  1. I can't speak for an outfitter, as I haven't used one for many years. Years ago, I used to go out for lakers with Floyd Hales out of Beaverton. They where an excellent outfitt, but I don't know if they run huts on the perch grounds. As for location, to me its a no brainer for where you live, I would hit Simcoe every time.
  2. I second that opinion, and the only thing I could add is that there Is no need to screw it on, just install the board with a liberal amount of 3M 5200 and let it cure for 24 hours and then mount electronics. The 5200 should be all you need to mount the board solidly.
  3. Scavenge one of your crappiest collapsible lawn chairs from the garage. Of hit walmart and see if they have a black one in the camping section for $10 at this time of year. I save the material off them when the frames go, for just such purposes!
  4. It certainly made me rethink my already thought out plan a bit, and caused me to spend a bit more dough, but I'll be that much better off than I would have been otherwise the next time an event like this crops up! Who to blame? Well, I think Tbone summed it up nicely!
  5. A fan will go anywhere, no need for scratchers etc. You will get many many miles on a well maintained fan. That's just my opinion on sleds for ice fishing and off trail use, based on my experiences and those that I fish and hunt with. Your mileage may vary, buy what you like.
  6. Indy lite 340 fan. An excellent ice fishing machine. Bravos and tundras are good bush buggies and ice fishing specific sleds but just average trail machines. I have owned a couplel yamaha and a skidoo and all have good options available, but if it where my coin I'd go with a Polaris Indy lite. Most guys at my hunt camp use the little polaris. Fan is a must. We use a liquid Polaris 2 up and a newer skidoo 600 2 up at the family cottage, and they are excellent machines but a bugger when they do get bogged down in the slush or deep deep snow. Good luck!
  7. I love yamaha, just bought a brand new one this winter, my quad is a yamaha as well. Excellent power equipment, however in no way do I believe that they outsell merc 10-1 in the outboard market. Perhaps worldwide as was mentioned. I have never seen a yammi under tow myself, but most boats I see being towed in are older and poorly maintained, and anything poorly maintained will fail. I've owned merc, mariner (yamaha block) tohatsu/Nissan and Johnson/Evinrude as well as yamaha of different sizes over the years on various fishing and duck boats. They've all been pretty reliable, but then I maintain things. I do believe that the yamaha/Honda products have much greater longevity, but that is personal opinion your mileage may vary!
  8. No, your not I have one as well but I fish down there often enough so it's worth it for me, not everyone lives close enough to a border for it to be worthwhile, and some don't have passports. A US adress is only worth it if you can actually physically get there. Anyway as for the original, I order from BPS online at least 2-3 times a year, and it is always price as quoted, no worries!
  9. Wow, I'm an atv guy myself, but for that kind of coin, I'd be buying myself a very nice used sled!
  10. My old etrex was great. It may not have had maps, but was reliable enough to bring you home if the weather took a dump, or in the dark of night and of course for marking allthose awesome fishing or hunting locations. My father in law uses it now for snowmobiling or boating across the lake at the cottage at night. He has pre- programmed a few routes from different locations to get him home safe. I would feel party blind without all the mapping features now. Even my little Dakota 20 is amazing with maps, and the navionics on my bird in the boat is unreal! Still carry a compass everywhere though!!!
  11. $10, they don't put out much heat. I bought one 10'years ago for $10, I wouldn't pay a penny more.
  12. Holy smokes... I woulda just cut that! I'm afraid I don't have that much patience!
  13. FYI, Home Depot has 5500'watt generac portables on for $800 and 3300 watt generac portables on for $440. Not a honda, but good generators and the price is reasonable.
  14. I'm going with Jase Robertson myself! Catfish and dynamite..... Why not!
  15. A very nice story, glad to hear it all worked out and you where able to keep the pipes from freezing! I wasn't without power fortunately, but I know many who where out for long periods! I have a fireplace and plenty of wood, and lots of propane and spare fuel on hand, but this opened my eyes a bit wider, and I bit the bullet and bought a generator as well. If I never need it, so be it but it's there if I ever require one.
  16. I live a fair distance away, but I love cabelas. I will be making the trip every time I pass Barrie if its anything close to a US cabelas!
  17. I have always had good customer service at Canadian Tire, and they have always gone out of their way to correct issues with products etc. Nice article, and a nice gesture on the part of the store!
  18. For ice fishing panfish, feel is very important to me, so I have a few expensive st. Croix panfish rods as they telegraph light bites very well. I also have a st croix rod that I use for lite presentations for pickerel or whitefish. Everything else is cheap and functional, as usually if a pick, white or laker smashes my jig, I will know about it! So I like st croix, they make nice stuff, but certainly don't have a fleet of em! Mine all have at least 6 seasons on them if not more, and all have held up, but then so have my 10 dollar ice rods, so there you go!
  19. You must pay HST when transferring the bike into your name regrettably.
  20. I use an iPhone, but I also have navionics on it. For fishing, it can't be beat!
  21. We lost power from about 2am to 6:30am, so far not to bad. Hopefully it stays on! My neighbours tree is halfway down across his driveway, and several neighbours have trees with limbs down. I am fortunate and have no trees over my house, they are all at the back of the lot. They are calling for more in our area, and if that happens we are going to have a lot more downed tree limbs!
  22. Guelph lake is closed to ice fishing these days by GRCA as far as I know, however belwoods is still offering ice fishing I believe (of course they are super careful about safe ice etc.) I believe shades mill, and pinewoods also have ice fishing. Good luck!
  23. We all wear columbias at our house, a bugaboot or some variation of it. I wear a little lower cut version with a rubber boot foot and a hiker top. We often wait for a sale at sears, they go on almost half price near the start of the season sometimes. I paid $60 for mine tax in this year, and for general winter daily wear, they are very warm and quite water resistant. The rest of my family has had similar opinions of their columbias. Mine would not be suitable for deep snow or Ice fishing, but for in and out of the car, and being out and about they are perfect. I have other boots for ice fishing or -30. If your looking for general purpose boots, columbias are excellent!
