  1. Nucanoe frontier 12, I have one too, it's an awesome boat. Sail carries them as well. They can take up to a 2.5hp gas outboard. I use mine for fishing and duck hunting. You can stand up in them without tipping as well. They have several YouTube videos, check them out!
  2. I do something that is nowhere near as high tech, and really I only do it for steelhead fishing, I record water levels, colour, fish caught etc by date. Really helps me decide where I'm fishing on a given day based on my own historical data. Works very well! Nice job on the log!!
  3. Woops nm
  4. They are very hard to find, and I believe that other than etec or maybe the merc salt water series they are pretty much out of production. It's the reason I just bought a 2 stroke yammy. My johnson is still running perfectly, but I wanted the yamaha for some time now, and I knew the supply of new old stock was drying up. If you find one, grab it!
  5. I have a lifeproof case on my iphone and a cheap plug in speaker from costco. I only run the stereo when I'm sitting still, so spray isn't an issue. I wouldn't bother with a stereo install these days.
  6. I just picked up a 2 stroke yamaha, new old stock from the last year of production. I am a big fan of yamaha power equipment, and I've not heard many complaints about yamaha, however I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Honda that's for sure. I'm not sure how good the Suzuki dealer network is.
  7. nm.. poor taste, lol
  8. I'd bet you would find some open water given there was a bit of a melt and the weather since hasn't been terribly cold. I havent fished it in eons however, but when we where young and stupid, and not old enough for a drivers license we used to go to erindale by train and bus to get a winter fix. Some of the faster sections would stay open in all but the coldest winters. I wouldn't say them fishing was great though.... LOL. Good luck!
  9. No of course not, I haven't owned an 8 inch auger in 10 years. You sound like a real tough mudder, happy drilling!
  10. 18 volt rigid drill/driver combo with 2 batteries, $180 at Home Depot, $10 for adapter, and the cheapy normark auger for $50, your at $270 and it is multi purpose. I get close to 40 holes give or take on 2 batteries through a foot of ice. You just need to fashion an auger retainer of some sorts to fit on the adapter! The ion is nice to look at, but it retails for $540 and reportedly gets 40 holes per charge. I personally could make more use of the drill/driver!
  11. While I would agree with you in most things like that , I can't on the basis that we have run off brand gennies for years at our hunt camp, and put hundreds and hundreds of hours on them. And yes eventually they fail, however it would surprise you how long they run before the Big Bang. Maintenance is the key with them. Most people who buy the cheaper ones will fill them with oil And gas and never look at them again. Guaranteed they will fail in an emergency. If looked after, run often, oil changed once a year for light users, and the carburetor run dry by shutting down the gennie with the fuel shutoff valve instead of the off switch, I have no doubt that most of the champions etc. will power someone through a week long emergency. If you are an end of the world type, then yes your right buy a honda but we've run cheap generators for so many hours without failure that on this I'd disagree!
  12. Well, it's his show, and if the network wants to let him preach at the end of it, so be it. If people stop watching, they'll drop him plain and simple! I don't get the angst over religion.
  13. Our local CT is sold out of most of these items as well. While it sounds like the CT clerk is a little off the rails, it does prove the theory that you should keep things on hand. Our local store was stripped of all these items within a day of the ice storm, and still isn't restocked!
  14. I was just using it as another opportunity to dump on artic crap, LOL!!
  15. Untrue. I once owned an arctic cat ATV. It was the worlds biggest piece of crap, and I was happy to tell anyone that'd listen!
  16. I always had good luck with Floyd Hales, but it had been a long time.
  17. What size battery pack on that? Nice rig!
  18. I can't speak for an outfitter, as I haven't used one for many years. Years ago, I used to go out for lakers with Floyd Hales out of Beaverton. They where an excellent outfitt, but I don't know if they run huts on the perch grounds. As for location, to me its a no brainer for where you live, I would hit Simcoe every time.
  19. I second that opinion, and the only thing I could add is that there Is no need to screw it on, just install the board with a liberal amount of 3M 5200 and let it cure for 24 hours and then mount electronics. The 5200 should be all you need to mount the board solidly.
  20. Scavenge one of your crappiest collapsible lawn chairs from the garage. Of hit walmart and see if they have a black one in the camping section for $10 at this time of year. I save the material off them when the frames go, for just such purposes!
  21. It certainly made me rethink my already thought out plan a bit, and caused me to spend a bit more dough, but I'll be that much better off than I would have been otherwise the next time an event like this crops up! Who to blame? Well, I think Tbone summed it up nicely!
  22. A fan will go anywhere, no need for scratchers etc. You will get many many miles on a well maintained fan. That's just my opinion on sleds for ice fishing and off trail use, based on my experiences and those that I fish and hunt with. Your mileage may vary, buy what you like.
  23. Indy lite 340 fan. An excellent ice fishing machine. Bravos and tundras are good bush buggies and ice fishing specific sleds but just average trail machines. I have owned a couplel yamaha and a skidoo and all have good options available, but if it where my coin I'd go with a Polaris Indy lite. Most guys at my hunt camp use the little polaris. Fan is a must. We use a liquid Polaris 2 up and a newer skidoo 600 2 up at the family cottage, and they are excellent machines but a bugger when they do get bogged down in the slush or deep deep snow. Good luck!
  24. I love yamaha, just bought a brand new one this winter, my quad is a yamaha as well. Excellent power equipment, however in no way do I believe that they outsell merc 10-1 in the outboard market. Perhaps worldwide as was mentioned. I have never seen a yammi under tow myself, but most boats I see being towed in are older and poorly maintained, and anything poorly maintained will fail. I've owned merc, mariner (yamaha block) tohatsu/Nissan and Johnson/Evinrude as well as yamaha of different sizes over the years on various fishing and duck boats. They've all been pretty reliable, but then I maintain things. I do believe that the yamaha/Honda products have much greater longevity, but that is personal opinion your mileage may vary!
