For sleds we've had good luck with Yamaha. An older Enticer, Bravo, Ovation or even a Phazer would suit your needs. Smaller, lighter fan cooled models are better. Slush can still screw you up. I couldn't get my longtrack Bravo out of deep slush yesterday.

People say "my worst day fishing is still better than my best day at work". I'm not so sure. It was derby day and the morning dawned cold and clear. I ran into knee deep slush with my Bravo. By the time my brother and I lifted it out, the track froze solid in the frigid weather. The Bravo would spend the night on the ice. These fish are small but it's a tough lake in mid winter. Chris had 2, me and Bain had 1 each. With the Bravo frozen, we planned to walk our fish in before the 2pm ending of the derby. We come out of the shelter and surprise, surprise, the derby ended at 1pm and we missed it. Kewley's fish would have been top 10 for sure, maybe top 5. Leaving the lake, my Dad's SUV is full so we leave his Clam pop-up and my Pelican jet sled on the shore until I can get back with my truck. I'm almost back with my truck and I see a black F150 with what looks like my sled on his trailer. Back at the lake the Clam and sled are gone. I drive like Luke Duke in the General Lee after the F150 but never caught him. Somebody is looking for trouble and I'm going to make sure he finds it. From the exhaust, it looked like the F150 was recently started so I've got an idea where he came from.

2014 recap: 1 day, only 1 fish, but....
chris.brock replied to I'mHooked's topic in General Discussion
Quality, not quantity! That's a good looking giant ski. -
Where do you live? I'm sure you'll get some help.

Not that this lure is expensive, but it's not available anymore. It's a "krinkles" copper/ orange spoon. I have a retired one on a plaque I won't use. My cousin gave me his 2nd last one and I promptly snagged it and lost it in the Attawapiskat River last summer. My heart sank.

Fine sled, but like Sinker, not necessary for ice fishing and heavy. a quick kijiji search, I think something like this would be the way to go http://www.kijiji.ca/v-snowmobile/belleville/1994-arctic-cat-jag-440-low-milage/1051014813?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

It's on the west side of Long Island, all by itself, red and silver, stop in for sure Shawn, I'd like to get a closer look at your rocket sled too

Akrisoner, this is going to sound like your Mom talking, but you should be careful now. After the first injury, the next injuries will come easier. I could write a book on the crazy situations I've been in after throwing my back out.

Breathing Life Back Into The Old CHEEPAS.
chris.brock replied to Moosebunk's topic in General Discussion
I think that translates into "Ghost's River". Probably a very cool place to sit by the campfire and watch darkness come and have a toot off the peace pipe. Great country up there, great report Bunk! -
In the spirit of fishing reports... a fishing report!
chris.brock replied to Rod Caster's topic in General Discussion
The fishing reports are really flowing now. That's a solid bow Chad, nice going! -
It wasn't a walleye, it was a pickereye I'm having a lot of fun. Everybody I've met from OFC are all great people. Skunk's home brew was good antifreeze on a cold winter's day too.

These sunshine and apple pie reports are making me "crotchety" in this cold weather. You take nice pictures, looks like a fun trip.

heads up for the 16th (fishing related)
chris.brock replied to manitoubass2's topic in General Discussion
No trail pass required for OFSC trails either this weekend (you have to go online and print something off though) Me and a few guys are in a derby Sunday. What sucks is the forecast says -21 for a high in Minden Sunday = cooped up in a portable all day -
One of those.... what are they called? Fish reports?
chris.brock replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
I would say that was a successful solo mission! Good fish report. -
Damn, those fish and scenery pictures make me wish it was summer! . That lake is a pike factory for sure. It's good to hear you had a great trip.

I've got a couple gag signs at my cottage because of this petty thief that lives up there and takes my stuff. "If you can read this, you are within range (cross hairs picture)" and "Due to the high price of ammo, don't expect a warning shot" seriously, a confrontation isn't a good idea, good luck Rick, let us know how it plays out

Nice fish and nice weather Bain, you're living the dream! Welcome back to a Canadian winter.
-
Nice Nick! It looks like you've got a keeper there with Sam, fishing, skating, enduring cold weather. I see a second Bravo in your future.

my new snowmobile, I mean ATV, (it will be fishing)

Very cool! Is that a kit or a home made invention? Put a video up if you get a chance. edit- IFH beat me to it -
Mike will ask you what's important to you and your budget etc., then give you some great options, solid guy!

I don't have any facts or references to back this up, but I wouldn't compress it. I don't have a jacket but I keep my sleeping bags hung up and out of the compression bag as much as possible.

I "like"ed nice eye!

Cool you're ok and you got your sled out and running fine again. I like the story because there was trouble, no one hurt, then there was a solution and there was no involvement from the OPP or MNR. A rough day but probably a memorable one for you and your friends.

Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa is all just one big urban sprawl with no real division. I'm guessing Scottsdale would be the nicer, classier neighborhood since it has higher prices. It depends on what you like to do, but I thought the Sedona area was the most scenic with lots of hiking trails. I'm guessing it's expensive though. I love the desert. It seems so foreign to anywhere I've been in Canada.

I've seen a bottle go down the hole, right BEFORE being checked by a conservation officer. you've got some great stories akaShag, I guess a gaff through the cheek is better than a gaff in the eye, that's bizarre
