  1. I've never been there, but it's a pretty small lake to support a fishing lodge. We went to Horshoe Island Camp on Mistinikon (close to Argyle). The fishing was ok, lots of water to explore and other parties were doing better than ours. I'd consider switching to Horseshoe if you could. I just worry that a lake that size, gets that many fisherman keeping fish, might make it tough fishing. But what do I know, Argyle could be great.
  2. Key River to G Bay- that's big water for 3 guys in a 15 foot boat, I think I would have had navigation problems for sure without my GPS, just a maze of islands and shoals
  3. In a couple weeks we are flying into Quantz. If anyone has been to Quantz or Napken Lake (I know it's probably a long shot), we would love to hear your thoughts. thanks
  4. small size little cleo in burgundy/ bronze
  5. Thanks for the replies, we're going to Haliburton, my wife isn't too happy with the black flies going in her nose and coming out her mouth
  6. We're thinking about heading up to Haliburton tomorrow morning. Just wonderin how the blackflies are?
  7. thanks guys, my girlfriend won't be too happy
  8. Anybody up in the Haliburton (Minden) area? Just wondering how the blackflies are. Hopefully the cold nights lately have knocked them down abit. Thanks in advance
  9. I'm not an expert, but have had some success. I like a shore or point that drops fairly steadily deeper, but isn't a straight vertical wall. It's better if there's rocks and boulders on the way down. I look for "hooks" too, but it doesn't always work. I wonder if I'm marking whitefish or cisco alot of the time. I like white tubes, williams spoons, even a white curly tail jig (Mr Twister). When I'm bring the tube back to the boat, I reel pretty slow all the way up, I've caught a few bigger lakers on the retrieve in the middle of the water column. I try to not have too much slack in the line when jigging the tube. It's a pretty light, floaty bait when down 60 + feet. good luck
  10. I'm an autoworker (as stated before), I have a BSc in Fisheries Biology form U of Guelph, when I choose what to take in University, I didn't intend to "waste" my education, things change and some things don't work out
  11. Some of you guys are saying that the Japanese cars ar better engineered/ built. The last few years the gap has closed. Jap stuff getting worse, domestic stuff at par or better. I'm an autoworker but I don't blame you guys for not wanting the gov. bail-out. The problem is poor management and an even poorer economy. Our wage, benefits and pension account for 6 percent of the vehicle sticker price. We make a decent wage but I would like everyone to try running on the assembly line for 10 hours straight, 5 days a week and then come up with a figure to represent a fair wage. To the "thank god I have a Nissan" guy- enjoy your Nissan, Hyundai or Kia, hopefully you can afford your next one though, because you may not have a job either
  12. I bought a 12 foot tracker from BPS and use an 8hp 2 stroke tiller, I like it, it's light, fits in the truck, but it does ride terribly, it's the worst when trying to ride on plane with just 4 or 6 inches of chop on the water, everything (including the driver) bounces around pretty good
  13. I work at the Ford Plant in Oakville. We are currently launching a new vehicle (maybe 10 or so have come down the line), based on the Flex platform. The price starts at around $55 000, another genious idea in a poor economy, I don't get it, and the new Festiva micro car is years away, very frustrating Ford builds some small gas and diesel cars in Europe, how hard would it be to build or sell them over here? I don't blame you guys for saying "no bail outs", the upper management continues to screw things up habitually, I just don't want to loose my job
  14. it's pretty safe boating if your running down the middle the walleye seem to be tough, I'm pretty sure there is big ones in there, it's a huge lake, there is almost always a period of fast action just as the sun is going down, but almost all the fish are really small, they don't seem to want a jig and plastic (mr twister), they seem to only take a worm/ leach/ or minnow the pike are hard to target, we only seem to catch them while walleye fishing never fished for the whitefish but have heard of people doing well, I think I've marked them down deep while looking for lakers beautiful, large lake, nice camp, great owners, good price but we won't go back because the fishing isn't good enough
