ride to work, and get a couple different email accounts in one place. The blackberry can do some of this. The blackberry itself is not bad, but the usual BB apologists trot out the teenage girl stuff, which is tired and overdone. There is a reason that BB is steadily losing market share, and android and apple are gobbling it up, and it ain't teenage girls!! All that aside, whatever poison you choose, be it BB, apple or android the only advice I would give is to try and get away from Rogers. Wind is great if your service area supports the wind home network, if not have a good look at virgin. Yes bell owns them, but their plans are less expensive, they have Canada wide calling and decent packages, and of course it's on bell network so you have service nearly anywhere! As for upgrades etc, I wouldn't bother, just go buy a refurb and don't get stuck with a particular provider. I simply buy whatever device I want now, and I'm free to take my business elsewhere at the drop of a hat. Good luck! -
My mind is now blown!!!! Wow, carp! In all seriousness, steelheaders have always had an element that thought they where the greatest and latest, and the second coming of Jesus himself. At one time, a very long time ago, I was probably that guy, I will admit. There where no websites to pimp yourself on, or sponsorships per say, so you remained a legend in your own mind... LOL! Fortunately people grow up! I do enjoy watching the steelhead commandos these days though. It's always fun! I recently had a 20'year old try to school me on the art of catching fish. At one time I would have tried to outdo him with my adventures, now I just listen and enjoy! A least he's passionate about something that doesn't involve an Xbox!

Eastern ditches..... What a crappy little term. I have never understood why steelheaders speak of these creeks with such derision, yet they will all flock to them as soon as a run is in. It's like sucking all the enjoyment out of something that you can, and then running it into the ground!

The Tribs have been shoulder to shoulder around the GTA for the 25 plus years I've been fishing them. Not much has changed, nor will it. As far as history goes back, there have also been folks willing to prostitute themselves for a bit of notoriety, or free services or product. That too won't change, heck apparently some are willing to pay for the privledge. Everyone knows the hooker in the room, but they oft times don't know themselves! Such is life, I don't let it bother me, it's a free country and everyone is entitled to pursue their interest. They all pay for it somehow, I guess some just have to put $50 up front!

That's what I use! Works great!

They are excellent machines! Buy with confidence. We run Hondas at our hunt camp extensively, and they take a lot of abuse! I have a yamaha myself, and they are also an excellent machine, but you can't go wrong with Honda!

It's been a long time coming!! Glad to hear its out. Going to have to start bringing a charger in the boat because of all the apps I use now LOL!
-
Very nice! Congrats!

Silvers are already being caught! Nice fish!!
-
Now that's a good lookin dinner, and a nice stringer of pics!

I agree, no such thing as overkill. While not a musky reel, one of my calcuttas has got to be over 15 years old now, and still in excellent shape after years of hard use! The calcuttas will last a lifetime if maintained! Buy cheap, buy twice!

Hey man, I used 7 foot lightning stick for years as my number one live bait rod!! Good stuff! I still use ugly sticks when I need a rod I can step on! LOL

Works great on my iphone, but hotmaps on my sonar is even more amazing!
