Stocked brookies= doesn't matter even if bass ate brookie eggs, put and take brookies, no reproduction anyways I don't know about Bancroft, but in Haliburton, the stocked brookie lakes mostly don't have bass If the lake has bass, the MNR seems to prefer stocking bows, splake or lakers I think it's both competition for food but mostly decent sized bass preying on recently stocked brookie fingerlings that is the issue with the stockers (not natural brookie populations) Smallies and brookies share and overlap habitat all year. The brookies aren't shallow in the summer but plenty of bass are below the thermocline.

Isn't it a little early for this survey for 2020? If they want to be my friend, help me save money on my hydro bill. -
The stocked brookies won't reproduce and are basically put and take I guess the main concern is spending the money and effort of stocking brookies just to have most of them becoming prey for bass and a poor return for anglers. The stocking lists are available to everyone. Just because they are stocking brookies doesn't mean it's a worthwhile lake.

Thumbs up from me Bri,

That sounds like a blast! Deep fried deliciousness too.

The levels were normal in the fall. December was warm. Jan, Feb and March were very cold. The water went down while the lakes were ice covered.

Nice and flat out there, looks like a fun day, nice fish too. Is that boat a Sylvan Striker?

85 is beauty! Par 72? 45 k wind is nice when it's at your back and you crush a 5 wood off the tee

There's crazy low water in Haliburton like Shawn said so the Gull and Burnt aren't going to be much help without rain. Anybody know what happened? The water level was fine in the fall, but dropped when the lakes were ice covered.

I just use Can Tire gear oil. If it's milky, water is getting in and I change it often, if it looks good, I only change it once a year. if it's peeing good I don't replace impellers as regular maintenance. -
If you guys are so worried about being preyed upon, go live somewhere else, there's lots of countries with no threat of bears, wolves, snakes or coyotes hunt to eat with no waste God bless Canada!

Before I clicked on this I could have sworn Bill's reply was going to be "do you wear the blue and yellow gloves for golfing too?" Hahaha Post some pictures Rick, it would be interesting to see what the course looks like up there, maybe even a little Fin's and Skins too

This is a book about Ontario wolves, but I would guess the behaviors and calls are similar.. Wolf Country, by John B Theberge He said howls let the others identify each other and the distance away they are. The excited yips and high pitched howls are frisky excitement and playfulness. Fascinating book, I really enjoyed it.

Wow! It looks like you guys kicked some butt down there! A quick question- Why is it ok to have those reels is in the water, often turbid, silty water? I see a lot of pictures like that. I'm guessing the quality is so good that grit and rust isn't a problem?

An old timer I was talking to said the big lakes in Haliburton should be mostly open water by next weekend. -

With everybody having smart phones now, it's almost daily on the news there's a new video of cops shooting or beating somebody unjustly. The Cali horse thief most recently. Being a police person is a tough job, but as a guy getting his news from the media, I think there's a real problem here. edit- I think the body cams will be a waste of my tax dollars because the police won't release the incriminating stuff because they protect their own

Fun day, good weather, not as good as the weather you had that day Shane, hopefully do it again next year -
Here's a personal example of homeland security paranoia gone too far. My Dad, white, 71 years old going to pick up my Mom from Buffalo airport a month ago. At the border, pulled out of his car, hand cuffed, legs kicked apart to be searched, back of his head wacked so his forehead hits the wall, sits in a cell for 2 hours, SUV torn apart, then turned back and not allowed to cross, no explanation. We're not perfect up here but they can keep that crap south of the border.

I'm against the grain here. I don't think the solution is more guns. There's always going to be nutbars. Guns and paranoia don't solve this.

Musings and questions. Some fishing some nf.

Even if it's legal and within your rights, I wouldn't be out with any type of firearm around the GTA. The police have shot people with small knives, cap guns or unarmed people they deemed threatening. The school behind my house went into lock down last year because of a guy with a camera on a tripod, Hahaha -
Some guys are saying `missed the deer`and hit the bow hunter The lawyer said- hit the deer, the deer dropped, the bullet went clean through and hit the bow hunter That`s about the only story that would justify their actions that day, because he shot, left for an hour or so, then came back and reported the accident

The NF stuff is fun, but I like fish pics/ reports. If guys keep getting flack they get ticked off and don't post. This is a fishing forum after all. Keep calm and chive on! oh yeah, good thread and nice pikes!
