  1. There is some wrong info on there, but it's still a good tool. Finding good lakes takes leg work and trial and error. Typically, the more effort required to get to the lake, the better the fishing.
  2. Great story Chris. Sounds exciting to witness a hardcore tournament like that.
  3. We were spoiled. When 22 plus inch walleye become almost a nuisance, you know it's a special lake. Like Mike said, the weather and the bite seemed to be working against us a lot of the time. With better conditions, the numbers would be crazy or your arms would fall off. That's the best lake I've fished. Having Mike at the tiller obviously didn't hurt either. What a blast!
  4. Kijiji for sure. It helps to be quick when a new listing pops up. Bring some muffs too so you can run the motor in the guys driveway using a garden hose to feed the cooling system.
  5. So what's the deal with the Atlantics? I always thought they were a struggling, vulnerable natural population. Were they stocked and naturally reproduced? Pretty unique story either way.
  6. Very cool Rick, sounds like a great week up there. Sleek looking Otter they have. Just curious, what are you guys thinking for next year?
  7. They don't make'em like they used to. Good score Rick. What's your Mom going to do with it, park it, or road trips?
  8. Sounds like a great trip. I wouldn't have guessed a lake like that could produce 20 pound fish. Very cool.
  9. I've been to the Yukon and Alaska. Statistically speaking, the risk of a bear attack while sleeping in a tent is minimal, anywhere. Snuggle up in your sleeping bag with your 12 gauge, safety on, with 4 slugs in the mag
  10. Sadly, a pretty common story. "where do the children play?"
  11. Camper trailer = hassles. Storage, maintenance, depreciation, set-up/ take down, extra gas towing it That's what camping is all about, sleeping in a tent without the amenities of home.
  12. I'm always scrounging for wood. My neighbor in the city was taking down a big tree. I said "if it's cheaper, get them to drop it, and I'll clean it up and take the wood" It wasn't a recognizable species, looked like some type of willow. It's heavy as hell, when I hit it with the maul to split it, water sprays, it's almost like it's been soaked in water. Is that just because it's spring or will this stuff never dry out? Any input appreciated.
  13. You seem to know so much, why don't you contribute and enlighten us, instead of continually asking questions looking for tips and inside info?
  14. Glide bait is a Suick or similar bait. I'm definitely not an expert, but my go to bait up there is a black, inline bucktail spinner. I like early September better than the opener though. PM me if you want to compare notes on Haliburton skis.
  15. I did my 1st September trip last year. Like the others said, great time of the year up there. Where you guys going this year?
  16. After pulling for a while, see if the spark plug is wet and smells like gas. You could put a few drops of mixed gas down the spark plug hole, replace the plug, pull, and it should run for a little while. This may suck fuel through but you're still likely going to have to look at the carb.
  17. You can boat through into Lake of Bays. Lakers, ling and bass, not sure about pike.
  18. In the winter they do stack up pretty good in certain spots and big fish are vulnerable. Near my fish hut, if you stray to far, it's smallies in a small, defined area. They don't release well through the ice either, their swim bladder is often bulging out of their mouth.
  19. Great way to start the season Tim.
  20. Never been, but from what I've heard, it's tough fishing. Close by, I would look at the French.
  21. Good read Rob. The young lad is well on his way.
  22. Dollar figures aside, I'd say it's a great excuse for a road trip, vacation, camping adventure. Just for reference, 10 years ago it was $650 for a motorbike strapped to a pallet from to Calgary to Toronto. edit- the new 5 liter is good
  23. I (and likely some others too) would love to hear about your past trips to Diamond. Pictures are cool too.
  24. I'm thinking I won't even bring a rod, just a stocked cooler and I'll man the cradle.
  25. If you've done Fushimi and Nagamasis, you might like Barclay Bay on Missinaibi Lake.
