An excellent read. I started wearing an inflateable when my son started coming on the boat with me, I now wear it religiously. In warm weather it can make all the difference. In foul shoulder season weather, it may save you if your picked up quickly, or at the very least will make your recovery easier. I forget I'm even wearing it these days.

That's a fact!! I am a humminbird guy these days but have seen the elite series both 4/5 and 7 in friends boats. They seem to work just fine! I have owned both brands over the years, and humminbird used to be junk, but they sure have pulled their socks up, I am very happy with my bird, but lowrance makes a great product too!

For a kayak the lowrance elite 4 would be just about perfect. Last I saw bass pro was clearing out the old model for $120. They might be all gone by now, but there is an updated version for more $. It's a small compact colour fishfinder that would be ideal for a kayak. In my opinion, colour is a must these days. The price has come down significantly, and the difference is definitely worth it! Sure monochrome works fine, but the colour screen is awesome!

Local source for LED sidemarker/clearance lights?
porkpie replied to BillM's topic in General Discussion
Print it out, quite often as long as you have a copy of the add they will honour it for 30 days after! That's how I bought the LED's for my trailer! -
Lets hope not, but the Grand she is a pumping full bore now below the dam!! Here is hoping for limited precipitation!!

Canadian tire sells an excellent clamp on seat mount designed for bench seats. They are removable with wing nuts and lock washers. They include a seat swivel, are all metal and run $35. Just bolt on your seat and clamp it on, good to go! Better than the half plastic ones at BPS for $29.99

Hey man, you missed the most important part, the Walskies practically jump in the boat just to go for a ride! Now that is a key selling point!

Ideal float rod length for eastern tribs
porkpie replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
I fish a custom wrapped 10.5, or an 11.5 when I visit the eastern cricks, either or is a great length and I never feel under gunned. Pretty much everywhere else gets a 13 or 13'6. -
My oldest boy just took the course recently. He had no problems, said the instructors where quite helpful and found it all quite enjoyable! just have to get his turkey course done now!

27lbs of illegal sturgeon eggs !! Busted!!!
porkpie replied to fishindevil's topic in General Discussion
10k a piece for possession of roe and meat is pretty hefty. It reads to me that the only offence is possessing it, and that they sourced the fish and eggs from another party. Pretty hard to ban them from fishing when you can't prove they obtained the roe from angling! Seriously though, people suggesting jail time for fisheries offences is a bit over the top. A 10k fine is pretty stiff for that sort of charge. -
2nd vote for Costco, they have been good to me!

I've never head of anyone using wire off of planers, I can't imagine that would work very well. Lots use lead core off of them though. You don't need to use wire off of dipseys. Braid works great, but lots of guys like wire as spiny water fleas don't stick to it. I use braid myself, but sometimes fleas are a pain. I have used mono dipseys before, and they are hard to trip when you have a lot of line out. I won't use them myself.

Shimano is an excellent company to deal with. The few times I've had issues, they have adressed them quickly, and either free of charge, or very VERY reasonably. I do like diawa 1300/700 spinning reels, but outside of that, just about every reel I own is shimano, with the exception of a few line counters. I don't love their rod line, but thats a personal preference thing more than anything. I don't understand the whole reel cleaning thing though. I just throw a bit of sewing machine oil on once in a blue moon, and occasionally a dab of grease, otherwise I seldom clean a reel, and I have reels that are 20 plus years old that have seen a lot of action, and still function great!!

23 years has to be some sort of record!! But to answer the question, yes I use buddies and they are very convenient!

Kash is an excellent lake. My buddies family has a cottage there, And we where up often in our 20's. Did very well on bass and musky. Trolling was the ticket for the musky. I can't seem to think of one that we caught while casting, but we trolled up many suspended fish along the rock faces on Kash. Big body baits did the trick! Great lake to fish... And party on, lol! I haven't been up since the kids though!

That kid is great, I really enjoy his segments!

Any thoughts on Canadian Health Care System?
porkpie replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
I think we have things better than most do in the world, and that there is a lot of unnecessary whining that goes on. Our standard of living and health care would blow people's minds in some developing Countries. If a person has enough pocket money to feed their kids good food, cloth them, and provide them with life's necessities then on top of it own a house or a condo, a vehicle etc, then a boat and stack a pile of fishing poles and frills on top, it's my firm opinion that they are living very well and don't have a single thing to complain about, much less wait times. Anything as huge as the health care system has flaws. My mom just went through it, and it wasn't perfect, but it was pretty darn good! I think in this Country where I was born and raised we have another major issue and that is self entitlement that causes us to complain when our needs aren't met as quick as possible. If folks had ever seen poverty (even in our own borders) they would be less likely to complain. I consider myself extremely lucky to have a decent job and my kids are well looked after, I have decent health care even if I'm taxed for it ( look up home surgery on YouTube they are all American) own a home, a vehicle and a boat, as well as a pile of fishing gear. My life is good, even though I've had more than one six hour wait in the ER. There are some exceptions to this, where people fall through the cracks no doubt, but overall we are doing pretty good! -
They have to do it to pay the bills these days. It was never as bad as this when I was a kid, you could watch a show without having product rammed down your throat all through it, they just went to a tackle talk type of segment where they pumped the product, and then back to the show. I really like fishfull thinking, but I can't watch most of the shows these days for all the product placement.

I can only imagine you've got something different going on. Myself and several friends drive F150's and I can't recall anyone ever having that sort of problem. Weird!

A board and a couple of Rubbermaids are all you need!

Lost my pier net, need advice on replacing it
porkpie replied to chefboi17's topic in General Discussion
I have one very similar. Like I said, it's got to be 15 years old. Just remember to always pull straight up, never try to lift the fish like you've got a 3 foot net. You should get many years out of it! The up side is that I've done many a paint job with that pole as well lol! Good luck!! -
Caught -- and released to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

There is only one type of record that matters. All tackle! The rest, well...
