  1. No, your not I have one as well but I fish down there often enough so it's worth it for me, not everyone lives close enough to a border for it to be worthwhile, and some don't have passports. A US adress is only worth it if you can actually physically get there. Anyway as for the original, I order from BPS online at least 2-3 times a year, and it is always price as quoted, no worries!
  2. Wow, I'm an atv guy myself, but for that kind of coin, I'd be buying myself a very nice used sled!
  3. My old etrex was great. It may not have had maps, but was reliable enough to bring you home if the weather took a dump, or in the dark of night and of course for marking allthose awesome fishing or hunting locations. My father in law uses it now for snowmobiling or boating across the lake at the cottage at night. He has pre- programmed a few routes from different locations to get him home safe. I would feel party blind without all the mapping features now. Even my little Dakota 20 is amazing with maps, and the navionics on my bird in the boat is unreal! Still carry a compass everywhere though!!!
  4. $10, they don't put out much heat. I bought one 10'years ago for $10, I wouldn't pay a penny more.
  5. Holy smokes... I woulda just cut that! I'm afraid I don't have that much patience!
  6. FYI, Home Depot has 5500'watt generac portables on for $800 and 3300 watt generac portables on for $440. Not a honda, but good generators and the price is reasonable.
  7. I'm going with Jase Robertson myself! Catfish and dynamite..... Why not!
  8. A very nice story, glad to hear it all worked out and you where able to keep the pipes from freezing! I wasn't without power fortunately, but I know many who where out for long periods! I have a fireplace and plenty of wood, and lots of propane and spare fuel on hand, but this opened my eyes a bit wider, and I bit the bullet and bought a generator as well. If I never need it, so be it but it's there if I ever require one.
  9. I live a fair distance away, but I love cabelas. I will be making the trip every time I pass Barrie if its anything close to a US cabelas!
  10. I have always had good customer service at Canadian Tire, and they have always gone out of their way to correct issues with products etc. Nice article, and a nice gesture on the part of the store!
  11. For ice fishing panfish, feel is very important to me, so I have a few expensive st. Croix panfish rods as they telegraph light bites very well. I also have a st croix rod that I use for lite presentations for pickerel or whitefish. Everything else is cheap and functional, as usually if a pick, white or laker smashes my jig, I will know about it! So I like st croix, they make nice stuff, but certainly don't have a fleet of em! Mine all have at least 6 seasons on them if not more, and all have held up, but then so have my 10 dollar ice rods, so there you go!
  12. You must pay HST when transferring the bike into your name regrettably.
  13. new years eve/day for me.
  14. I use an iPhone, but I also have navionics on it. For fishing, it can't be beat!
  15. We lost power from about 2am to 6:30am, so far not to bad. Hopefully it stays on! My neighbours tree is halfway down across his driveway, and several neighbours have trees with limbs down. I am fortunate and have no trees over my house, they are all at the back of the lot. They are calling for more in our area, and if that happens we are going to have a lot more downed tree limbs!
  16. Guelph lake is closed to ice fishing these days by GRCA as far as I know, however belwoods is still offering ice fishing I believe (of course they are super careful about safe ice etc.) I believe shades mill, and pinewoods also have ice fishing. Good luck!
  17. We all wear columbias at our house, a bugaboot or some variation of it. I wear a little lower cut version with a rubber boot foot and a hiker top. We often wait for a sale at sears, they go on almost half price near the start of the season sometimes. I paid $60 for mine tax in this year, and for general winter daily wear, they are very warm and quite water resistant. The rest of my family has had similar opinions of their columbias. Mine would not be suitable for deep snow or Ice fishing, but for in and out of the car, and being out and about they are perfect. I have other boots for ice fishing or -30. If your looking for general purpose boots, columbias are excellent!
  18. Although you apparently meant to quote someone else ( I can edit posts and thought everyone could). Insult slinging is generally in poor taste, I won't engage in it, and I hope you'll follow suit. Thanks!
  19. Very well put! My wife, a non hunting female with anti redneck tendancies ( who knows why she married me??). Is a confirmed duck dynasty and Robertson family fan! What sold her was the lack of negativity in the show, and the open displays of family values. She can easily overlook blowing up beaver houses as she really appreciates seeing some values shown on TV. There viewership has crossed some boundaries that no one ever expected! Good job Phil, for sticking to your beliefs! I have no doubt it will all work out!
  20. I don't understand all the gopro hero, self agrandizing silliness that gets posted all over the Internet these days, frankly I think it's dumb. I also think a lot of fishermen with just a few years on the water have pretty much learned everything they know from the internet, which is a bit of a shame, but that's progress for ya and there is no holding it back. To be honest, it's benefited me as well though, as back in the day I had to guestimate from experience just how many days after a rain that I could fish a river etc. and you got pretty good at it after a while, but there was the odd busted trip because it had rained harder, or there was more runoff than you thought. Now there are flow charts at the tip of your fingers, and you can seldom go wrong. I don't agree with the reporting, and those that think that local communities will welcome anglers with open arms so the gas station and the Timmy's can do a bit better are kidding themselves. You see the politicians will be reelected not by fishermen, but by the locals that live beside the lake. Those same locals, many that commute to work, and have no stake in the community other than it being their home, don't care if the guy who owns the pumps, or the owners of Timmy's and subway have a better year. The do care that there is 50 cars in front of their home, or that there are quads and sleds constantly running up and down their road. They also care when you didn't have the courtesy to go to Timmy's, but instead decided to take a piss in the ditch in front of their house. Those are the people who scream bloody murder at their councillor to put up no parking signs, to shut down lake access points etc etc. And you know something, the Mayors and councillors know damn well that the fisherman from Toronto will have absolutely no hand in re-electing them, so they don't care about your opinion. That's politics! That being said, people are free to do as they please, and post what they like. Unfortunately I think a lot of it is done without much forethought, or frankly because they want to line their pockets, or get free things etc. whatever the case may be the Internet is a great resource, but one that is capable of doing a lot of damage.
  21. My drive was great heading down highway 6 for night shift, until dummy that was doing 40kph in the outside lane towing a trailer decided that he would suddenly veer into my lane while I was trying to pass him at a very reasonable for conditions 70kph after having driven behind him for 10 minutes. Fortunately I was able to easily avoid him. Not all accidents are caused by excess speed. Some are caused by people's paralysis and inability to drive in poor conditions. If this is how you drive when the roads get bad, then stay home!
  22. Having spent a considerable amount of time in the public service, I can say with no doubt that there are plenty of useless slugs. There are however many outstanding, hard working individuals that work on a 24 hour basis to keep the wheels from falling off the bus. I have watched guys freeze their cans off to fix a main break at 3am at minus 30, while working their buts off, to the guys i saw driving the plows all night last night to clear the roads. i have seen people go out if their way to find info on things they have absolutely nothing to do with, just to help out a member of the public. I've seen this over and over, and fortunately I can say that I have seen more good than bad, however there is no question that a small section of the public service feels entitled to whatever they can get, for as little effort as possible. But guess what, I worked in the private sector previous to this, and saw a fair number of those same useless slugs doing the same thing, and I saw many of them keep jobs past the point where they should've been let go. Anyone collecting a government paycheck is going to be a natural target for those that assume we are getting a better deal. That is part of the gig, and I long ago stopped worrying about it!
  23. My boys have been watching or helping since they where 2. Never been an issue, go for it!
  24. I buy the Costco stuff. Cheap and effective!
  25. My suit is 20 years old and still floats no problems! I test it at the family cottage every summer!
